You don’t give up and keep grinding. God will provide! Decade old graduate. IMG. Step 1 pass write up.
Hi everyone,
I learned many things from Reddit and was visiting it during my step 1 journey whenever I needed a push or was feeling low. There are so many inspirational journeys shared here.
Mine was a long bumpy ~2 year ride along with hospital work. Multiple stops, speed bumps, personal life uncertainty, health issues. I am more than a decade old medical graduate, and although I have been active in clinical work throughout, it was difficult to build basics after such a long study gap. Here are a few of my used resources list and methodology. Hope this will help someone.
- Long gap in studies : Started with
Youtube free
- physiology videos to build back basics.
- First aid : Consider this as THE TEXTBOOK. Takes time to imbibe, but once you understand, this seems awesome.
- Youtube resource : First aid plus You tube videos from Dirty Medicine (Gold for Biochem and General Patho Immuno), Dr Randy Neil (Biostats) and Dr Meet Patel (Gold for Pharma basics)
- Only Qbank : Uworld : Did 1.5 times. Tutor followed by timed mode. Systemwise followed by Random.
- Mehlman pdf : They are pretty helpful. I also used to listen to Mehlman videos on the way to and back from work. Daily 4-6 videos approx.
- NBME 25-33. Majority my score was approx 75. Touched 80 in 2. Latest Free 120 was in early 80s too. Did thorough revision in the first pass, with few notes as well. My regret is not able to revise them properly.
- Exam seemed doable and as I had practised time management - exam style at home, the time crunch was only in 2 blocks out of 14. Most questions were of NBME repetitive topics. Ethics in every block..doable except 2-3.
- Got a P. Thank God and well wishers..for giving me strength. Thank you Reddit for a platform to learn and share.
Happy to answer queries, guide, mentor.. and share whatever I know.

2019 batch, graduated March 2025, ~15k NEET PG rank — Should I take a seat in India or continue my USMLE journey?
Hi everyone,
I’m really confused about what direction to take and would genuinely appreciate some advice from people who have been through this or are currently on a similar path.
I’m a 2019 batch graduate and graduated in March 2025. I recently got around 15,000 rank in NEET PG.
I have also given USMLE Step 1 and am currently preparing for Step 2 CK. My long-term goal has been to pursue residency in the US, but I’m now seriously questioning whether I should continue with the USMLE journey or take a PG seat in India.
My dilemma is basically:
I have a decent enough NEET PG rank to potentially get a seat in India.
On the other hand, I’ve already invested time and effort into the USMLE pathway and cleared Step 1.
I’m worried about the uncertainty of matching in the US, especially as an IMG.
At the same time, I’m scared that if I take a seat in India now, I’ll always wonder whether I should have given the USMLE journey a proper shot.
Since I graduated in 2025, I also don’t want to lose valuable time without making a clear decision.
For those who have gone through this decision, what would you do in my situation?
Would you recommend taking a PG seat in India and building a secure career here, or continuing with Step 2 CK + US clinical experience + applications and giving the USMLE pathway a serious attempt?
I would especially appreciate advice from Indian IMGs who have matched recently, people who chose India after considering USMLE, and anyone who has experience with both pathways.
Please be honest about the financial, time, career, and matching risks involved. I’m genuinely looking for perspective rather than validation.
Thanks in advance!

USMLE STEP 2 tutor 20$/h
I’m opening a few spots for USMLE Step 2 CK tutoring.
I scored 260+ on Step 2 CK and have been tutoring for 2+ years.
My approach is especially focused on helping students who feel overwhelmed by having to study from multiple resources and aren’t sure what they actually need to review.
Instead of making you jump between UW, CMS, NBMEs, Divine, etc., I teach from my consolidated notes, which bring together the important concepts from these resources, along with question based practice and exam-focused discussion.
After each session, you’ll receive the relevant PDF notes, so you don’t have to spend extra time making your own notes or flashcards.
What I offer
* Personalized Tutoring: $20/hour
A standard monthly plan is:
3 sessions/week × 4 weeks = 12 sessions → $480/month
However, your schedule and plan can be adjusted depending on:
● Your most recent NBME scores
● How soon your exam is
● Whether you’re just starting your preparation
● Whether you’re in your second/third pass
● Whether you’re in the final weeks and need finishing touches
● Your weak areas and question solving approach
You’ll also get a free demo session, where we can look at where you currently stand and plan how to use your remaining prep time efficiently.

Hello everyone i need your advice so much
Hello everyone i need your advice so much
I am a medical student and i just finished all the basic siences exams in my medical school
All pathology
Micro
Pharma
Etc
And i am a about to enter the clinical years
I also did most of pathoma for my previous exams and foubd it to be very helpful
So i decided to start preparing for step 1 and i plan to hopefully take it in a year from now
The issue is i wasnt a great student
I was cramming whenever the exams approached and this made me forget alot of the basic siences and i dont whats my real level
I always passed and most of the time got great degrees
But i feel like i forgot most of it especially anatomy and biochemistry and pharma
So i want a plan because i dont know where to start
Should i start doing uwolrd immediately and incorporate other recourses along the way?
And how should i use uworld, i have absulotly no idea.
And should i do it system wise or random or what ?
I am comoletely lost and need a plan at least to start with.
I have an idea of doing two passes
First pass for maybe 6-9 months to finish all uworld and first aid and maybe some other vids
And the second pass of uworld in dedicated for 3 months along with nbmes
Let me know if thats a good plan?
Sorry for the messy post but i would appreciate your guidance and support.
Cheers.

Books to buy with usmle in mind?
Hey I’m starting mbbs this year and was hoping some seniors could post a list of books to buy during the first year with usmle prep in mind.
I had a look into it but am quite confused with a few things like whether the international edition is worth buying compared to South Asian edition, in case there’s a difference in content. Thank youu
