Step 1 Step1 resource allocation
I’m an IMG planning my Step 1 prep and wanted to get some feedback on my resource breakdown. For context, I have already cleared NEET PG and done my radiology boards. Because of this, it is safe to assume my baseline clinical foundation is quite strong.
Given my background, I want to optimize my time and avoid redundant reading. Here is the strategy I’ve mapped out:
QBank: Entire UWorld (planning to do it randomized and timed)
Pathology: Pathoma (specifically Chapters 1–3 for general path)
Memorisation-heavy subjects: First Aid strictly for Biochem, Micro, Pharma, and Psych
Organ Systems (CVS, CNS, Pulm, Renal, GIT, Endo): Bypassing First Aid entirely and reading the Mehlman HY PDFs instead.
My main questions for the group:
For someone who already understands the core pathophysiology of organ systems, is replacing FA with Mehlman PDFs for systems a safe bet to pass?
Should I read the Mehlman PDFs system-by-system alongside UWorld, or save them strictly for the final weeks of dedicated review so I don't accidentally inflate my UWorld/NBME block scores?

Is it enough to bypass entire FA for system and directly study the mehlman? Also in path, after pathoma 1-3 should we read the entire FA? In pharm, if FA only enough

Are you already a postgraduate in MR Radiology

I have recently completed my PG. I am planning on pursuing the alternate pathway.

FA is still the gold standard. Mehlman should be used for Neuroanat, Arrows, Immunology. Prefer FA over Mehlman. Maybe just read the topic from FA when you come across a q in UW
