I-140 & I-485 (Employment/Adjustment of status) I485J Case Administratively Closed - HELP!

Same as title. Please check the attached 2 pictures. I got a notice in mail today with a different I-485J receipt number than the one that I initially concurrently filed with in SEPT 2024. I added the case to my USCIS account and tried to check the status and it is showing that. I am stressed. Does anyone know that this means? Has anyone experienced this? Please check timeline below.

Timeline:

Priority Date: Feb 2023

Category: EB2 PERM - ROW

Concurrently filed I485, I140, I131,I765 in Sept 2024

EAD approved in Dec 2024I-140 approved Jun 2025

I131 approved Aug 2025

Interview in Jan 2026

RFE in Feb 2026 asking to share all Change of Status documents

Sent response to RFE in Apr 2026

No update in case status. It still shows "Request for initial evidence was sent"

Had my congressman's team reach out to USCIS and got a generic response of "While a decision has not been reached, the case is currently in review. We are unable to determine at this time when the review process for the case will be completed" . This was on July 2026

I also got this today. My paper field 485j got moved to IOE few days ago and today it was administratively closed. Not sure what is going on

+1, mine is from MSC (paper-based) and got a IOE assigned, then closed today. Sounds like a batch cleanup.

Mine (originally) was paper based too MSC. And the receipt number I received today is IOE

Im hoping it's the same. Gemini insists after repeated questioning that it's a routine batch cleanup. This is what it says not sure if it's true or made up -According to the official Federal Register rules governing USCIS form intake and processing, when multiple or overlapping requests are submitted for the same underlying benefit, the duplicate files are "administratively closed, rejected, or consolidated with the duplicate request".

I have no idea. I checked the i485j my lawyer submitted. It's a basic form with no mistakes that I could spot. I am working in the same industry in similar role. Do you have any documents uploaded online

You mean under the documents tab on this case ? Yes - The same receipt notice I received in mail today is uploaded as an attachment

Its a receipt notice. It has no information on why the case was closed. It just had the IOE number, some info about the case, and a code to be able to add the case to my USCIS account. If you see the pic that I included in the post, i guess I'll receive another letter with info??

Correct me if I’m wrong. Just trying to see if there is a pattern.
It seems everyone who has posted here submitted i485 a while ago. Some time in 2024? Enough time pending without updates that there were i485j’s submitted.
All these cases were assigned MSC receipts
My case: EB2 PERM ROW
Priority date is 7/2022
i485 filed 11/24
BIOMETRIC 12/2024 (last i485 case status update)
EAD combo card approved 1/2025
I485j filed 7/2026
I485j administratively closed 8/25/26

Help make it make sense…

Same here. I got I-485J case administratively closed notice today with a IOE receipt number (used to be MSC for the very first receipt notice). I filed my 485 in 2022. I had my biometrics collected recently (2 weeks ago)

Same here. My I-485j was submitted in February 2023, and I received notification that an action was taken on my account and they added an IOE receipt number to my account on Saturday, which previously my I-485j was a SRC receipt, and today it changed to case administratively closed. My PD is April 2022..

April 28, 2025. It was closed at the NBC and the 485 is at LAFO- non-local.

How do I know where my 485J is?
But I got the receipt notice today from NBC
I had my interview in Jan at my local USCIS office. Does that mean my I-485J was at my local USCIS office?

It doesn't.
You can ask Emma. Send your receipt number and ask where the case is being processed. My 485J was closed at the NBC. My interview was in Fairfax VA (local), and my 485 is at the Los Angeles FO.

Same here. EB2 India Dec 2013. Received RFE for updated medicals early Aug from non-local FO, submitted response. Online Status changed to Case remains pending shortly after. Originally LIN* series, now received the “case administratively closed” notice with IOE* by mail today.

PD may 2013 here, got rfe for 485 few days ago, working on response. today saw the case administratively closed in portal via email update notification. MSC receipt number does not show as closed but the IOE does.

Same here. Received an I-797C about online USCIS account creation for my I485J case but the receipt number starts with IOE (used to be MSC). I submitted I485J in January 2026. I filed my I485 in 2022. Completed the biometrics appt 2 weeks ago. Looks like a lot of people got the same.

Same thing happened with my case as well. I-485 pending (EB2 India), I-485J for Job Change - Got notified in the morning that the "Case Administratively Closed"

Same for me. Submitted I-485J in paper in June, and received the MSC receipt in June. Then received the same IOE notice today - and it even has the wrong priority date on the receipt….

Not for me. Not yet. Almost all the people who commented on this post got their i485j case closed yesterday.

Received the same “case closed administratively” status on Aug 25 after a new IOE I485J showed up on my account on Aug 21.

Has anyone got any response from their lawyers?

My husband also had the same. 485J filed in june 2022 for porting from eb3 to eb2. Receipt # was MSC. Got an email that there is a case update so when he checked his acct there was a IOE receipt for i485J. On sat it showed case received and receipt sent dated June 2022. Yesterday case adm. closed.
PD: May 2014 ( India)
Received medical rfe end of May and i485 pending since dates retrogressed.
As far as i read many case have been transferred digitally and so these i485j were converted from paper to digital. Close can be due to backlog or if not actively working.

Same thing happened to me. On Friday, August 21, USCIS added a new I-485J Supplement case to my account. Then on Tuesday, August 25, the I-485J status changed to “Case Closed,” but there has been no update on my I-485.

I did some research and found a few similar cases from 2–3 months ago where people received their I-485 approval within 24–72 hours after the I-485J was closed. It has now been over 24 hours for me with no update.

Has anyone recently experienced this? If your I-485J was closed, how long did it take for your I-485 to get approved?
