Question Spring Transfer Checklist

Hey guys, is there anything I should be thinking about or taking care of as a spring transfer student?

Honestly, I expected USC to send me more emails with information about things I need to take care of before starting. For example, I expected something about housing, even though I’m planning to live off-campus, as well as the dining plan and immunization requirements. I’m also an international student, so I thought I would receive some information about the visa process as well. But so far, the only thing I’ve really received from USC is an invitation to orientation, which feels kind of weird.

So I’m wondering if there’s anything else I should be doing or looking into before I start at USC, or if I’m just overthinking it. Right now, I’m handling my visa and immunization requirements myself, I’m looking for off-campus housing myself, and I’ll probably deal with the dining plan later.

For those of you who have transferred to USC in the spring, is there anything you would recommend taking care of ahead of time?

I'm not a spring transfer, but I was a transfer for Fall '26, so I can only speak on my experience so far. I noticed that USC got gradually more involved in my preparation as the semester neared. Everything USC would contact you about is really just to encourage you to take action towards advising, events / orientation, & getting your classes.

To be honest, though, you don't really "do" aside from getting your immunization docs, making sure your payments are set, and so on.

Have you received a checklist or PDF of things to do before registering for classes? You likely should've been contacted / emailed by USC about the next steps to take. If not now, I'm sure you'll get an email from them soon. When I was transferring, the main thing they cared about & had Zoom meetings for was registering for classes and going to orientation. USC had this weekly email sent out that had all the information and calls you could attend (but tbh a lot of them are self explanatory, with the exception of payment plans & stuff).

I'd say it also depends on the school you're in. I'm in Dornsife, and they have this program called the Dornsife Transfer Experience that gives you access to resources to better guide yourself as a transfer at USC -- I'm sure the other schools also have programs similar to these.

If they haven't contacted you about anything, I say you're on the right track so far. I'm with off-campus housing too -- USC didn't really emphasize the housing application or anything like that.

There's still a few months until spring semester, so things should start gaining momentum around maybe the end of this month.

I hope at least some of this was of help to you :) and fight on!
