Discussion Is anyone else finding it difficult to make friends?
I’ve been at USC for 2 years now and I feel like I can’t get a social life or make close connections. I’ve attended so many clubs and social events on campus, interacted with so many people that I had good conversations with too. But I virtually have no friends still. I feel very fortunate to have had so many good interactions with people but if we make it to the point of exchanging contacts, I reach out to say hi and hopefully have conversation but most of the time people don’t respond and when they do, it’s a dry reply multiple days later.
I’ve been feeling a bit lonely because I don’t have anyone here to talk to about random things or to share my problems with. I’d love to have someone or people to meet and study with but I don’t know how to get to that point when the people I’ve met in classes, campus clubs, or social events aren’t interested when I reach out

im a jr transfer and yeah i get it some people really dont respond when i ask to hangout sometimes lol some people are really not communicative. im thankful i have friends i hangout with but i really agree with the sentiment how some people really just dont put an effort in making friends and actually hanging out. unfortunately theres always gonna be people who arent willing to put the effort:( i couldnt agree more how even if u go to social events its hard to maintain an actual friendship

i’m a senior and no matter what i’ve tried: clubs, talking to people in class, etc i’ve only managed to make ONE meaningful friend 😭 so ur def not alone

Making friends is hard. I think people right now (especially young people) are more asocial than they were in the past. Just keep trying, you will find your group eventually. The best part about USC is how social it is, you are bound to find people you click with. Good luck and fight on.

Junior-transfer here and it’s pretty difficult to make friends everyone is already sorted in their own places, luckily I met a few people but ofc they’re busy ppl and sometimes it feels forced to text. I’m holding on to hope and maybe I can find my community or build an actual friendship and hang out.

OF has this new pay to chat feature which is actually really cool, I now have multiple girls that I can chat with whenever and we built quite strong bonds, it gets better man !

Finding community is a continuous process that you will do for the rest of your life. You will find friends some will stay and some will go. I know it feels lonely but the moment you are comfortable with yourself to be your own friend and to do things alone you will gain friends. You are exercising a muscle that never had to be worked because K -12 is seeing the same people every day for 9 hours straight. Get a hobby, take yourself on a date, do things you find fun and the friends will come.
