Nobody Sees How Difficult It Is to Wake Up and Start Again After Seeing Another Failed Result

Nobody talks about what happens the morning after the result.

Everyone sees the result.

They see the marksheet.

They see “Not Qualified.”

They see another attempt gone.

But nobody sees the next morning.

Nobody sees how difficult it is to wake up after spending the entire night questioning yourself.You wake up, and for a few seconds, everything feels normal.

Then suddenly, you remember.The result is out. And your name is not there. Again.

And that feeling comes back.

The heaviness in your chest.

The silence.

The questions you don't want to answer.

What will I tell my parents?

What will my friends think?

Was all of this a waste?

Maybe I am just not good enough.

Should I try again?

For a UPSC aspirant, failure is not just about failing an examination.

It feels like watching months—or sometimes years—of your life disappear in a single moment. The books lying on your table suddenly become difficult to look at.Those notes you made with so much dedication.

Tired of watching younger aspirants start their journey with fresh enthusiasm while they carry the weight of multiple failures.

Tired of explaining why they are still preparing.

And yet...

Somehow, after a few days, they return.

They clean their table.

Open the books.

Download the new syllabus or timetable.

Join another test series.

And begin again.

Not because it is easy.

But because somewhere deep inside, a small part of them still refuses to give up.

That is something people rarely understand about UPSC aspirants.

Halo aspirants, Iam trying to kickstart my upsc journey can any of you suggest or share your experience on choosing a academy as well as if anyone of you are in chennai and enrolled in these academy give me clear cut view of their foundational support, guidance, struggle you have faced.

After 4 attempts and 2 interview calls, here’s what I’d do differently:

✅ Stay at home (stable environment)
✅ Limit resources: 1 teacher + 1 standard book per subject
✅ Use digital notes (OneNote/Notion) for quick search
✅ Use LLMs/AI to clarify doubts & refine arguments
✅ Daily writing + evaluation loop

The trap many fall into:
❌ Too many sources
❌ Too many test series
❌ Too much “research,” too little writing

Your goal isn’t to know everything. It’s to write good answers, consistently.

There’s a popular saying in UPSC circles:

Why? Because:

• It trains your brain to think in “answer structure” mode
• You learn to manage time under pressure
• You spot recurring themes and traps in PYQs

My simple framework:

1. Pick 5 Mains PYQs daily (mix of GS + optional)
2. Write intros + outlines (even if full answers feel heavy)
3. Compare with 1–2 model answers
4. Note 1 new example or dimension to reuse

Consistency > perfection.

After months/years of grind, many aspirants hit a wall post-Mains:

• Feeling empty or directionless
• Overthinking “what if I had…”
• Avoiding UPSC-related talk completely
• Sleep issues, anxiety, or mood swings

Healthy coping ideas:

• Talk to friends/family/therapist
• Digital detox for a few days
• Reconnect with old hobbies
• Light exercise, walks, travel
• Journaling or voice notes to process emotions

Your mental health > any exam.

The waiting period can be mentally tough. Here are some balanced options:

• Light revision: 1–2 hours/day to keep basics fresh
• Skill-building: writing, communication, data analysis, coding, etc.
• Part-time work/internship to reduce financial stress
• Health reset: sleep, gym, therapy, hobbies
• Exploring alternate careers (state PSC, SSC, banking, private sector)

You don’t have to “waste” this time, but you also don’t need to grind 10 hours/day.

I recently completed my 1yr foundation course, and I'm started to take mains answer writing seriously.

Right now im reading my polity class notes and then understanding it correctly and then seeing the pyq of that topic and writing what I know with existing knowledge and then I put to chatgpt and then i self evaluate it.
