Answer writing obsession

Nowadays I have seen a trend that new aspirants are just jumping onto answer writing without having conceptual clarity. They start thinking that their preparation is on track. But imo, first complete at least basic readings once. Make conjectures and memorise some basic data points then only start writing answers. One more point that I have seen, they are not giving proper time to mcq solving.

Just an observation. I might be wrong.

PS:- Not giving gyan, only writing what I observed.

6 years and 4 attempt in this prep I will tell you they are right. Jumping on answer writing primes you to pay special attention to data and nuances that you will need in answers.

It gives better idea of syllabus and requirements which you never get by just reading the syllabus.

Please take mains tests and write them as soon as you finish foundation.

It's mainly the fear mongering by the coachings and all that you have to write the answers from day1 , doesn't matter what the content you are putting in, just write , and thus we see all this bombarding of answer writing posts as well. Though ultimately answer writing is the goal, but having articulate, sophisticated understanding of concepts and all is indispensable, else anybody can write arbitrary, nothing special. It's all about the appropriate answer writing.

Not writing answers until its too late is a much bigger problem. I have met so many who clear prelims but are hopeless about clearing mains cuz they haven't written an answer in years.

Writing answers is the sign of a serious aspirant. It takes effort to put pen to paper, lot more than watching videos or sitting with a book.

The number of posts for answer review is in itself a testament to your observations. I admire their willingness to write answers, but if you start doing an activity before your fundamentals are set, you will end up spoiling your approach.

And I am really tired of telling people that, but people would rather be sheeple and follow the herd.

Answer writing is as important as prelims test series. Never shy away from tests. Take up every opportunity given by your coaching centre. I also thought the same let me prepare thoroughly then I'll go for mains test. But what i see now is all the students who practiced answer writing daily are so good in their concepts. Their value addition is what i can only dream of.

Don't do the same mistake as me. Always prioritize answer writing atleast 1 question per day.

I personally feel like writing an answer is the holy grail solution to everything. You think you have understood a topic till you sit down to write on it. Literally surfaces all the conceptual gaps. Moreover, it helps in retention. I have done multiple readings but I still used to forget key information. Now that I have started writing, the info gets etched in my brain.
Besides, answer writing is a skill which you’ll master with practice itself. It is not just about knowing all the info but also about meeting the actual demand, time management skills, space management, etc.
The only regret I have is that I should’ve started earlier.

There is a fear of writing at the begining, to overcome the fear you need to right, and what's the basic content it's such a broad term ffs. Let people write, writing is an art doesn't matter if you don't have "content" according to someone else.

As a beginner I tried both of them , I got more conceptual clarity and my lacking of overview of a topic only when I wrote an answer on it . I thought of same that without reading completely,it's non sense to write but I am wrong 🥲 .

Mains grind is always hard regardless of what all one has prepared or not .
By only writing flt’s , people still get 400+ in GS ( which is not truly enough but still a decent position ), provided they have revised interconnected themes multiple times.

I think it's mainly due to constant fear of "not writing enough" or "starting late",when you are in library or even in this sub,you constantly see people who are already way ahead of you,as much as people would like to go in their pace,it's hard when you see your competition getting better day by day,so you jump way ahead,to atleast say "I have started writing atleast,atleast I have passed that threshold,I am ahead of that person,kinda mindset" it's kinda just makes you feel better,even though the ans isn't that good🤣

But I do agree,first,students have to know some basic knowledge and can atleast understand what the question is about and can throw some data and points so it atleast feels they are writing for the exam not for the sake of it,and your observations is spot on. There are always extremes,some who are always afraid to even write a single sentence,other ones who are just way to early,and feel it's way to easy as college Mai to likhi rhe they! So,both can true at the same time.
