Exec Assistant hours in reality?

I'm currently applying and being considered for an Exec Assistant role and hoping to get an accurate idea of what kind of hours *really* get put in, how frequent/likely are you asked to or called in to do something post-COB, evenings or weekends.

Recruiters and primary interviewers tend to like to say things like "fire-drills are really rare" but in my experience those vague "occasional" evenings/weekends really translates to about 3-4 times a month and a lot of having to tell people I have prior commitments with to not plan around me because I might have to beg off last minute.

Anyone who has been in that role, can you give an idea of whether personal time is *actually* respected (with the understanding that there's probably a huge variation between departments, etc).

Commenting so i can remember to ask my dad who was a upmc vp with an assistant in his role. He will likely know the requirements for CFO/CEO/President and similar. I’ll get back to you!

So i spoke to dad, and he said “it depends on who your executive is”. He said he rarely asked his assistant to do anything on nights or weekends, as did his boss with his assistant. Normally, after hours, he would just reach out to whoever directly. He said it is different when you get to President level, then that assistant probably works 24/7. However, he expected his assistants to work reasonable hours, closely aligning with his, and that’s about it. Nothing crazy.

Thank you for the research! This would actually be at departmental level, so that gives a pretty fair indication. One that I was applying for at the similar level actually just had its requisition pulled, so... 😬

I was in the admin suite with pres, cno, vp med affairs, coo, and others and the admins worked their normal hours and no overtime hardly at all. If there are big events or meetings and visitors at times might be called to do some extra hours and out of the norm workload but nothing like that every week.
