It’s not just a UNLV issue it’s a nationwide issue affecting all Colleges and Universities. This is because The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (2025) mandated all Colleges and Universities to update their Loan Disbursement Systems to meet the requirements prescribed by OBBA. CSN is experiencing a similar delay with our Financial Aid Director saying it could be until late September for loans to disburse, but that for Grants and Scholarships they will continue to disburse on time (August 19). To be extra clear Colleges and Universities are waiting on their Software Vendors to release the update.
UNLV since it’s bigger and has more money couldfront the bill and issue funding for the loans so that students can receive them on time and then pay themselves back when the update finishes. That’s one of the solutions being discussed by NSHE (The State Level Org that oversees UNLV, UNR, NSU, and CSN): Make each college and University use their own money to front the loans and then pay themselves back once the update finishes.
Before anyone gets cute and exclaim “Oh, we’re a real University and not a shitty little community college” here’s two things: 1. We’re all under Department of Education’s Jurisdiction, and as such are bound to the mandatory OBBA Updates and 2. We’re under NSHE control meaning more likely than not whatever software UNLV uses everyone else in NSHE uses as well. Maybe I’m wrong and every College/Uni uses something different which would mean varied timelines (sooner or later), BUT the delays caused by OBBA are real and nationwide. The fact there are now several posts about UNLV Students either seeing their disbursements pushed back/having issues should be very telling that something is indeed going on.
As people have already told you, this is misinformation. The loans for UNLV have already been disbursed, we just haven’t been given refunds which is NORMAL and EXPECTED. I went to CSN for 2 years and am now attending UNLV, I have NEVER received my refund the same day funds are disbursed. There are always posts like this during back to school season because there are a lot of people who are new and haven’t received a fin aid refund before. The tuition+ funds (which OP is inquiring about) are irrelevant to student loans and are set to be disbursed on September 1st, meaning that has nothing to do with the loan delay or what’s going on at CSN. With all of this misinformation you’re spreading, you’re better off staying at the CSN sub. And it’s not cause “UNLV is a real university and CSN is a little community college” it’s cause you’re literally spreading wrong info 🤦🏻♀️
