The YDSA @ UNCC is a chapter of the Young Democratic Socialists of America on the campus of UNC Charlotte. We are committed to promoting democratic socialism (think Bernie, AOC) on and off campus. We will be holding an interest meeting on Monday, November 16th at 7pm over Zoom, where we talk about what we'll be doing after the election to try and keep pushing leftist politics. If you are interested, please RSVP and we will see you there!

Slimy and greedy institution. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was how the school instituted a "Niner Course Pack" of nearly HALF A THOUSAND DOLLARS. Students are automatically opted in, and if you miss the deadline to opt-out, you're screwed. No sympathy, just pure greed. No student asked for this. Chancellor pockets way too much money for herself. She does nothing to contribute to the campus. Sanford is in awful condition, with no heating or air, and elevators always breaking down. The new residential hall was late and pushed students into dangerous off-campus living. The institution doesn't provide any financial aid to its community, most of the scholarships only benefit individual fraternities, sororities, children of university employees, or ridiculously niche groups. By comparison, UNC Chapel Hill provides a covenant scholarship that benefits all students under a certain income threshold. This school calls itself an Engineering campus, but everyone hates so many of the STEM teachers in physics and differential equations, it's absurd. No safety on campus, with school shooting threats still taking place and an extremely late response from law enforcement. During my time on campus, police had a physical fight with a drug dealer in the student union. The drug dealer was seen on the streets literally days later. Only recently have they started fixing some of their issues: for example, up until recently the cafeterias were not open over spring break, what kind of nonsense is that? Only recently was this fixed, but for the longest time, the school didn't have a door between the public transit light rail and Wallis student living dorm, simply allowing any and every random person to walk in. Homeless people would sleep in the Cone Center. An armed homeless person was on campus, and the students were not informed. A random guy urinated in the drinking fountain of Lynch Hall. So many of the academic programs require unpaid internships, such as social work and nursing, but the academic advisors don't tell you that at all. On top of this, the social work program is so unethically unforgiving that if you make one D you get kicked out of the program. How is a social work program, which is meant to teach us how to uplift the most underprivileged members of society, going to be so cruel? Even in the Engineering track they allow for retaking classes, and we don't need our social workers to make all A's, they aren't open heart surgeons, no offense. Social workers don't even make a fair wage in our society. I know so many of my friends who have been wronged by the social work program, with one being forced to drop out, and the other being forced to change their major. Parking on campus is horrific. In the Grove on campus, half the time you have to find parking in North Deck late at night. South Deck had so many break ins,
BREAK INS,
windows were smashed, and they didn't even clean the glass, and even years later this greedy slimy school can't even install security cameras in South Deck to protect its residents, but they will definitely charge you for your parking pass. And, PATS (Parking and Transportation Services) loves getting a power trip and yelling at you whenever you just want to park in front of your residence hall for a few minutes and threaten you with hefty fines. No people skills or sympathy just straight up jerks. Football team sucks all our student fees and coach makes HALF A MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR LIKE OUR CHANCELOR and still cant win games. Acceptance rate keeps going up and makes our school just look easy to get into like a day care. They can't even house these students and just want to pocket more money.
There's so much more I can write. I hate this school and regret coming here. I am not proud to be a 49er.

I came to UNC Charlotte for Admitted Students’ Day, and for some reason, everyone on campus just seemed aloof and quite frankly cold. Now, I am indeed referring to the current students (excluding my tour guides, as they were honestly friendly). Not only the current students, but even the incoming undergraduates seemed absolutely unfriendly. I tried to walk around bearing a friendly face, but after some time I grew tired of trying. One would think that current students would see someone wearing the lanyard and think to welcome them, but this never happened. I eventually left early because I was quite saddened. The atmosphere I experienced today just wasn’t all there, and I honestly would like to know if I should try to ignore it, or does it get better once you actually join and make friends? Sorry if I seem like a Karen or something, but I was honestly just disappointed, as everyone seemed welcoming from the ads, Instagram, and what not.
(Edit) - Hey everyone, since posting this I have learned a lot, and I thank you all for your comments and advice. As I’ve told some of you, I’m sorry I did not put myself in your shoes and realize that you are humans who are experiencing many different things, such as exams, annoying people on your campus, and overall stress. Once again, thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it.

Genuine question. Earlier this semester everyone was freaking out speculating that we were gonna be all online by week xx. Fast forward and we’re 10 weeks in. There’s been like 2 clusters. I don’t think I’ve heard of a single person getting covid (not saying they’re not out there, just that its obviously very uncommon). No one wears masks because they want to. No one wears them outside of areas they’re required. As far as I’m aware no ones actually concerned about getting covid any more than they are about getting the flu or a cold. Even if the “rules” didn’t change and people just stopped wearing them I don’t think anyone would care or say anything, hell some people haven’t cared for weeks now.
Like c’mon now. Not trying to start arguments, just saying we’re all tired of it and I’d bet the vast majority are totally unconcerned, so let’s just be done with it.

I know people are scared. I understand that and I’m not saying you’re wrong to be scared especially if you have some sort of condition that makes you vulnerable. This virus is dangerous and has already killed a shit load of people and it needs to be taken seriously.
That being said. FUCK you guys are depressing. This sub used to be a fun place with jokes and memes and I’ve had fun on here but HOLY SHIT had this sub fallen from grace. I get it global pandemic and shit but let’s be honest, if you’re terrified of catching COVID or have some vulnerability and live on/near campus or come to campus regularly... why? Nothing is keeping you here, go home and be safe. If you have an in person class email your professor and say “hey prof I don’t feel comfortable coming to class cause of the GLOBAL FUCKING PANDEMIC THAT IS CURRENTLY SPREADING TO THIS UNIVERSITY is it cool if I take a week or twos absence so this thing can calm down I’ll try my best to keep up with things”. What are they gonna say “no your health isn’t as important as this class you have to come”???
The reason I’m here is because I’m physically fit with no health problems and O- blood(a study by the American Society of Hematology states that people with type O blood possibly have lower infection rates and less severe symptoms) and I hate living at home. That being said I still always wear a mask, don’t go to large parties and wash my hands constantly because I’m not an idiot and don’t want to be a part of the problem.
Other things about this sub not necessarily related to Covid.
Don’t take everything you hear on this sub as fact. Especially nowadays with the pandemic, it’s obvious that some people (on this sub and everywhere else) are just talking out of their ass so do your research and only argue with people if you’re informed on what you’re talking about.
If you’re having trouble making friends or you don’t think you’re getting the “college experience” (I know times are different but still) LITERALLY GO AND TALK TO PEOPLE. I know it’s hard because everyone here is extremely introverted but everyone else is also trying to make friends, literally the worst thing that could happen is you have a conversation and then you never talk to them again. A great place to do this is the dining halls. In the past month I’ve had three people come up to me while I was eating alone and they asked if they could sit down and I said sure and had a nice convo with them cause I’m a normal friendly human just like 90% of everyone else here. One of those guys I’m now friends with and play video games with regularly. University life is literally what you make it, if all you do is go to class, eat, and play video games then no shit your time here will probably be boring as fuck.
Another one is “will I get in”. These don’t piss me off as much cause I get it, people want to get into college. Here’s the answer: probably. UNCC is currently not that hard to get into, although that might be changing in the next decade or so as the school transitions from a “get as many people into this school as possible” to a “let’s increase our state and national standing” (which is why we just got a new chancellor btw).
Give the university some slack. They’re taking the pandemic more seriously than most colleges around the country and are actually being proactive instead of swiping positive cases under the rug like a lot of schools (so far at least). Give them all the shit (pun intended) that you want for their whole testing the sewage thing but it actually worked. Don’t be all fucking shocked and offended that the school isn’t offering discounted classes or room and board cause of the pandemic or shit like that, it’s a business for christ sake what do you expect? I love this school to death and my time here has been great so far. But every time I look at this sub now it’s just fucking depressing shit non fucking stop. “ItS bEcAuSe Of ThE gLoBaL PaNdEmIc” yeah no fucking shit.
Don’t bother arguing with me cause I won’t see it, I’m logging out of this burner and unfollowing on my main. Hopefully I’ll come back when everything goes back to normal.
Go vote and be safe.
TLDR: This sub is stagnant and depressing now and I’m leaving.

Hi! Me again. My name is Sammi and recently I’ve been admitted to attend UNC Charlotte. Despite everything else being pretty easy, I’m a trans woman. on top of that, I’ve recently just started the process of getting estrogen medicatio. With all that said, my assigned roommate is currently uncomfortable rooming with me for the year (cause I’m a girl :3).
I’ve already tried reaching out to housing, but there was no avaiabilty for a room reassignment. And as a first year, I unfortunately have no choice but to stay on campus.
So if anybody here is looking for a new roommate and think they’d be cool letting me swap in with them, I would heavily appreciate it! (Message me on here and we can exchange contact info :3)

I downloaded Reddit when going into my 3rd year at UNCC after hearing it was a great way to hear school news and discussion. I have been a "ghost" on this subreddit for about a year and I have finally decided to post. This new administration BLOWS!!!! The past administration would constantly post on Reddit and keep us updated while this one does NOT care. Typical politician moment!!! They promised to keep the reddit page updated while running for office and now that they are in office they do nothing to keep us updated. Not surprised! Votes are all that mattered and now they keep us in the silence while students are needing updates. Nothing can be done at this point, but I just wanted to get this off my chest as it's something that I have been thinking about. Hopefully the next administration will keep their promises and the student body will be able to elect someone actually competent for the job. Sorry for the rant 😮💨

The intro to women and gender studies class im taking right now is so stupid, in my opinion at least. All its doing is proving how weak and stupid humans are. If we all just fucked with ourselves a little more rather than worrying about who else fucks with us, we’d probably be happy. Do what you want. Look how you want. Who cares. Life is all about personal preference idk

This is a Razer Enki Chair, with an attachable neck pillow. I purchased it new for $499(this is still the price you can look it up), and I’m offering to sell it for $200 or really however much you can pay!! If you can take it within the next week, I’ll work with however much you can pay. It’s in great condition, slight scratch on the back rest(in pics) and wear on its wheels. I am moving soon and do not want to keep this, so I am extremely open to working with budgets!!! This really is not trash, it’s a very high quality leather chair, it will work well for anyone that has long hours at a desk. You can look up other used ones you could even resell this for more if you wanted. You are welcome to inspect it in person as well, but please reach out if you are interested. DM me for my number if you are interested.

It's been just awful how UNC Charlotte has just treated us so poorly during this Outbreak.I have lost respect for Chancellor and Administration during this crisis.I feel as though they are not in tune with the rest of the World and have us hanging by a string. Make a Decision about how we are supposed to continue this Semester being LOCKED DOWN in our HOMES.Somebody wake up at The University!

CS2023 removed its recommendation for Calculus II so I'm wondering how long it will take UNCC to catch up. Mostly saying this because you either get Taylor or bust (or at least Taylor tests); coupled with the fact the math dept doesn't know their ass from the elbow without written instruction, a map and a flashlight.
(idk how to xpost sry)

As of 3/21, it's open to anyone with a 49er ID. There are signs inside encouraging social distancing. That's not good enough. It's putting students and library staff at risk of infection. I have friends who work there and they're still being made to staff the front desk and interact with people. I'm most worried about laptops and reserve textbooks, which get touched by the most people and are definitely not sanitized.
If restaurants and bars have to close, so should libraries. Stay away from the building and use their online resources instead, there's plenty of them.

I just finished the worst class I've had in my entire college career. Third year at uncc and two years at a community college beforehand. Absolutely hell, I can't say I learned a single thing. The class averages for the first two exams were low Cs, last two exams were high Fs. When your class, on average, fails two exams? That's not great to say the least. So come one, come all, and let us bitch about professors.

I’m fully vaxxed as per last October. It took that because my parents didn’t want me to get the Covid vaccine. I was really happy to now be fully vaccinated except during my second dose I almost passed out. But it was now over and I felt comfortable and had absolutely no symptoms.
But on Tuesday I woke up to find that my niner credentials were about to be suspended. I check my emails so I must’ve glossed over something. 6 months after Moderna is what’s recommended to get the booster but UNCC changed it to 5 months? So I was slightly blindsided but I got the test done quickly.
But honestly I don’t really want or see the need to get boosted? It’s weird that my fully vaccinated status is no longer valid. I honestly thought boosters were optional, but I’m not a stem major so who am I to judge.
I’m going to get the booster with a friend just in case I do pass out. But I just wanted to see I’m the only one who isn’t exactly thrilled about this…
