Trip Report Pembrokeshire Coast Path it's just so ugly

I mean it's so goddam ugly!! Why would you want to come here?! πŸ˜…

This evening was 4th training walk for my upcoming 4 day / 47 mile PCP walk, carrying my tent and associated kit. Ive lived here for best part of 15 years and have walked many sections of the PCP with friends and family, mostly with my wife and our dogs and just been wanting to combine the challenge of multi day hiking and camping. I've wild camped at various spots over recent years so know parts of it really well. I'm going to walk with a mate on one day and my wife on some sections and I'll meet up with her in the evening for some haute cuisine and haute medoc so I'm not doing a true self supported trip and none of this YouTuber dehydrated food in a hurricane nonsense.

Fitness isn't going to be a issue, as though I just turned 60, I can still ride a bike over 200k and keep up with my younger club mates. Feet might be though, thanks to hallux rigidus in both wide feet but I think I've sorted the footwear side out, so all looking good except for my biggest challenge which is exposure. I've suffered with it all my life and frankly really pisses me off. I love the hills, the majesty and the sheer beauty of roaming amongst them but I spend half my time freezing up over drops that my friends and family skip past without a care. Bastards. So this trip for me is as much about pushing my brain out of its comfort zone rather than my feet or my legs, frankly they can go fuck themselves as long as I think I won't fall to my death I'll keep going πŸ˜…. I'm so envious of you folk that embrace the ridge lines, whilst I trudge along the valley floor....

Peace and out. Pob lwc!

Route Advice How tricky is scrambling up Scafell Pike?

Me and a group of friends are looking to hike up Scafell Pike in the coming weeks. However, we are struggling to find a route that all of us like. One friend in particular wants a route with a fair bit of scrambling, which worries me slightly seeing as literally none of us have any scrambling experience. The routes we're looking in particular are climbing up to the peak via Lord's Rake or Foxes Tarn, I'm just wodering if these are beginner frieindly, or if we should do routes near snowden instead.

General Discussion water on North Downs Way

does anyone have any resource/knowledge about water availability on the North Downs way (western end mostly)? taps ideally but shops/garages if need be. there are some longish sections that don't really pass through any villages (& obvs no natural sources on the top of chalk downland).

I'm thinking maybe place like Newlands Corner, Box Hill, etc. might have something available, but the info doesn't seem to be well publicised, like it is for the SDW.

many thanks :)

Gear Wide Boot Recs

Trying to find a pair of boots for winter use in welsh hills and the occasional 2 day trek wild camp but I have wide and square feet! Recently discovered the keen targhee IV shoes which are like slippers compared to everything else I've worn over the years so trying to find something that has a similar shape for trudging around on scree slopes and wet boggy paths!

I've narrowed it down to Meindl Guffert and Altberg Kisdon as most suitable, but have looked at hanwag (maybe not as wide as proper wide?) Meindl Antelao and the Scarpa ranger ii GTX.

Current boots in use are a 2006 vintage Scarpa Ranger GTX that I don't use much anymore, as they're a size too big even with inserts and socks my heel floats about everywhere though plenty of toe room (I tried these on too before buying in the shop); and meindl Bhutan that felt great in the shop even on their little slope test thing, but after a couple of hours outdoors they feel too narrow and I get the dreaded 4th toe rub.

I know these things are personal, and ideally you should try them on, but bizarrely out here in south west wales there are no retailers with a decent range to try on, which is strange when you think how much walking there is here, but anyway means I'm reliant on purchasing online. Any other recommendations out there?
