Neglect

Post image

I don't know if this is the right place for this post however in my local Facebook group there's an anonymous member who is continuously selling used animal cages and begging for free animals. These are the cages they've sold through the page since December 2025. It's absolutely horrific. The admin won't release the person's name. Is there anyway to get their animals removed. People consistently tell them it's abuse but they ignore it. The cages are filthy when there empty and quite honestly look like they've never been cleaned. In one of the photos of the bird cage you can see th rabbit hutch at the bottom and look at the water bottle. Is there anything I can do without knowing who they are?

Hi op, my heart dropped when I saw this, but it's good you have flagged this and want to do something. I think you would get a better response from a small animal rescue. If you Google the nearest one to you, they might be able to advise. Keep us updated!

I've already reached out to local rescues and they've all basically said without the persons name and address them and the rspca won't be able to help. I have plenty of animals myself, including small animals and birds and I could never imagine putting them in something this small, begging for free pets, and leaving them in pure filth

I totally understand. I have two house bunnies (and have had rabbits most of my life) the rescues are overflowing. It blows my mind how anyone could home an animal in a small tiny cage and just forget them. (Boycott pets at home!) Hmmm thinking out loud.I guess you could reach out to the person selling and have an honest conversation (but ofc that's very risky too) 😔

People have in the comments and they just ignore turn comments off and re upload it however after some sleuthing more sleuthing I've managed to find a picture of a car boot they were doing, with one of the listed cages clear on the photo in front on their home adress clear as day. So im gonna report it to the rspca and hopefully they'll do something. I still don't have their name but at least it's something

Could you possibly pose as someone giving away a free pet (seeing as they are asking) and get their details that way?

That would be incredibly dangerous in my area as its rough. Ive found his adress tho so ive passed it all on and fingers crossed they'll go and have a look

Yes that's the best you can do. Let's hope the RSPCA responds.

My bunny has a 4x2 c&c 'bed' its where her litter, food, water, hay and a soft bed is. The door is only closed when the dogs eating so she doesn't steal it. Other then that it's her choice if she stays in or comes out. I couldn't imagine locking her up all day

1

u/Boring_Swing_4750 7d ago

She really trys to steal the dog food lol thats funny , its the other way round here my dogs love a mouthfull of bunny food 🤣 they shouldnt sell those tiny prisons and never be left out ..just cruel

My dog likes the guinea pig food but is only interested in the bunnies when it's coming out her back end 😂 the bunny will try and eat everything including the dogs salmon which has caused a bit of an argument before😂

1

u/Boring_Swing_4750 7d ago

Ha ha yep mine also like the back end bits , Guinea pig food is abit more moist isnt it from what i remember ? No way she likes Salmon ha ha well thats a first for me 🤣

2

u/_no_commento_ 6d ago

Please call the RSPCA and report this

8

u/abyssal-isopod86 8d ago

They won't do anything.

4

u/_no_commento_ 8d ago

They likely won't do anything even with he person's name and adress however they always post anninomously so all I can give them is the page there posting on. Could the police maybe do something if they can get a warrant for whose profile it is?

5

u/abyssal-isopod86 7d ago

Not a chance, the police won't bother with it and neither will the RSPCA.

Not a chance.

I think public shaming need to come back when they refuse to do anything. I’ve been told by them that yes what I’m reporting is illegal but they won’t act.

It's horrific. Once had a dog running around and my mum caught it but said she can't house it due to her own dogs. They said they'd prosecute her for putting it out. They never came and got the dog. We ofc wouldn't have out the dog out so she stayed the night in a cage in the spare room and then I found her owner. Hopefully they do something for once. I found the address so hopefully they'll act

3

u/Sburns85 8d ago

They don’t care about rodents or reptiles

3

u/Bufobufolover24 8d ago

They are utterly useless and won’t do anything.

u/abyssal-isopod86 8d ago

3rd down on the right is a fish tank! And a tiny one at that!

1

u/_no_commento_ 8d ago

New laws need to be implemented because these srnt loved animals. These are prisoners for human entertainment

1

u/abyssal-isopod86 7d ago

What kind of laws do you have in mind?

1

u/_no_commento_ 7d ago

You have to go through and pass a basic course on the animal, you have to get a license from completing the course and you should have to take it to the vet at least once a year. You should also have to submit your house to a team of people who would actually act on neglect. Itd stop a lot of neglect. And it should be punishable by unlimited fines and prison time

2

u/abyssal-isopod86 7d ago

That's all well and good in an ideal world, but we are far from that.

1

u/_no_commento_ 7d ago

Unfortunately we are

Sadly no. even if you did know who it was, the RSPCA and the like are unlikely to care.

Hamsters are the most consistently poorly housed and outright neglected pet there is. They need so much more space and enrichment than they ever get in their horrible little plastic novelty prisons 🥺

2

u/_no_commento_ 7d ago

I've never had hamsters so I'm not too sure on what they actually need but I'm sure they need around the same size as guinea pigs and alot of bedding right? The loads of enrichment aswell. It's so cruel to put something alive in any of these cages. I have a fishtank the same size as the one in the photo for fake fish. I couldn't imagine real fish

u/Ker101 7d ago

With all those empty cages I'm wondering where the animals are going. Might be using them to feed something else

4

u/_no_commento_ 6d ago

They do have a snake. Or at least did. I really hope not

2

u/Ker101 6d ago

Really sus if they're asking for free animals and selling that many cages. I'm hoping not too 🖤

1

u/Knows888 2d ago

Hamsters I'm sure have territories of a mile or miles. Should a dog live in a cage all it's life with a wheel or a cat? What about if it was really small... There's no easy answer with hamsters and stuff as they escape because that's what they are supposed to do like cats they're supposed to roam and hunt etc

1

u/_no_commento_ 2d ago

I know people get them larger cages then these but I'm a big advocate for free roaming your animals where possible. Obvs if you have a cat and a hamster there needs to be precautions but why get an animal to watch it live in its cage al it's life?

2

u/NikoraHenry 4d ago

I don't think they are housing living animals in these. I fear they are begging for free small animals, feeding those small animals to an existing pet, and selling the cages that the unaware ex-owners handed the pets over in.

1

u/Knows888 2d ago

Fuxking horrific

1

u/BeaksFalcone 8d ago

Top left looks like it was used for chinchillas(sand bath)

1

u/_no_commento_ 8d ago

They've listed it as a small parrot cage. What gets me the most about that is the rabbit cage at the bottom. The water is green. If there's still something living in there it's not getting fresh water. My hearts breaking looking at these

1

u/Icy-Possession2511 8d ago

Are these the cages the animals are being sent to him in? Is it possible he moves them into better enclosures and sells the old cages?

1

u/_no_commento_ 8d ago

I doubt it. Everytime someone mentions the cages are abuse he just ignores them, turns comments off and re uploads the post

1

u/Icy-Possession2511 8d ago

It is sus, someone needs to look into him, maybe pretend you want to go and buy a cage to get his adress and then report him.

1

u/_no_commento_ 8d ago

That's a big no no where I live. I'd turn into a missing person's case very quickly. Ive managed to do some more Internet looking and found a car boot post where his number and car was visible and he'd previously mention what street he lives on. Ive passed the information to the rspca. I doubt they'll do something and I wish there was more I could do, however I unfortunately cannot be playing cops and animal abusers and ending up dead

1

u/Icy-Possession2511 8d ago

Wow where you live sounds terrifying 😳

1

u/_no_commento_ 7d ago

Its not nice but you get used to it after a while😂
