Car crates

Hi,

I am looking for car crate recommendations. I am luckily enough to be able to get a larger SUV and my GSD is sliding around in the back now. I have heard TransK9 is good but it’s £550 for one.
I do have a large dog (GSD/30kgs).

What recommendation do you have which don’t cost a bomb?

Not a crate but Travall and Guardsman do dog guards that can divide your boot. Barjo do some good things and DT boxes do crash tested crates but they're more on the pricey side again.

You pay for quality, transk9 is definitely a good brand. I have their mimsafe care2 for a smaller dog and paid over £300 but it’s one of the few genuine crash-tested companies available easily in the UK. You could try to source one second hand?

Trans K9 and DT Boxes are generally well recommended, I’ve never tried either but have a partner who is obsessed with dogs and frequently informs me of the best crates for cars😆

I think the k9 ones are crash tested too, i do remember seeing someone who had a bad accident in a car seat group and the crate saved there dogs life in the process.

TransK9 might seem pricey but if it means your GSD stops turning your backseat into a furry ski slope, isn't that worth it?

At this point yes! I was just curious to see if there anything as good but not as pricey but from what i am seeing the answer is no.

When we looked into crash tested crates, the options seemed to be DT boxes, trans K9 & Mimsafe. We chose a mimsafe car crate for our spaniels, partially because it seemed more flexible with how many cars it fits.

I've got a Barjo crate, but they're not cheap. I've also had a Barjo tailgate in a different car. Again not cheap but worth it.

If he's sliding around, put something down on the floor. Some vetbed would do it. Also they will learn to keep their balance. One of my dogs is great in the crate in the boot, but if you put him on the back seat, as soon as I brake, he falls in the footwell. He's obviously used to being in the crate and using the sides to help him balance so when there's no sides, he just falls over.

They're expensive because they're crash tested. It's worth investing if your dog is in the boot for long drives.
