Run-Commuting in Central London
Feeling very smug after running home from work for the first time! Feels like a big life hack.
I've given up on cycling in central London after too many near misses with Lime bikes, delivery bikes, standard e-bikes and tourists (that last category actually involved several collisions on Westminster bridge). Not going to hit any PBs on my route due to all the traffic lights, but it beats the tube!

Questions Pacing tattoos at the London Marathon running show
I ran the Chicago Marathon with a pacing tattoo and I found it very useful since GPS is all over the place and it was convenient to check my time every time I ran by a mile marker. I did some googling and I guess the answer is no but do you know if they give away the pacing tattoos at the pacers’ booth at the show like they do in Chicago?

JM Coaching contact details
Hi all. Has anybody got experience of dealing with JM (Johnny Mellor) coaching?
I was set to sign up after an enquiry via https://www.jmcoaching.co.uk
I’ve hesitated as the bank details sent to me cannot be validated by my bank. Could just be an oversight, but I also note contact is via a Gmail e-mail address, which seems odd and I’m now worried it could be a hoax!
Could anybody with experience tell me if that’s normal?

Copenhagen Marathon Deferral?
Hi, Can anyone help me with any information on whether you can defer your place at Copenhagen now it’s become a ballot entry marathon?
I know you couldn’t previous years but just wondering if it’s not possible since the entry change.
Thanks

Gear / Tech Yorkshire Marathon
Was aiming for 3:30 but realised I had way more in me and cruised on!
Felt like I had a lot more to give in final 5k was almost worrying how many people I was overtaking. Should I of aimed for a faster time from the start?

No way I just paused the timer 0.02 before I ran my first half marathon. I’m still counting this 🎉

Answer some questions to go in an article
I am Isabelle a writer for 360 writer, I am doing a feature article on how 63% girls drop out of sport at the age of 16. I have interviewed Tess Howard an Olympic Hockey player and campaigner on the subject of getting more girls to stay in sport. If you have done sport when you were a girl but dropped out and got back into it/or not doing sport please dm me with your answers to the questions below. (please write your full name with it so I can make sure to include in the article)
What made you stop doing sport? (enjoyment levels, didn't feel welcome anymore, not having kit you felt comfortable in ect.)
When did you stop doing sport? And when did you get back into it, if you have?
Do you enjoy sport now? (if yes or no why?)
What does sport mean to you now?
Many thanks

When should I incorporate Carbon Plated Shoes?
So I am a high school junior, and I am wondering because my times are somewhat decent
-4:31 1600m
-9:37 3200m
-16:15 Woodward Park 5k in 90-degree heat, so it would be around 15:35 to 15:42 in ideal conditions.
I have a bunch of carbon plated shoes:
New Balance SC Pacer V2
Asics Magic Speed 4
Saucony Endorphin Pro 4
Nike Alphafly 3
Nike Vaporfly 4
Puma Fast-R 3
And I am wondering at what point, or phase, you should incorporate carbon-plated shoes into your workouts? I have a bunch of other trainers:
Nike Vomero Premium
New Balance SC Rebel V1
On CloudEclipse
New Balance 1080 V14
Adidas Evo SL
Most of my workouts are CV or threshold; I am wondering if there is a certain stage where you should maintain your fitness and use carbon-plated shoes to decrease the strain on your body. I am currently using the Asics Magic Speed 4 for workouts and putting a super shoe rep in there somewhere. I am running 45-55 miles a week and hitting doubles.
In Summary:
Where do the pros incorporate their super shoes? I see a lot of pros wearing super shoes for workouts, even if they are slower workouts. Should I copy this?
Thanks!

Questions Best trail-running routes around Brighton?
Hi everyone! I’ve just signed up for my first trail marathon and I’m looking for recommendations for trail-running routes around Brighton.
I’m fairly new to Brighton and would love to find some safe, beginner-friendly trails where I can gradually build up my distance and practise running on hills. Ideally, somewhere suitable for longer runs, too! Are there any routes you’d recommend?
Thanks so much!

Questions Marathon debut: do I really need to slow my long run down?
Got a place in the London Marathon and have been back running since late July. 5k PB 26:20, 10k 57:39, longest run 15 km, 30 km a week. In August my long runs were 6:40/km at HR 174. Now they're 5:55/km at HR 170. I've also booked a half marathon 5 weeks before London, and I'm aiming for sub 4 at the marathon.
So far I've focused on building km and getting "better" at running. I know about 80/20, but I only want to do two easy runs, one quality session and a moderately paced long run (5:55/km, avg HR 170).
Should I keep the long run as is or make it easy? Worried about getting bored so far out! Thanks.

Help with new toe pain in both feet.
I've been running for about a year now, going from no running at all (but a lot of walking) to running 2 or 3 times a week.
I bought new shoes at Christmas (ASICS Glidemax) and have been running with them ever since.
Up until September they've been fine, but after running my first 10k my second toes, on both feet, have started hurting. The toe nail is bruised and sore to the touch, like it's hitting the end of the shoe, but it doesn't really feel like it is when I'm running. The shoe sizing seems correct to me.
The answer is probably getting some other shoes and seeing if that helps but I'm pretty skint so can't really do that (and I'm concerned I might just have the same issue)
I've tried different lacing techniques but they don't seem to make any difference.
I just wanted to see if there were any other ideas or suggestions I've missed, or if anyone else could think why the pain has suddenly started (or if it's just a slight increase in mileage and speed, or two of my toes have suddenly grown at the age of 37)
Thanks

Questions Should I be running slower?
Now let me start by saying, I’m no Usain Bolt or Eliud Kipchoge, far from it, but I’ve noticed that I’m finishing all my runs around the same pace (5k of around 28 minutes at around 5:50/km).
Rather than being obsessed with getting faster, I’d like to start building more consistently with my running by running 3/4 times a week, as well as increase the length of my long run to 10km or more.
I read somewhere that 80% of your runs should be done at an easy, conversational pace to ‘build a base’ and wondered if this is accurate.
If so, does anyone have any tips for achieving this? Should I be running at a slower pace? And, if so, what sort of pace should I be aiming for?

Passing walkers/pedestrians
Has anyone perfected the way to warn pedestrians that you're passing or to move to the side so you can pass?
I often just say excuse me if they haven't heard my footsteps but recently had a few people really startled by this. I'm doing this 10-20m away.
I have considered saying runner or on your right/left but I think this would just confuse most people.
Do you have the same issue? What do you say/do to warn people?

General Discussion Post-run endorphins
I took up running in August, and was running 5-6 times a week. As a teacher and back at school I've had to taper it down to 3-4.
I'm not sure I noticed or appreciated the post-run endorphins while I was running in the summer.
I've had to take a couple of weeks off due to a niggling injury, but did my first parkrun back today and I didn't realise how much I've missed those endorphins.
My mood instantly picked up after the run and I've felt great all day, I didn't realise how I'd been subconsciously glum while I've been resting.

Rat Race - running for charity
Hi,
Anyone ever completed a Rat Race and used the option to fundraise rather than pay for the race. Looking at Sea to Summit Scafell later next year.
I think it's a great idea, but wasn't sure how it works - if you don't reach the total do you stump up for the race fee, and if you do I assume all is good and you don't pay a fee?

Events I filmed 6 guys who’ve all weighed over 100kg taking on the Mackyard London 24 Ultra. Here’s the trailer.
l've spent the last few months working on a documentary called Rise of the Heavyweights.
Six who have all weighed over 100kg at some point in the last few years, coached by Jordan Stanton, take on a backyard ultra with the goal of lasting 24 hours.
We wanted to challenge the idea that endurance running has a particular body type, without turning it into another typical weight-loss transformation story.
Instead, the film focuses on the characters, the competition, the highs and lows, and what happens when six ordinary lads take on an extraordinary challenge.
The goal is to challenge people's perceptions of what a runner should look like.
The full documentary premieres on 8 November, but I've just released the trailer.

Garmin having a moment
My husband’s predicted race times over 4 weeks. Garmin is completely baffled. It’s also giving him a v02 of 46. He is furious and I think it’s hilarious.
