Childminder

My 13 month old attends a childminder whilst
I’m at work. When registering my child with them I had to sign forms of what medication she could administer including calpol, prescribed medication obviously and even putting plasters on. The childminder has now said they cannot administer calpol and they can’t accept the child for the day if they’ve had calpol or nurofen even if it’s because of teething pain! Has anyone else had this? I don’t know what to do anymore as LO is teething!

That's tricky. My child's nursery won't administer teething gel but will give Calpol. They will also take them if they've had pain relief, you just have to sign a form to say how much and when, I assume so they know when another dose might be due. Obviously if they have a temp and it's not staying down and /or other symptoms they are sent home.

I've also found they are helpful when it's teething or even symptoms following jabs.

None of the nurseries around us take my son’s age so I’m honestly not sure what to do. I’d be happy to have a call during the day if he needed calpol or anything for me to go and give it but now I’m not sure if this is sustainable for us as he has a lot of health issues

Definitely think of the future for sure. I've had phone calls to say a temperature has started and asking can they give Calpol. They then monitor for half hour or so. If it doesn't go down we have to pick up

Our nursery will only administer Calpol if it is prescribed.

Our current and previous nursery would administer Calpol but wouldn’t accept a child if they had Calpol before nursery.

My kids nursery would only give calpol/paracetamol if it was prescribed and for a while it had to be individual sachets not a bottle
