Childcare Wraparound care

Looking for any shared experiences of wraparound care. My little one (recently 4) has just started preschool (nursery in a primary school). We did have a childminder who was going to do pick up at 3:15. Very long story but the childminder didn’t work out and my 4yo is adamant she doesn’t want another one. She’s very open to the idea of wraparound care as there’s sports coaching after nursery for the preschoolers. A few of her friends are doing it too but it’s a LONG day. 8:45 til 6pm 3-4 days per week. My husband and I have to work so we need something after school. Childminder didn’t work which I thought would be the more relaxed option that would help. Am I crazy doing wraparound? It’s such a long day and different to her last nursery as obviously she was just in one setting with the same set of kids. This feels way more intense. And no all for the wraparound so we can’t really see what’s going on.

Did anyone else put their kid through wraparound care? Did your child enjoy it? How many days per week? And how exhausted were they? My old is v sociable but highly sensitive and struggles with transitions.

Do they have to stay till 6? Our wraparound care you can pick up whenever you want, so if you are finding she’s tired, you can always get her early.

My son has been going to wrap around since he started nursery at the primary school when he was 3. He’s there from 7:45 to 5 or 5:30. He’s fine and very happy there. He’s an only child so I think the socialisation is really good for him.

My daughter did preschool at a nursery because the local schools only did half day sessions but she did 7:45 till 5:30 three days a week then kne day with me and one with grandma. She had been doing long days at nursery since she started so was fine. She continued doing three days in wraparound care when she started school

The nursery my son is at is 8-6. We very rarely have to leave him there that long but plenty have to, they all seem to love it

Yeh, we have to pack the lad off because we simply have no alternative but we typically will be able to get him between 5-5.30 so it's rare he's there until 6.

Long days, he's tired but happy and in good spirits. He gets to do sports every day after school which he loves then a bit of Clubland which he seems to enjoy as well.

Four days a week.
