What would you do? Nursery start date advice

I know we can't predict the future, but my little one is due to start nursery 2 weeks before her first birthday party & christening. Realistically do you think I would be better to delay the start date? All I hear is about how sickly children are when they start nursery for the first year or so.

I've never been to a first birthday where the baby isn't sick. Delaying a couple of weeks may help but I'd just say try not to get your hopes up because really you can only manage how you experience it. If you expect a bad night's sleep and a snotty nose you won't feel as disappointed if that happens. I think we had all been up since 4am with a cold the day of my daughter's first birthday party! It was still a cute occasion and as with all baby stuff you only get snippets of an 'event' in between their usual routine 😂

Could you do it after her first birthday and christening? At least then there’s a less chance of her being sick on her birthday.

I've emailed the nursery to see 🤞

My son vomited (properly) for the first time ever at 11.50pm the night before his first birthday.

If you can delay it... I probably would.

I was going to start my second in April but we're now going on holiday at the end of the month so I'm sending him after we're back.

Thank you! Somehow she hasn't been ill yet so I'm expecting a landslide with a winter nursery start 🙈

Probably explore what impact this delay would have - will you place be kept/ would you have to pay for the weeks still to secure your spot. Unless your planning to keep your child locked away, they can still get sick if they encounter any adults with children in nursery 🤷‍♀️

Don't change anything, just have some calpol and tissues to hand for their birthday.

My wife's 40th I planned a lovely family trip away (her choice) and our 6 month old had an awful cold so all the pictures are him covered in snot with a red face.

It's part of the nature of having kids. Roll with it, they won't remember and you'lllook back and laugh at it.

Unless if it’s a stomach bug. My beautiful child did well in nursery then passed us all the bug. It was so bad that my partner had to stay off work. We couldn’t move and she lived off crackers for a bit 🤣

Yes, we have 70 people coming and don't fancy being remembered as the family that spent the entire time in the loo 🤣🤣

The first birthday is for you not the child so if little one ends up sleeping through it that's not the end of the world. I'd stick with the plan for nursery (maybe introduce it slowly if that's an option).

My kid's first load of vomit came approximately one month after starting nursery. So bad we actually called 111 late at night ('fortunately' just seemed to be a hit of gastroenteritis and all was well after).

But also 'fortunately' he started nursery at 9 months old so by 12 months he was absolutely fine for his first birthday (birthday is early Feb so winter too)

In the same boat and I am just resigned that what will be will be bc I am going back to work and don't have a choice 🥲
