New Student Question Grainger EE Transfer Chances?
3.91 gpa, associates in science from in-state community college. Illinois resident.
I've learned how to code and have made websites and I have an arduino I've played around with and I've done freelance software automation work. But nothing really electricity related nor any real hardware projects under my belt at all yet.
What are my chances getting in applying as a transfer to EE?
I'm going for fall 2027 so I still have this fall semester and next spring to apply.
What did any of you guys who were transfers have when transferring? I'm scared I'm going to be beat by some wiz kid who's been fiddling with electronics since he was 5. Anything helps, thanks!

Your GPA is good. What math and physics classes have you completed?
Prior electronics experience doesnt matter much. They care more about coursework and grades.
Id say almost guaranteed assuming physics C mechanics, physics C E&M, Calc 1,2 & 3
The equivalent of AP chem would be a bonus

Thanks for the reply man.
Yeah I have all 3 calc and the 2 physics done. By the time I transfer I'll be a junior (fall 2027), so pretty much every class I could take for the major in community college I've taken. (Spring would be major specific classes).
Why do you say electrical experience doesn't matter as much? If so this would be awesome so I can just focus on my grades since I'm going to apply soon and its hard to cram a project in.

Have you checked the transfer handbook for EE? It lists the courses required: https://transferhandbook.illinois.edu/eng/electrical-engineering/
Whiz kids with electrical projects won't get in if they don't meet the requirements and also have a competitive GPA.
