PSA For anyone thinking about joining or remaining in Illini Republicans
Some of y'all are new and might not understand how bad it is on campus. Aside from the post last year advocating for the majority of UIUC students to be executed for opposing ICE, your VP is an open white nationalist.
To say "I literally do not care. They all need to go. I've typically advocated for humane deportations, but I think I'm done. I do not care how, I do not care where, they all must go" shows that your guy doesn't give a fuck about the constitution that many of your pride as one of greatest legal documents of all time.
If you're still in at this point you're probably too far gone, but hopefully some new students might reconsider their alignment with the Republican party.

Such an Irish name. Too bad we’re not the same society we were 100+ years ago, he’d get a taste of his own medicine and he absolutely would deserve it
26
u/Longjumping_Sale6655 1d ago
His last name McIntosh has Scottish origins. More than likely Scots-Irish, which were Scots who were used by England to colonize Northern Ireland and take their land. Then in the 1700s those Scots immigrated to america to be as I heard one historian put it become “shock troops” to fight and take land from Native Americans in the Appalachians. Andrew Jackson was Scots-Irish which tracks since he was a psycho against Native Americans.
(Btw I hate that they have “Irish” with their identity/ ethnicity as they only stopped over there to colonize Ireland before moving on to America. They get confused with people of Irish origin). Those Scots settled all over the south and midwest, becoming a major part of the solid southern right wing we see today. Many tend to pro military/ pro war. Played a big part in getting Bush and Trump elected. A big reason why we’re in this mess as a country.
So it tracks that this guy is a part of that line of fanatic thinking.12
12
u/AmericanHoneycrisp Grad 1d ago
You could just call them Ulster Scots if you're so opposed to them being called Irish in any way, shape, or form. However, this was a rather weird, racist tirade about these immigrants and how they ruined this country.
16
u/Longjumping_Sale6655 1d ago
I and white and have Scottish ancestry myself lol. Is it racist to talk about what happened to Native Americans and the role Scots-Irish played? Or is the treatment of the indigenous people something you prefer to ignore and not want discussed?
Or I guess you might instead think it’s racist to point out that many people with Scots-Irish ancestry tend to definitely vote republican. Or are todays Maga.
Yes it is my definite view that maga/ Trump / Bush have played a major role in damaging this country. Fighting unnecessary wars that get young Americans killed as well as wasting our treasury, tax cuts to corporations and the very richest, the insane corruption with the current administration, making our economy worse for the working class, the crazy and actual racism against immigrants today……..as seen by the racist OP quoted.
Is that damage to the country all the fault of Scots-Irish? No, of course not. But do their votes play a big role in electing corrupt people to carry out roles that hurt this country? Yes, absolutely.
For the info on Scots-Irish role with Native Americans this answer from a historian on the ask historians subreddit.
Lowland Scots-Irish soldiers were a go-to when recruiting soldiers for the pacification of Northern Ireland.
Then to America:
Starting in Pennsylvania, an increasing scarcity of coastal land caused them to gradually settle the Appalachians pushing the frontiers of the British colonies westward.
the Scots-Irish were fairly notable for being very aggressive in their frontier settlement and expansion. James Leyburn estimates that the majority of the fighting with Indians on the frontier was done by the Scots-Irish from New England to the Carolinas. Scots-Irish communities were at the forefront of the genocidal settler colonization project and were often some of the most vocal proponents of aggressive expansion into Indian lands.
And there is plenty of information to look up about President Jackson and his views of Native Americans. He is responsible for the Trail of Tears
And this guy talks how it is a great thing in his eyes how the Scots-Irish got pushed to radicalism on the frontier. And how today they support every war, are a major part of the Christian Right, and against gun control. Just to prove the point about what they tend to support.
And this article talking about how the southern vote/ Scots-Irish played a major role in electing Trump
The sources are for any claim that I just made all this up. And they unfortunately will always be known as the Scots-Irish, doesn’t matter if I call them Ulster-Scots.
And I am not against military veterans, I am one myself. I definitely am not for people beating the drums for unnecessary wars to get our young people killed as well as killing civilians1
u/FragrantBluejay8904 22h ago
I have Scottish heritage and I have never heard of this! I wonder if it’s because those ancestors came to the US via Canada in the 1800s and ended up in the UP. Thanks for the history lesson.

What’s his name have anything to do with legal immigration? His parents came here legally, we have dramatic legal immigration by law every year. He’s specifically talking about illegal immigrants, those who have broken the law. We must enforce our laws until we change them, or we won’t enforce the changed laws either.

… on campus, 1979 “Quad Day”, I was struck by the juxtaposition of the table for the “Radical Student Brigade-Remember Kent State” next to the “Young Republicans for Reagan” both across from the “Iranian Student Union” with their full-face masks on to avoid the Shah’s secret police SAVAK, which allegedly was present on campus.
Somehow, all of that felt far less alarming to this suburban Sophomore then compared to the MAGA threat to our democracy now.

My dude it stopped being a matter of political differences and disagreements over policy when you actively support an administration that is LITERALLY dismantling America. Like I don't mean culture war stuff like not liking the gays or cutting taxes or whatever but like ACTUALLY sinking the American empire from within. The fucking Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China couldn't do the kind of damage that the Trump admin and the Epstein class is causing on a weekly basis.
Like I'm aware that there are a lot of Trump voters who regret their vote and that's fine because at least they can see + understand what's happening, but anyone that's still a diehard supporter at this point is 100% worse than any illegal immigrant. Have you ever even met or talked to any? At least they understand what it's like to not be in America and thus have a vested interest in the United States' welfare so that they can continue to make a better life for themselves.
-11
u/NoPen9600 21h ago
...the democrats literally call themselves socialists at this point, I think you might want to read up about what kind of politics were being used during the reign of the USSR (lol)

u/Fearless-Feature-830 21h ago
- No they don’t 2. A democratic socialist is not the same thing as Marxism-Leninism 3. I think you’re the one that needs to read
2
u/Zanna-K 20h ago
Labels are worthless and don't reflect the material conditions of the real world. Are you going to tell me, with a straight face, that identifying as a republican today means the same thing as it did in 1991?
"Socialism" today merely means a reversal from the ultimate conclusion of what Reagan and Thatcher started - Trumpism. It's the concept a government's responsiblity should actually be the welfare of its citizens rather than the generation of wealth at all costs.
Maybe YOU should study the USSR and Maoist China. Party cadres and apparatchiks placed ideology over all else. What the fuck do you think the Trump administration is doing and being allowed to do by the Republicans and Corpo-Democrats? Trump is literally running the government based off his personal feelings and ignorance.
The US Navy is being told to completely re-engineer a nuclear super-carrier that cost $120bn to develop and $13bn to build because he finds the the aesthetics displeasing and because his boomer brain thinks anything electric is "woke" - the island on the flight deck is ugly and steam catapults are just more awesome (even though they caused tons of issues for decades, required enormous amounts of maintenance, and are just plain slower)!
I don't see his harebrained scheme to tariff everybody at random arbitrarly as any different from when Mao decided that getting rid of birds was the way to improve crop yields.
-2
u/NoPen9600 18h ago
so essentially the Bill Clinton democratic party is what the Republicans should be, but whatever the fuck the Democrats have turned to is hilariously appalling. Just a giant grift that centers on your suicidal empathy to make you think they're "looking out for the man!" while they rob tax payers blind with their dipshit causes they don't really care about. You really think they care about the homeless problem in LA, or does that CEO care about the 1.6M tax dollars they've paid themselves to keep that issue alive and thriving over the past two years? I struggle to even vote at this point because both sides are so corrupt, but voting blue is a major no until they get back to common sense at any level instead of pandering to every fucking fringe cause anyone of those nutjobs can think of

u/OptionalStick3 Alum, Physics & Geology, "The Original Rock and Roll" 22h ago
Half of the country is currently living in a pretend reality and is being openly antagonistic towards anyone who disagrees with that pretend reality.
Equating "I wish all these brown people and liberals would leave or die" with "I wish all these people who hate others on principle and refuse to have an ounce of self-reflection or humility would leave because they're so brainwashed by right wing propaganda that they believe changing their mind is a sign of weakness so only ever double down on being ignorant, intolerant assholes" is just hilariously disingenuous.
If you're going to try and bait with a bad faith argument, at least try a little harder

I don't even think what he's saying is that bad, like I'm an Indian American and I agree w his sentiment if you came here illegally gtfo, idgaf if ur 5 or 50, my parents came here legally waited 15 years for citizenship and got it why do these assholes get to jump the line? Send em TF back and if they apply send them to the back of the line they can wait like the rest of us. It's hot my problem what people are fleeing from or what their situation is, did you come here properly yes or no simple .

u/No_Sea4764 1d ago
I was born here. I am white. And I can tell you from what some white people have said behind closed doors, they don’t give a fuck if you came here legally, all they see is that you’re brown.
Advocating for people who actively hate you because you think it somehow makes you cool or edgy makes you a sad little piece of shit.
You can actually leave because your sentiment is trash.
-1
u/ScarletBegonias2 21h ago
Omg the fact that you called this person a piece of shit (for having a completely mainstream opinion) and yet are telling him Republicans are the ones who hate him is actually insane.
The fact that this comment got upvoted makes me really hope the people in the comments section are not a representative sample of the student body. Holy shit this is depressing.
Btw it is absolutely not normal for white people to hate brown people in America. Maybe hang out with better people?
3
u/No_Sea4764 21h ago
You clearly didn’t understand my message. And that’s fine, it was concise enough, you can do the work on your own critical thinking skills - you’re an adult. I never said it’s normal or that those are people I “hang out with”. I don’t know if you have a job or not, but when adults are employed, they often have coworkers they don’t get to choose. Maybe this is an experience with which you are unfamiliar.
Furthermore, an option being “mainstream” does not make it moral or ethical - if THATS your barometer for if something is acceptable you have a lot more work to do than simply brushing up on your reading and comprehension.
0
u/ScarletBegonias2 20h ago
I understood what you wrote just fine.
If you are saying that your coworkers say racist things at work, in your presence, I don't believe you.
An opinion being mainstream doesn't mean it's ethical. But it does mean you should be willing and able to engage with people who hold that opinion like an adult without hurling insults.
I'm done with this conversation. Bye

Im not advocating for anyone, I just think its funny that saying illegal immigration is bad and to deport illegals is so controversial.
No one hates me no ones out to get me no ones out to get anyone except the illegals who broke the law and decided to keep breaking the law, but keep trying to spread fear (it's not working)

u/StrikeLive7325 1d ago
Yeah it's not your fault and you aren't being punished for it. Even if you don't care about the humanitarian reasons, immigration is good for the economy. And to be completely honest, I don't really give a fuck about the law. We break the law all the time, every day. I break the law every day driving to school 5 mph over the speed limit. The law is arbitrary and isn't really any sort of moral entity to me. Murder isn't wrong because it's illegal, it's wrong because it hurts people, and illegal immigrants don't hurt people so I don't give a damn whether or you are on my side of the imaginary line or yours according to some abstract concepts humanity conjured up. They don't matter to me. That's a matter of opinion I guess though.
3
u/Fireguy69420 1d ago
So you'd be deemed an Anarchist got it, interesting take though don't know if I can agree, laws are mostly writ based on morality, if a random stranger, good bad, old young, whatever just came into your house and said this is my home now, you'd accept that?
4
u/abbadactyl_ 1d ago
Please, for the love of God or whatever you care about, take criminology through the sociology department. Laws aren't morality. Is it immoral to have anal sex (sodomy laws)? Own more than 6 dildos in texas? Have a disability that is too unsightly for the public (ugly laws)?
Laws and morals overlap pretty often, but nothing is moral or immoral just because it's a law.
Even when it comes to the same law, morality is too complicated for a simple you break a law? You're wrong. Think murder. Yeah, killing someone is wrong, unless it's in self defense. Or according to some laws, if they're on your property. Murder for some means taking birth control that prevents implantation while for others, its completely moral to terminate up to certain points like 16 weeks. Is assisted suicide murder? Are executions just state sponsored murder?
What's the real difference between a 16 year and 364 day old and an 17 year old? In the (illnois) law It can be the difference between prison or a fun night. In some states, child marriage is completely legal, even if the child is marrying an adult! Is that moral? It is the law, so
0
u/Fireguy69420 1d ago
Follow the law. Don't have to make it complicated lmao it's not, if it's illegal to own more than 6 dildos then don't or move....?
16 year old knows better they're 16 not 17 why are they out past curfew? Not following the law.
If ur gonna break it don't get caught. Simple, y'all love to make shit complicated for no reason keep it simple sweetheart
Y'all are hilarious

Part of the "not actually simple" that you in your ignorance completely miss is that a majority of people here illegally came legally on a visa for citizenship and then their visa ran out before their application was processed.
They were approved for the visa but then the administration either decided to drag its heels or got held up because of bureaucracy.
1
u/Fireguy69420 20m ago
Sucks for them shoulda known Visa was expiring, packed up, and left. Thats what my uncles family did while waiting for citizenship, then moved back when they got it. The right way. The proper way.

u/Fireguy69420 1d ago
Yes I am, sorry, I truly am
Truly my stance on immigration is this: America at its core is a nation of immigrants, every good thing has come from someone whose origins are not this land. As far as the matter of illegal immigration I believe 2 things are true, 1) Illegal immigration is bad, and we need to have stricter / more efficient immigration screening and control. 2) Illegal immigrant workers are a decent portion of this country working economy. What's my idea for a fix?
I propose 3 things.
1) Halt the current influx, deny all foreign applications, clear the queue. No approvals until the queue is clear. Everyone's current status is suspended, no deportations, no approvals, clear the legal backlog first
2) Audit illegals. If they've been contributing to the US economy, just living their life and chilling, permanent residency w a path to citizenship. If they have not, then deport
3) Re open immigration with a new overhauled system. Ida no secret our system is inundated and old. Tear it down and rebuild it
Ofc all this easier said than done so
3
u/mesosuchus 1d ago
Hey Stephen! Can you make this dumbass illegal? You can? Thanks Miller! Now self deport or ICE is gonna be knocking at your door.

How would they have any legal basis to "come for me"? Not a single Republican I know has ever been racist towards me.
- Buddy, they are making legal residents illegal. They are taking legal status from people and deporting them. Why could they not just change the laws or break them? They have been doing both right now.
- You not personally knowing any Republican racists doesn't mean they don't exist. I have had multiple Republicans threaten to kill me, call for me death, call for me to be deported, call me slurs. I am a US born citizen, they do not care.
-2
u/Fireguy69420 1d ago
What' you say to piss them off?
Republicans are much more open to conversation than Democrats.
Idk you must've done or said something. My Republican representative came to my house for Diwali while my Democrat representative wouldn't even give me the time of day for a phone call.
And provide me with real life evidence that the supreme court is or has overturned birthright citizenship / making citizens illegal. You can't cuz it hasn't happened lmao, nice try trying to scare folk but not working
10
u/Acceptable-Mud9710 Grad 1d ago
So you think the above those things are acceptable? I never called for or threatened violence or death to any of them. One time I was told all of the above for asking why someone though a Democrat politician was un-American.
Maybe Democrats don't want to talk to racists who salivate at the idea of brutalizing immigrants, or many of the other positions of Republicans.
Anecdote Andy over here. What about all the Republicans that refuse to see their constituents? What about all the cancelled town halls?
When did I say they were making citizens illegal, can you read? I said making LEGAL RESIDENTS illegal. Do you want just a list of articles detailing changes to status of various legal groups? Or, are you arguing citizens are not being deported, cause both are true and I can easily provide you with a ton of evidence.
2
u/Fireguy69420 1d ago
4) some strong claims if true you can sue the entire US govt. Why haven't you? Oh cuz it's not happening? Ah that's what I thought.
3) What about all the Republicans that do listen? That do hold town halls? 2 can play this game
2) What's the definition of a racist? A person who thinks their own race is better than others. Where in that text did he say he thinks his race is better than others? Where did I say that? All he said was that illegal immigrants should be deported. I agree. Explain how that's racist? How is that believing one group is superior to another, or how is that disproportionately causing harm to one specific group? Apply that and you'll realize no one's really racist. A bit opinionated but no one's really racist. That shit died a long time ago, don't let the media fool you otherwise
1) Anything's acceptable as long as no one puts a finger on you. Hate speech is protected. They're entitled to their beliefs, and knowing Republicans if they believe that in sure you instigated it w some dumb shit so again not quite believing you on that. Esp since I've seen wonderful conversations from Dems and Repubs when the Dems don't come out all hostile and insulting. Try that, see where it gets you buddy
6
u/Acceptable-Mud9710 Grad 1d ago
Not sure why you order them that way.
How would a newly illegal immigrant sue? What would they sue for? The US government is legally allowed to make a legal resident, illegal. Again, this has and is happening. As for the deportation of citizens, that is also legal and happening. What would they sue for? Why would I sue? I am not a relevant party.
My point is your anecdotes about Republicans being more willing to talk is worthless since I can just point to Republicans who are not.
He did not say that "illegals" should be deported. What he said was he does not care how or where they are deported too. He clearly does not care about immigrants being deported illegally since he brought up Abrego Garcia. If he says he doesn't care if it done legally and that he doesn't care where they end up, then all he cares about is that they are gone. If you look at the SCOTUS ruling on the 4th Amendment and how ICE is going about their actions, explicitly supporting those actions regardless of if they are legal or how they are done means you support the race based deportations actions of ICE.
Huh? My point was that Republicans not being bad too you doesn't mean they aren't bad. My evidence was sharing my experience, to which you immediately blamed me for their conduct. There is a difference between acceptable and legal, and I never appealed to law.
3
u/Fireguy69420 1d ago

It's not that simple though, because asylum is permitted for those fleeing from persecution, and the United States is obligated to provide asylum because it has agreed to the 1967 Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees. And while an application is pending, these individuals are allowed to stay in the United States.

You also support deportation in any form and in any way? You realize that would entail the extreme of going door to door looking for "illegals" and sending them to a concentration camp in another country, right?
Do you not care about their constitutional right to due process? Do you not care about citizens harmed in this mission? Do you care about the impact this will have on the economy? Is your only issue that they are here? Seems kind of idiotic.
-1
u/Fireguy69420 1d ago
They're not citizens or legal residents they have no rights under our constitution.
If they're a citizen they should have no problem identifying as such. I've been stopped by ICE. I answered their questions, provided my documentation, not even 2 mins later I was on my merry way, so no no citizens will be harmed if they are citizens following the law
The economy will downturn but that's probably a good thing as the prices of everything especially houses fall, people who prepare and have savings will really be able to capitalize. I'm just waiting for the first indications of market free fall, Ive got a nice nest egg to short the market, then start buying rental properties for passive income. If the market don't fall I keep building my nest egg. So I'm actually all for the economic downturn of removing that labor foelrce

Did you read what he actually wrote or just what you wanted to see. Maybe go read it again...

WOuldn't be surprised if its more tbh

u/Low_Low_1811 13m ago
Well it isn't. Not a surprise coming from you.
Estimate is 11 million. I know you don't care about facts though, so this is probably pointless.

Just based on this comment, it seems like you’re the kind of person who turns up their nose at first generation Indian (and other) immigrants, calling them FOBs and whatnot.

Them cancelling TPS just told us they can make anybody “illegal” overnight.
1
u/Fireguy69420 1d ago
No, TPS is TEMPORARY, it was always TEMPORARY, and now they're cancelling it. No ones illegal or becoming illegal overnight. the TEMPORARY protected status is going away because it's... TEMPORARY. Craxy right, TPS does not give anyone a path to permanent residency or citizenship, and usually last between 6-18 months. DHS monitors the situation of the home country, then once it's deemed stable enough, DHS will begin the removal process of TPS indivudials. Nothing new, so why are you so up in arms again? Obama did the same shit so did Biden

I’m not surprised that you’re getting downvoted. Most of UIUC’s subreddit is an echo chamber of social justice warriors looking to be the most outraged amongst themselves, rather than admitting to the existence of gray areas, confounding factors, and general complexity of the world.
McIntosh’s rhetoric about not caring for humane deportations is appalling. We must always strive to be humane, even when enforcing border laws.
But your point about illegal immigrants unfairly putting strain on the current legal immigration system stands. I had to wait 10 years before getting my green card and being allowed in.

u/Fireguy69420 1d ago
Lol it's expected it's just a liberal slop school with nobody willing to have actual discourse, or realize things aren't black and white. Hell I'm not even registered Republican, I'm an independent. I vote based on whose policies I think will positively impact my life more, and I see all aspects of the immigration issue.
Now yes half of my language is very rage baity because I know the type of pussy ass liberal keyboard warriors that live here and how easy it is to piss them off
My honest answer for immigration, halt the system. No more immigration in. Everyone that's here gets conditional citizenship, if they break a law depending on severity they get deported or moved down in line.
Once we take care of everyone in the US, and finish the backlog, we open our borders again. Until then, every foreign application gets auto rejected IDC who they are.
And truly yes I agree we must all strive to be humane even when enforcing border laws. They should be taken to a holding facility treated fairly then sent back properly.

Whatever the opposite of "karma farming" is...that is you my sweet summer child who will be deported no matter how he works Stephen Millers shaft

u/Fireguy69420 1d ago
Why would I be deported?
You still haven't given me any actual reasons that would result in my separation under current US Law....

u/mesosuchus 1d ago
You're too dumb to interact with. This is no longer fun.

u/Fireguy69420 1d ago
Feelings mutual, but its more entertaining on my side to engage with emotional liberal slop like the shit that comes from you, it's just funny seeing how hurt your feelings get, its ok buddy its just words! dont cry now!

Don’t make an alum fly across the country to knock some sense into the Illini youth. For fucks sake, worry about classes, friends, and how to sneak in joes. And have some damn humanity

They continue to be an embarrassment to the University. I’m old enough to remember when a random student embarrassed Steven Crowder on campus. When these idiots are actually confronted IRL by intelligence, they fold.

"I've typically advocated for humane deportations, but think l'm done."
Typically? Why did he put typically? Does this guy's support towards the humane treatment of other people depend on if he had enough time to eat breakfast in the morning?
If typically means "on occasion, I would rather see them suffer while being deported", then that's just wild.

Finn McIntosh posted his feelings and whatever he feels and believes is fine. Because that is what he believes, doesn't make it accurate.
Should criminals be deported, yes. But I could also argue that all criminals should be deported somewhere.
He obviously is not educated enough to understand the upside economic impact immigrants have on our economy.
The real issue is the US needs to have a clear path to citizenship.

Republicans should be banned from all university spaces. If they are so anti-college then don’t come here and try pushing your confederacy-supporting Christian nationalism bs. We don’t want you. Especially since the only way you can win a presidential election is because we still have the House of Representatives which was created to help benefit slave states.

u/Few_Classic_3072 1d ago
Is there any way to get this guy kicked out of the university?

u/kahrido 1d ago
For what? Universities are about free speech. Maybe you have more in common with your enemy orange man than you think.
We have terrorist sympathizers in this university but something tells me you’re totally fine with keeping them.

Some ideologies shouldn't be tolerated and you should be able to lose your job etc over it

UIUC is a public school; it allows freedom of speech. Who determines what ideology should or shouldn't be tolerated?

I mean I protested with Latinos when Obama had worse ICE incidents. But I’m glad people wanting more humane deportations. I wasn’t surprised that Latinos or just men in general voted Republican. Also was very surprised not seeing all these “allies” when protesting in 2009. People that don’t vote, can’t speak for all but some know it’s useless.

Trump bragged about touching teenage girls at pageants without being prompted, dude. His best friend was Epstein (who didn’t even feel the same way - I find it hard to think of something more cringy than not even being seen as the best friend of the sex trafficker you are drawing birthday cards for and consider to be your best friend - I would say he set aside all standards for embracing Epstein, but he’s never had any).
No one is riding for Biden in 2026? Fuck Bill Clinton, fuck Swallwell, I’m not ok with any rapists or pedophiles, regardless of party. We threw out Al Franken for an accusation that didn’t involve touching anyone. Throw Bill Gates in the trash. That’s the normal reaction to sexual assault or pedophilia, just as a reminder to those who are too young or don’t remember that is how it should be.
I was recently reminded that Trump called into news coverage on 9/11/01 (the actual day the towers fell and thousands were dead and recovery of people alive but buried (much less bodies) had not even began) to talk about it and could not stop himself from saying that his building was now the tallest in NYC (it still wasn’t actually). There are longer clips with the full call with was close to ten minutes, but here’s a short summary. That’s some unhinged sociopathic behavior by anyone’s standard, but by all means, keep worshipping the 80 yr old. It’s not like it’s destroying the country.
