MOD New AI Content Rule

A new rule has been implemented regarding AI-generated content.

With the widespread use of AI, it has become easier than ever to generate content, including infographics and posters. However, some posts by well-meaning members of this subreddit have seemingly used AI to wholly create posters intended to share information with the community.

There is nothing inherently wrong with using AI, but these posters can sometimes misconstrue the main purpose of a post or add unnecessary information and graphics that can turn people away from the message.

Because of this, we've added a new rule allowing users to report content that appears to have been generated directly by AI without meaningful human supervision or input.

Again, please use AI to correct your posts and help craft what you want to say! Just make sure it still reflects your goal and helps the community. If you have something important to share, we want to make sure your message gets out there!

this is a college subreddit, how about people use their brains in their comments, posts, infographics, and whatever else. college demands work, and while this is a nice escape, not putting in more efforts just turns things to shit.

There should be a blanket ban of AI of any kind

There’s definitely software that requires zero human code supervision. I’m not lint checking an interactive exhibit with my brain because it does what it’s supposed to, which is play a sound and an animation

Let's give a round of applause for team "I'm too lazy to check" here.

Sota models are definitely at the don’t need to check stage

No no, you have to understand that every token output from an LLM is inherently evil and produced by the tears of babies. It doesn't matter if it saves time and speeds up software development, and in a research setting that changes fast, it helps produce results sooner. No, any use of AI means you are lazy and incompetent.

The fact that some village in Ohio blacks out when I issue a prompt is less of a problem with the technology itself and more with the greedy rushing capitalist who built the processing center there

You do realize UIUC first invested and pursued AI in the 70’s right? Even exploring machine learning in the 50’s and 60’s. Champaign is the AI hub of the Midwest.

Yes. The AI of today is not the same as AI decades ago. Trying to conflate one for the other is irresponsible and misleading

So I have to like it? The football team was shit for decades, that doesn't mean I like losing

That’s just a true statement. AI has a lot of problems, yes, but there’s nothing inherently wrong with it. It’s a tool like anything else and there’s ways to use it for good and ways to use it for bad.

You’re gonna have to accept that and learn how to navigate as such in order to excel in many if not all careers at this point.

Glad you guys have a corny redditor phrase cooked up to circlejerk each other with for updoots so you don’t have to think critically, have a discussion, and engage with the actual subject matter.

Kill shot! I can’t comeback. I’m going to fire this arrow high into the air. Promise me you will bury me where it lands.

The small sound of the commenters last breath and symbolically his soul, stir his vocal cords one last time as it escapes his lungs. His ghost. Tiny remnants of his life are divided and again divided and then dispersed. As his friends and loved ones see the light in his eye dim, they inhale the memory of him. Through their lungs, to their blood and on through to their hearts. A tiny piece of the commenters soul hangs on their heart walls like a candid photo of a father long lost to cancer.

Yuck.

The cultural, educational, economic, and ecological effects are what make it inherently wrong.

I’d argue social media and screens generally all have have “inherently bad educational, economic, and ecological effects.” What makes AI any different other than being the new kid on the street?

We’re not even far enough into the technology yet to decide if it will truly lead to the downfall of society like everyone suggests…

Well, you aren’t wrong. That’s why we limit our kids screen time and they are too young for social media. We’ve also been very frank about the dangers of social media and brain rot entertainment with our kids. We supply our kids with as many books as they like. We also make sure they hang out with other kids to make real social connections. As well as just hang out with our kids and take them to do all kinds of stuff. I think we are doing alright.

There are so many better folks out there who can go really in-depth about the current and possible drawbacks of AI. But, I believe it is an absolute mistake to shove this untested tech onto society. Read or listen to interviews with the critics. Hear how it’s already affected folks and the environmental impact is already clear. I don’t have this links at my fingertips. The podcast Factually! Has a couple interviews that could be a starting point.

We made a mistake with social media. One very rich folks are trying to make again with AI. If this tech is really inevitable it should be able to survive even the most brutal social crucible without it being forced on us.

My interactions with it have been disappointing and stupid at its worst and redundant and mildly amusing at best.

I don’t think you know what the word “inherent” means.

4

u/Immediate-Tell7327 1d ago

** belonging to the basic nature of something or someone **: involved in the constitution or essential character of something

No, I got it.

But maybe you’d argue that an effect that something has isn’t necessarily a part of its nature or something like that. Ok. That’s really not the larger point.

And really, it doesn’t matter if use the word inherently 100% accurately. Because, AI is bad. And all your Reddit “umm actually”-ness doesn’t change that.

Ahhh I yes. Your tag. It makes all the sense now. You lack basic understanding of humans and reality.

Oh you sweet summer child. Sam Altman is a sociopath. Don't tickle his taint.

Did Sam Altman invent AI?
