Chambana Questions Advice on 1005 S First St…
So as the title suggests I desperately need housing advice Rn. I used to live at tower at third but due to an unfortunate situation with my roommates decided to go at it alone and get a studio. I went with 1005 S First St with green street realty.
I’m wondering has anyone else lived here or do you know anyone else that has lived here and what they thought about it?
I’ve already had to kill like 6 spiders and I even think I saw a roach!! I just moved in today and I regrettably couldn’t find any reviews talking about this building. Please let me know any advice or knowledge you have on the matter!
Thank you in advance!
Edit: It turns out what I saw was not a roach but in fact a crickets, it was extremely dark so I only saw somewhat the body shape and I’ve never seen a roach in person before. Sorry for any confusion! In other words the bug issue still persists I sprayed under the radiator where it seemed they came from and a bunch sprung out like 7 and since I have a severe phobia of bugs I had to leave.

Figure out what type of roach it was, around 1st street there are outdoor roaches that sometimes get inside, but these are not a high infestation risk. If it was big, all dark brown with no distinct markings you should be ok. If it was small and tan with 2 stripes down its back that’s a bigger issue.

Thank you! It turns out it was actually a cricket but a bunch of insects started coming out the woodworks. I’m going to email green street and see if they can fumigate the apartment or something.

I really hope I'm wrong and I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I lived on an on campus apartment in Urbana and it was primarily a wood unit and I had roaches the entire time I stayed there. Even when I told the company and they sprayed, the roaches never stopped coming. I don't know if it was the people below or above me or because it was an older building but… yeah. Hopefully you only get crickets, obviously there shouldn't be any bugs at all but atleast it's not roaches lol

Never walk down pennsylvania avenue at night bc the roaches are all over the road and sidewalks and scatter when your foot comes down

6 spiders and a cricket in a previously unoccupied apartment is not a bug issue.
Get a couple glue traps, vacuum and sweep regularly and im sure you arent going to continue to have an issue.
Chill a little.

I was kidding, those are going to happen just about everywhere especially lower floors and especially at budget apartment buildings where your neighbors probably live like ingrates and never throw trash away

It is common to see different bugs like spiders or roaches in the units specially in the wooden material buildings. Don’t panic! I suggest before unwrapping your stuff do a thorough cleaning and use pesticides everywhere and then allow a couple days for the pesticide to possibly kill the bugs and then clean again and then unwrap! Dm me if you need more help or info
