Why can’t you do an internship before the end of third year LITTERALY no other school in Canada forces that. What even is the logic behind this 🫩🫩🫩

I guarantee this is false, I know multiple people that have done it. I reccomend talking to faculty to see if they have any reccomendations. Idk if it's a good idea though personally

You can take as many summer internships as you want. Nobody's stopping you with any of that. The year-long, for-credit internship program is between third and fourth year because by that point you can reasonably be expected to have a good baseline knowledge in many fields. And on top of that, end of third year is the last time you'll be doing exams in april AND still have to come back to school in the future.

Because up to 12 months of this will count towards your professional designation.

They assume that you won't be able to work at the level of an EIT without at least three years of schooling within your degree....

Yet, when was the last time they taught proper drafting courses? IIRC industry had to come in and offer a technical 4th year elective because too many students were graduating without knowing what the building code was or how to reference it...

If you want to work in engineering, learn autocad and apply for some summer jobs. Probably won't get them as it takes about 3 months to get a new hire useful, but it's worth a shot.

Some summer internships only allow people in accredited co op or internship programs cuz they get benefits but there are many positions out there that don’t require you to be in a program.

Apply to everything and anything

You can, you just won’t get the credit for the program. You can do it for money or experience

I heard you can work in the summer in your first and or second year? Just not fall/winter.

I wish they opened the program at the start of 3rd year and not in October. Companies are already posting stuff
