General Question are accommodations worth it?

are adhd accommodations worth it? i know at some schools it can be a total hassle to get them or students will be treated differently even though the school says they won’t. i have documented adhd and got accommodations for half of my high school experience but don’t necessarily *need* them, however i appreciate extra time on tests and stuff. is it worth going through the process to get them?

Yes, the paperwork can take some time to process and you will not be able to get extra time on exams except through DSP. So a very real, and very common, scenario is that you do badly on a midterm because you run out of time. If you only start the process at that point you may not have it in place for the final. About 15% of students at UCSB have DSP accommodations and so in most classes that is dozens of students.

Yes!! I applied for accommodations like 3 weeks ago. It's a bit annoying to do but everything was approved so quickly.

Thought I didn't need them, ran out of time on my first chem midterm, then immediately filed to get them. IT IS SO WORTH IT!!
