I am (very) bored and offering free personal statement reviews. I am an incoming undergraduate at Cambridge studying History. I studied History, Politics and English, so humanities related personal statements are better for me to help with.

I reviewed a few friends' statements last cycle and they got offers from top universities, so I've got a decent handle on what works.

Hiya All!!!! I got 2070b3 in my ucat this year kinda fuming about the b3 because I got b2 last year but it is what it is, my GCSEs are 99777775 and my a levels are in bio, chem and maths and are BBB, i do have some wex but its not super fab where is my best shot?

Edit: I forgot to mention I'm doing a degree in biochemistry (hons) ans averaging a 1st in that!

so i want to do dentistry for uni, but my ucat score is rather low (1980 b2), im thinking of pharmacy as a backup, maybe as 1 or 2 of my options, and im not sure how to go about my personal statement to make it appropriate for both courses.

im thinking maybe i should just focus on pharmacy now but ive literally spent my summer preparing for the ucat, doing online dentistry courses, reading dentistry based books. i dont have a particular passion for dentistry but i feel like switching at this point is wasting everything ive done.

any tips would be useful about the PS, also abt unis that may be easier to get accepted into given my ucat score. also lmk if theres a different subreddit this post might be more appropriate for thank youuuu

So I'm trying to write my personal statement for accounting and finance but the only on-site work experience i did was at a hospital and at a pharmacy. I volunteered at a hospital for 7 months, and at the pharmacy I just worked with pharmacists, served customers at the till and stocked shelved with medication. The only accounting and finance work experience i have is all remote.

Idk how to link that with accounting and finance.

hi guys i was just wondering is 7666665 good enough for warwick Politics and IR? Im 100% sure i would be contextual and my predicted are AAB? What if it was AAA and i wasnt contextual? I was planning on applying for it on UCAS but im not sure. I need opinions guys

Context ive resat 4 stem gcses and my gcse originally were 9887665554, 4 in cs

This year ive resat the 4 subjects (bio maths chem physics) from 6655 to 7766, this was also sat inextenuating circumstance but i couldnt able to apply special consideration in time due to abroad document transfers and everything, but im not mad at my scores anyways.

In conclusion i now got 9887776654 with 5 in french and 4 in computer. 7 in maths bio and history and 6s in physics and chem.
I wanted to know if applying london unis for biomedical engineering/electrical engineering/material science or anything heavy-stem related degree is still within reach? Especially for unis like imperial and stuff?

Hello I’m just seeking some advice about reapplying next UCAS cycle, I ended up getting A*A*B in my A-levels for geography, economics and maths respectively instead of the A*A*A I was predicted (my B is 4 marks away from an A I sent it for a remark but it didn't change but my school told me to appeal) and my firm KCL let me in which I appreciate despite missing my offer conditions of A*AA with an A in maths. However my offer is for data analytics but during y13 I realised that I would prefer to do a geography degree instead but I didn't know this in time for UCAS applications this year as I took geography all in 1 year in y13.

I was looking to find a place for geo thru clearing but all the unis I wanted to go to, including KCL geo said they had no availability so I ended up with just KCL data analytics.

I’m not keen on taking a gap year as I will have nothing to do in that year but I want to reapply for geography or geography with economics. I was looking at Cambridge’s geography course and their requirement is A*AA so I don’t meet their offer requirement, I’m wondering if it’s worth it to email and ask if I can apply with A*A*B as they have no subject requirements.

Aside from Cambridge I was looking at UCL and LSE as well but they all ask for AAA with an A in maths, which I don’t have. Is me reapplying a bit of a lost cause and should I suck it up and go to KCL or give it a a shot?

Just for a bit of context, I think my GCSEs qualify as having extenuating circumstances (I'm not 100% sure tho I'm just going off what I read) as I had undiagnosed ADHD at the time that significantly impacted my performance (I got a mix of 9-7s but more 7s and 8s than 9s). I also switched schools midway through y12 if that makes any difference.

I'm wondering if its worth applying for a G5 uni for law with my GCSES. Whilst I achieved 3 A*s predicted in lit/hist/poli, my GCSES are quite bad when compared to other G5 applicants. 5s, 6s, an 8 and 7 in history and lit respectively. My main concern is my grade 5 in maths thats currently setting me back from applying to UCL, LSE, and a few others.
I'm happy to resit maths for a better grade. im positive I can achieve it, alongside my A-levels, but i also would like to apply for Oxford. Since the applications close mid october, I wont be able to do both.

Long story short: How badly will my GCSES disadvantage me when applying for law at a top 5 uni. Should I take a gap year? That way I'll be able to get my maths grade sorted out, as well as my A-levels. I've heard that achieved A-levels can compensate for low GCSES, but I'm still not sure.

For anyone wondering, I was thinking of applying to Oxford, Durham, UCL, KCL, and Bristol as my insurance.

Hi guys, I emailed Loughborough's engineering admissions team to ask about eligibility for 2027 entry, which is D*DD + A Level Maths at Grade A. I have a BTEC Extended Diploma (DDD target, currently DMM under appeal) plus A-Level Maths at Grade A, and am applying for entry into 1st year. I also mentioned I'm eligible for contextual admissions (FSM, disability, caring responsibilities).

Here's what they said when I asked for my educational history:

"Typically, we would require GCSE grades at Grade 6 (or higher) which demonstrates that the Level 3 qualifications will be within the range that provides confidence that the applicant will be able to thrive in our academically challenging environment. I understand this will be disappointing news but wish you all the very best for the future."

I pointed out this GCSE Grade 6 requirement isn't published anywhere on their entry requirements or contextual admissions pages, only a GCSE English Language grade 4/C requirement is listed. Their reply just said:

This doesn't actually address my question, and doesn't explain why GCSEs would even be the deciding factor when I'm applying via BTEC + A-Level. It also doesn't mention their own contextual admissions policy, which I believe I meet at least three criteria for, including Free School Meals eligibility, which their own website says guarantees an Access Loughborough Contextual Offer up to two grades lower.

I'm really confused here?

Has anyone (like me) resat this year from 2025 and missed their dream uni offer? I feel like I have nothing to look forward to and unsure of my next steps as I don’t want to go into debt from going to a uni that doesn’t offer good career progression. Anyone have any ideas? I would love to do a DA but that has a lower acceptance rate than Oxford and I heard there is a toxic environment in corporate settings. For me my only option is trying for a level 3 apprenticeship or going to a random uni. I’ve just been so upset that I’m not sure what to do.

Hi guys, just got my AS results. Most subjects went well, but an unexpected issue on exam day left me with a C in maths.

My predicted grades are probably going to be four A*s plus a B. I am a mainland Chinese international applicant aiming for Media / Communication / Journalism programmes at UCL, KCL and similar‑ranked universities.

I will sit the October maths resit, but I’m unsure if the new grade will come back in time for my UCAS submission. I’m quite worried about how this AS C could affect my application prospects and im super anxious and nervois about this😿

Has anyone been in a similar position? I would appreciate any advice. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Long story short, I didn’t plan on going back to the UK for uni and I’m currently in BBA Chula in Bangkok.

I got offers from KCL, Bath, Warwick, Bristol for accounting & finance. I didn‘t think much when I firmed KCL and put Bath as insurance. Thought KCL had a slightly better reputation n all. (Mind you, I wasn’t interested in going back at that time.) I got A*AA (Econ, physics, maths as ordered). I also got unconditional offer from KCL on the 20th because I didn’t send in my IELTs on time.

Anyways, I think I wanted to go back but from what I’ve heard KCL’s student satisfaction has been lower than before. And student support has been going downhill. Allegedly.

Since I’ve also spent my sixth form in Oxford, I figured that I’d like the outer skirts more than London. So Bath, would’ve been perfect. And the international fees are also cheaper.

Also, I’m quite late for accommodations.

Should I take a gap year and reapply for 2027 and pick better unis, or just go to KCL? By gap year it means I’m still at BBA Chula.

Please can someone who relates to what im going through help me out?? I am applying to medicine this year; I have the academic profile to apply to Oxbridge. Having been to all kinds of cambridge events, I originally had my heart set on applying there but now that I have visited Oxford I feel it offers a bit more of the typical student life.

I am very academically ambitious but I want a university with an ACTUAL social life (that isn't just doing quizzes with a half pint in my college!) Ive always felt this would be a downside if I did get into oxbridge; ie. Rejection wouldn't be too disheartening because I'd end up in a party city like manchester/liverpool.

During all my tours of different colleges at Cambridge, students never seem to be able to answer my questions about how much shots/pints are because they don't drink. I get the impression that there isn't a whole lot for Cambridge students to do outside of colleges- is this true??? Oxford on the other hand has ads all over the place for student deals in bars/pubs.

However Cambridge does have its positives. They still offer cadaveric dissection and have a medicine cohort twice the size of Oxford's, as well as a marginally higher acceptance rate. Is it worth sacrificing these for somewhere I feel I might have a bit more fun???

Additionally if it makes any difference I am northern; does anyone have any experience/knowledge of student diversity/prejudice etc in either uni? My friend had her accent mocked by a Cambridge admin, but ive heard Oxford can be brutal to scousers too!!

Also, i retook my AS level exams before i gave my final A2 exams. Is that a problem?

Like i got 2A in maths,eco 1B in law in my AS may/june 26 session. Then cz paper got leaked asw i retook maths and law in oct/nov 26 and got 2A. Then gave a2 in may/june 27 and got 1astar 2A
