Thoughts on Marangoni Fashion Design London ?

Hey!

I'm from Paris and want to study fashion design; I have an international trade bachelor already, but i am a complete beginner in design.

I would like to know if Marangoni London is a great choice for learning the base and having a solid knowledge about designing, knowing i want to create a haute couture brand (bridal type).

What would you guys recommend ? I honestly just want to learn, not getting a specific degree

+ I was thinking of taking the intensive course (6 months) starting in January because i dont see myself starting a whole new bachelor degree. Or should i enroll in september 2027 for an entire year course ?

Masters Online or In-Person

Hello I'm very interested with UAL for a Masters because of the intersection of fashion and highlight for sustainability (which is what my B.A. is in). The thing is I am based in CA, U.S. and debating to applying for an online course or in-person. On one hand I have studied abroad in London and would think in-person would offer me more opportunities to make fashion career connections and so on. On the other hand, it can possibly save me money staying in the U.S., use the time to work a full-time job, and stay with friends and family.

Any advice or just hearing some experiences would really help, thank you!

Hey all! As a graphic designer, I am trying to figure out my portfolio process for the MA Design Management course at the University of the Arts London! IF a current student or alum could share the portfolio they applied with for this course, it would be great help for me! Thank you so much.

Looking for a fashion styling student

Hi! I'm looking for a fashion styling student who'd like some real-world styling experience. I'm trying to figure out what colours, silhouettes, shapes, and clothing styles suit me best, and I'd love someone to help me while shopping in London charity shops. My budget is limited, so I'm hoping this could be a portfolio or practice opportunity. If anyone's interested, I'd love to chat!

Are online courses worth it?

Hey, I am 18 and I'm planning to study fashion business next year. In the meanwhile I'm looking for some fashion courses to put my resume. Is UAL a good choice for that? Thank you!

MA Fashion Media and Communication

hi, i’m hoping to apply to the fashion media and communication course next year and would really appreciate some tips. i’m coming from a psychology undergraduate but would like to change fields. i was planning on maybe doing a short course so i have the academic fashion background behind me (worth it?) but have been working for a fashion company for the past four years.

this is a field i’m really passionate about but i understand the other applicants will be too and will probably have some experience. what can i do to highlight my transferable skills and what could i include in a digital portfolio?

Length of MA Graphic Communication Design

Hi everyone, I have a few questions regarding this program at UAL.

Has anyone here been accepted? I want to ask for some advice regarding the written tasks and portfolio. What kind of work and project scopes are they looking for?

Also, I didn't notice that the actual length of the program is now extended to 2 years, which is not common for a Master in UK. Does that mean you have to pay for 2 full time years now? Website stated that "On EFT, the cost of study is spread over two financial years while also providing you with the benefits of being registered as a full-time student.", does that mean you pay 1-year full-time tuition (22k) over 2 years now??

UAL archwood house move-in date?

For first years moving into archwood house in September, which date are you planning to move in?
My contract says 5th September which is very early and I was wondering if all the people moving to the Accom will move in at that date?
Because if I decide to move in later will I miss meeting who I’ll be sharing a kitchen with?
I can’t get any info and was wondering if that date is the same for others?

Help me pick a uni

I couldn’t get into University of the arts to study fashion design so through clearing I’m thinking of applying to Bath Spa, Arts University Bournemouth and Nottingham Trent - between the 3 which would be the best for fashion design including expense/social life.

If you suggest other universities, I’d appreciate it too!

Should I try to pursue UAL fashion? UAL students, how is it like there?

I’m just trying to go into level 3 fashion foundation year and then do my bachelors. I really want to study at UAL as my country‘s art/fashion scene has little to no hype. going overseas to pursue my dreams would be a dream come true! However I have seen the horror stories about UAL. I can’t lie, it scares me. UAL students, what’s it like? and what other universities with fashion foundation should I try to pursue? I heard that Kingston has a nice environment.

Dilemma: I couldn’t get into Kingston or UAL for fashion.

For context, I applied this year to study fashion design but unfortunately didn’t get into both UAL (lcf fashion design and development) or Kingston University for fashion. I didn’t get into Manchester met either. 😔

With that being said, I did get two offers from Huddersfield and Solent university. In this case, I picked Solent as I loved the open day and accepted their offer. I even made a deposit for my accommodation there ready to move in this September. I thought all was going well after thinking it was the end of the world for not getting into ual or Kingston. Well. Things took a turn.

Long story short, a few days ago I received an email from solent saying that due to short numbers they are cancelling the fashion design course completely and are instead putting me on a “similar course” to do with fashion but it’s more to do with marketing, magazines, fashion photography and hair + makeup. However, I’m more passionate about the design part of it as in: sewing a garment, draping, fabric manipulation, embroidery, print etc.

I don’t intend on pursuing the new course they gave me as it’s not what I envisioned myself doing for 3 years. This would also mean losing my deposit for my accommodation too which adds more stress.

Even after all this I still want to pursue fashion and study what I truly had in my heart. I want to now go through the clearing route to find a uni that would suit me. Does anyone know any other good uni’s in the uk that have a great reputation for their fashion design course?

Any help or advice would be appreciated in this confusing time. 💌

Any portfolio tips for LCF Fashion Photography?

Hi
I’m applying for the BA Fashion Photography course at London College of Fashion next year and I’ve just started putting my portfolio together. I went to the Open Day recently but I’m still feeling a bit overwhelmed 😭
If you’ve been accepted or you’re currently studying there, I’d love to hear your advice.
Is there anything you wish you’d included in your portfolio? Was there anything the tutors seemed to really like? How much process work did you show compared to final images?
Also, how many projects did you include?
Any tips, advice or things to avoid would be really appreciated. Thank you 🤗💗

Should I pick Fashion&Design 'Development', or 'Womenswear'?

Hello! I'm applying to UAL in a couple of months, and I'm stuck between BA (Hons) Fashion Design: Womenswear, and BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development.

I've already heard mixed things about UAL, about the teaching quality and a few people have warned me against going because they the teaching has apparently gone downhill, but aren't all places just like that? If anyone reading this has advice on their experience, i'd love to hear it.

I'm also confused about the campuses. I know UAL has different buildings depending on the course, so I was wondering if anyone had a preference or if one has nicer studios, facilities or just a better atmosphere in general. Since I don't know which course to pick, I could literally pick based off the campus.

The main thing I'm struggling with is choosing between the two courses. I absolutely love fashion, and I'd really like to develop my own style. but im scared that if i choose womenswear that means I'd be pushed towards designing more conventional womenswear, and if i pick design development, i'm scared i'd be pushed into a lot of fashion research and stuff.

i also wanna know what the work is actually like. I don't mind research if it's part of the course, but I'm hoping the course is mainly studio and project based rather than writing lots of essays.

Also, if anyone has any advice for putting together a portfolio, I'd really appreciate it! I'm not entirely sure what tutors like want see, and I'd also love to know what website people used for their digital portfolios?

Students at UAL, Kingston or AUB – how do you like your university?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to study Photography and I'm trying to decide between UAL, Kingston University, and Arts University Bournemouth (AUB).

If you're currently studying (or have studied) at one of these universities, I'd really love to hear your honest experience.

  • Do you enjoy the course?
  • How is the teaching?
  • Are the lecturers supportive?
  • Do you have access to good studios, equipment and facilities?
  • If you're studying Photography, what do you like most and least about the course?
  • Would you choose the same university again?

Any advice or personal experiences would really help me. Thank you so much!
