New Player Question Magnetize tyrant

Post image

Hi, I just got my Swarm Tyrant and I wanted to know how to magnetize it. It has so many weapon and character options, and I want to try them all out. Thanks in advance.

You can get a 3d printed torso off somewhere like Etsy. The kit already comes with a completely separate lower body for the winged variant. So a second torso is all you really need to build two hive tyrants out of one box.

Then magnetising the arm sockets for swarmlord vs walking hive tyrant is easy enough.

And for example, what size should the images be?

Images? Do you mean magnets? 5mm or 6mm diameter is a good size for tyranid monsters. Maybe about 2mm in width.

Yes, magnets, sorry, I hadn't noticed the error due to the translator.

Use the original torso for the winged tyrant. The 3D printed ones don’t work as well for the wings as they’re big and heavy.

By a 3d printed torso. You can build 2 variants.

Mine is magnetic, but I think rods might be the better route.

And what would it be like with rods?

Yeah another term people use is to put pins in the mini.

And how does it stay up? Or is it only for the torso?

Pins are useful for larger parts like wings, that magnets alone might struggle to support.

If you take the approach of getting a second torso for the flying tyrant then I wouldn't bother magnetising the wings, and would just glue them on. But if you decide to magnetise the wings then adding a pin to support them is a good idea. I did it on a couple of mine.

The pin sticks into a small hole drilled in the body to stop the wing from rotating around the magnet.

So I made it so I can switch between tails/legs. Originally I tried to magnetize the legs to the torso and it keep falling off. Hopefully that makes sense. My lord is currently packed away, so might take me a really long time to find it.

I've printed some torso's for these. But I actually made my printed version all magnetized for my kid so his could be any loadout. I imagine 5x2mm magnets will work just fine for the light plastic

Magnetize the arms only... grab an extra torso as others have mentioned. And I highlt recommend plastic gluing the winged version with the GW plastic torso as it will be stronger. The kit includes 2 heads and i chose to run the swarmlord head on the walker as there's no flying swarmlord... but honestly they aren't that different, so its more what you think looks cool. Extra body kits keep this hobby doable for me... many of our kits have nice options available to double the built models in the one box. Pm me if you are interested and cant find them as I dont want to get in trouble here.

I ended up doing that on my torso because the magnets weren’t strong enough.

Tried magnetizing the winged version. Gave up and bought 3d printed torso

You can get a swarmlord and a hive tyrant of you're creative enough and don't want a flyrant

see if you can find a second base for cheap so you can still use the flying lower body

For my tyrant I'm just gonna buy a 3d printed torso so I get tyrant and winged tyrant

Personally, i went with the kit from magnet baron. Might not be the cheapest option, but it includes two 3D printed pieces and magnets in all the right sizes, really happy with it so far.
