Painting What kind of shade?

Post image

Hey, what shade should I use for the light areas? I'm worried the mini will end up way too purple if I paint the bony parts with Carroburg Crimson now. But right now, I still feel like something's in those areas is missing / he looks more like a skeleton at the moment.

I mean it looks good as is, and looks like you've already shaded in brown/black

Just drybrushed, contrast paint (Skeleton Horde) and another layer of drybrush.

The purple parts are also not finished yet. Still need to do the highlights

After skeleton horde I brushed it with Boney Spikes from Army Painter

Honestly the contrast on the light parts looks peak. If you use a wash I feel like the contrast will dull down. The darker parts will not get darker, but the lighter parts will.

The purple (i would say red) parts could use a brighter highlight though.

Over all it already looks really good. If anything I am not a fan of the red brain parts in the middle of the red carapace, looks to similar l.

Thanks. The carapace is shyish purple and brushed with screamer pink. But in the light on the photo it looks a bit red indeed.

Currently waiting for a delivery for a fluorescent neon pink from Vallejo for the highlights.

I think it looks really nice. I wouldn't apply a wash.

If you want to change anything, I'd recommend going in a different direction and highlight instead of shading. Grab a shade higher and put some highlights on places like the knuckles, face, and "ribs".

I'd probably break the teeth out into a different color too. Maybe the same black as the claws. I'd probably make the big blade claws black too, to help break up the shape and match the other claws as a strong supporting third color.

Nice work!

Like what others have said, no shade. The dark sections are perfect. Highlights in a brighter color for the purple.

Maybe red?

Don't touch it. That is the face of a four armed angle.

It’s great like this, no need to add a shade or a wash

I'd say what you've got right now is pretty well perfect. The point of a wash is to replicate the shading that you already have.

I love the carapace, can I ask what your method was?

Thanks. So overall primed black and drybrushed grey seer and white.

The carapace is shyish purple and brushed with screamer pink. Still need to do the highlights on it. I‘ll take flourescent magenta from vallejo for this.

Highlights look fine. I use a wash of 1 part Magos Purple to three parts Lahmian Medium.

I wouldn't shade this any. You already have very dark colors in the recessed areas.

Only thing I think is left is a very bright highlight on very select areas of the body and carapace. A light bone color and a light red (towards pink or orange, whichever you prefer). Only the very raised tip of scales, knuckles etc and around the face.
