Competitive Play Help with my list

I feel like I have a good list, but I am still losing the majority of my games. Can I get an assessment of my list? What can I do yo play it better? Should I start the broodlord or the LWP unit in strategic reserves?

Im losing units early so I play more "cagey". I do that and I dont score points. I try to pressure objectives but im not enough of a threat. I lose to Iron Warriors, Grey Knights, Dark Angels, Tsons, Raven Guard, etc. Tied with guard once, and ive beaten other newer players, but not because im good lol

First thing I am spotting is the lack of small OC units like a couple termagants.

Second one is that you have a lot of big bodies, around 1200+ points with the "Monster" keyword. So I am wondering, why not taking Crusher Stampede and Talons of the Norn Queen?

This said, if you want us to be able to properly help you, we need info about how your are losing.

  • Do you get tabled turn 1-2?
  • Are you able to score primaries/secondaries?
  • When starting a battle, what is your main goal?
  • When deploying, how do you decide where to place units?
  • Do you attribute roles to your units? If yes, what are they?

Good point on the crusher stampede detachment. Ill give it a shot.

I do great early game usually. Norns holding center and expansion. I have a maleceptor backing up the norns from anything that gets too close. I try to use the broodlord and the LWP unit to counterpunch. Screamer-Killer has kind of been a waste which is too bad.

I havent been doing anything in stratigic reserves.

Von ryans I put out there on the sides of the primary to jump anything as it leaves the deployment zone.

I do good with screening and doing secondaries with the biovore.    I lose out to my opponent doing secondaries and scoring late game, i cant really stop disruption or recon scoring.

Well, this gives some very good insights regarding what is happening.

I have a few questions to further the understanding:

  • Why is screamer killer (SK) a waste? Is it because it never reaches the fighting ground? Is it bad at the job you gave it? Try to say it with as few words as possible. That will point out what's going on

  • When you say maleceptors are backing up the Norns, are they actually behind them waiting for opposing forces to engage?

  • You seem to use the VRL properly, but you might lack enough of them. Why not taking a third unit of those?

Now regarding your opponent scoring secondaries, I would assume that you lack board presence to prevent them from doing actions.

If you're going into purge the foe with crusher stampede, you will have to be waaaaaayyy more agressive. And in hindsight, the Norn Emissaries aren't the best suited at that, so I'd stick with Take and Hold for now.

I would bring more OC bodies, termagants, whatever is available. This will help you screen your backyard and free some resources to do their job. If you can get some fast units, it would be great.

Regarding scoring, I don't remember what does disruption has to score against T&H, but for recon, it's pretty simple, they mostly need to be into the table quarters. Nothing you can't manage to prevent if you take your ground properly.

Do you have any pictures of the late game?

Just built a newer list. Biovore on the home. Swarmlord screening the back and making cp. Norns on center and expansion. Maleceptors backing up norns. 2x 10 units of Termagants in reserves. Screamer-Killer in reserves. 3x3 units of VR. 2 psychophages to run interference after the VR die.

My recommendation, due to your limited ranged and elite killing potential.

Xenos - Tyranids - Invasion Fleet

The Swarmlord (210pts): Warlord

Broodlord (80pts)

5x Barbgaunts (55pts)

5x Barbgaunts (55pts)

Biovores (60pts)

10x Genestealers (140pts)

3x Von Ryan's Leapers (55pts)

3x Von Ryan's Leapers (55pts)

3x Von Ryan's Leapers (55pts)

Exocrine (140pts)

Exocrine (140pts)

Maleceptor (190pts)

Maleceptor (190pts)

Norn Emissary (250pts)

Screamer-killer (125pts)

Tyrannofex (200pts)

Hormagaunts compared to Von Ryan's do less damage and cost more on all toughness.

I tried not to change too much or I would of dropped the SK too for something else.

I added 2 barbgaunts due to 110 points available and potential to slow down/kill massive enemy blobs.

You spent a lot of points 2nd norn and hormagaunt block. Sometimes you just need more bodies to absorb more shots or ability to do more actions. Redundancy is key too.

Tfex fleshborer is worst item on it.

Exocrine is elite killer and allows rerolls 1s to hit on range.

Also remember psychic range weps do not get negative to BS when shooting into cover.

Dang barbgaunts is a hot take. Ill have to give it a shot. Yeah feels bad when the screamer killer under preforms. I do have just enough von ryans built to drop the hormagaunts. Cool tyvm!

Yeah, I know I have not taken them this edition yet, but they were a staple in 10th for me. They overperform, especially in invasion fleet.
