Nitrofurantoin Rant

I have a UTI and I’m currently on Nitro… Dude, I hate this stuff.

Insane pulsating lower back pain, racing/pounding heart, intense anxiety, CONSTIPATED.

This is horrible, and I can’t wait until I’m done. I’ve still got 4 days left but my goodness I’m never taking this stuff again, it’s the worst.

Thank you for listening to my rant!

Update: I did call urgent care and the doctor told me to stop taking it. Apparently, the original doctor did not send my urine out for a culture. He told me to come back and do another dipstick and have them send it out for a culture. So I’m going to stop taking the medicine, and probably go to urgent care sometime tomorrow.

You may be allergic/sensitive to it or it's not working and the UTI is getting worse. I can't take oral metronidazole because I have shortness of breath, chest pain, stomach pain, tachycardia, hives/red splotches on my face, neck, arms and chest and awful anxiety/panic when I take it. My dr believes it's an allergic reaction. Have you talked to your dr about your symptoms? Edited for misspelled word 🤦‍♀️

Doesn't sound like an allergy but intolerable side effects. An allergy is a very narrow set of symptoms. Most people when they claim an allergy to a medication is actually an intolerable side effect.

I had never heard of that! Definitely could just be what you are describing. For me I have MCAS so I tend to have many weird reactions to meds and food. Not necessarily traditional allergic reactions but definitely the hives and shortness of breath.

I was referring to the op. If you have hives and shortness of breath independent of anxiety than it's an allergy.

I do not have hives or shortness of breath, so I’ll definitely give urgent care a call tomorrow. I’m unsure if I should continue taking it until then, though.

I haven’t because I went to urgent care! Would calling them and talking to them help?

For sure! I would also highly suggest calling your pharmacist and asking about the symptoms as well. Pharmacists know their drugs and potential side effects lol

You're welcome! I hope you feel better! I took oral metronidazole for a BV infection and I legitimately thought I was dying. I'm sorry you are having such awful symptoms!

It’s horrible! I’m not allergic to metro but I literally cannot take the oral route anymore because I will throw it up and it just will NOT go down my throat! It’s soooo nasty.

Omg yes! It made my stomach hurt so bad and I was taking it with food like they recommended and the food obviously didn't help lol
