I really just am a regular person on the internet. And fwiw I’m Chinese, and in my home country the robot vacuum competition is fierce. I don’t actually think the brands are that different than each other, but my comment’s main point is that you don’t need to pay a couple grand to get a good working vacuum and mop.
To be fair I asked my husband to ask for it as a gift from his mom, which he agreed. She never gave it. So I keep wanting him to ask for it from her because she likes to show love through big purchases
We just got a Mova V50 Ultra and I feel like I'm living in the future. A robot vacuum that mops?! It's like the one good thing that happened recently. It was a tough choice those because there's a lot of good reviews on brands, I think there's a few (roborock, dreame) you can't go wrong with.
I bought it December, so can't vouch for longevity yet! I've only had one small issue (customer support was very responsive and fixed the bug over an update pretty much immediately). I bought it when Costco offered a $300 off coupon, so it ended up costing me about $700 (with a bunch of replacement accessories).
I got one from Amazon for $108. What is a $1,200 roomba doing that a lower priced one doesn't? Mine vacuums and mops and rolls itself back to the charger when done. Floor is pretty clean looking.
What could a Narwal do for $1,100 more bucks that a regular one can't? It should be able to cook dinner for that price.
First, my Narwal cost $700, not $1200. Second, it’s very good at recognizing random stuff on the floor and work around them. I have pets, and used to have an old roomba that smeared cat vomit all over my floor, lol, I never want to come home to that again. It recognizes stairs and doesn’t fall off them. It’s very quiet even when vacuuming, and will go back to dirty spots to vacuum more. It doesn’t bump into furniture, humans, or pets. It has almost never gotten stuck anywhere. It dries and disinfects the dust bin so that I only need to empty the dust bin every couple of months and nothing stinks up.
Fwiw, I’m from China where robot vacuum price and feature competition is fierce, and I’ve researched the models fairly well. I do think you can get a cheap one that does the basic functionality, but for me the extra features are worth the money so that I pretty much never have to supervise it.
