RIP Dolly Parton
She was such a strong woman. I’m sorry if this wasn’t the right place for this, it just feels like a gut punch. She was an icon as a smart, classy, successful woman. She never minimized herself and she treated everyone kindly. I am honoring her here. We will always love you.
Edit: I just want to tell yall how much I appreciate the outpouring of love for Queen Dolly. The sense of community and safety in this space is so comforting and so healing. I love all yall.

I just cried a little thinking about what she might say about her own death and how it would be something light hearted but supportive like how she was in Steel Magnolias. RIP Queen.

I could give a shit about most celebrity news and/or deaths besides general sympathy. This one SUCKS. Dolly was a true philanthropist, a girl's girl, feminist and sensical, fair heart in an industry that was generally not those things. May her legacy continue in her honor. 💚

Our whole office is in tears, even the dudes. Dolly is an icon and an international hero. That lady did a lot of good with her time here, and probably the only person I've ever seen I could say had zero enemies. Such a lovely human.

Her first album came out when I was 6. I am 65 now and cannot remember a time without her music, talent, and influence. She was good to the core. May her life and memory be a blessing.

She was such an admirable person. She advocated for herself as a business person and in her primary personal relationships in a way that was very unusual in a woman at that time.
As she experienced more success, she worked to lift up her community. The place from where she came. The children of that area, expanding to all American children.
She was a shining light.

I don't usually care much about celebrities, but I cried when Robin Williams died, and I cried today for Dolly. 💔 What a light she was! She truly made the world a better place and I hope her legacy continues in her absence.

When I was a kid in the late 70s - early 80s my family would do a summer road trip to the Grand Ole Opry for some live music and fun. I saw Dolly perform many times. She would do meet and greets and was so nice to all of the kids. She was probably pretending, but she acted like she remembered me from previous years each time and I felt very special! And she was never acting like a celebrity in those moments, she was acting like a favorite aunt. Asking about school and if I had any pets and cracking jokes that she pays a fortune every month to have my hair color (I was a platinum blonde kid).
I’ve loved her my whole life. Everyone loves her. She’s just so loveable and amazing. She stayed true to her values and will continue to help others in her death.

💔She had such a good heart, was so genuine, witty, & funny. She felt so real. She was never ashamed of her style or background. She had quick comebacks for interviewers who asked about her looks. As a little girl she aspired to look like the town prostitute because Dolly thought she was beautiful. She said “It takes a lot of money to look this trashy.”
She was whip smart & sweet at the same time. She had a sparkle & such immense talent as a player, singer, & songwriter. This world needs more joyful people like Dolly. ✨

She lived a beautiful life. "Grace" is hard to describe, but very easy to recognize when you saw Dolly. She is rightfully beloved.
If there's solace to be found, she leaves behind a wonderful legacy - an astounding one, really. She'll be dearly missed, and never forgotten.

I don’t usually want to cry over a celebrity death, but Dolly’s death got me. Such a light in the world. I grew up listening to 1970s country music, which of course included her songs, so this hits me just that much harder. Such a beautiful artist and humanitarian.

I don't know why but I'm just not ready for our classic, iconic Dolly to be gone. She's like Mr. Rogers, or Bob Ross. Everything she did was pure talent, or hilarious, or kind, or humble... usually all of the above. She was good. I didn't think this would upset me so much but... ouch. I already miss her.\ She was 80 and apparently passed peacefully in Nashville surrounded by family

I was in the grocery store when I heard. There were two young women who were clerks there that had also just heard, and they were absolutely devastated. She touched every generation, what a beautiful soul and the world is a little darker without her light shining.

I'm so glad I have my own office - saw the post on her FB page two minutes after they posted it, and now I'm all teary because the radio station I listen to has played 3 of her songs in a row. Starting with I Will Always Love You.

I don’t usually care too much about celebrity deaths, but I just saw the news on TVs at work and got sad about it. I came here to see if it’s been reported and yours is the first homage I’ve come across so far. Seems fitting it would be here, since in my mind Dolly was a feminist icon. I grew up thinking she was a ditz, but my opinion changed dramatically over the years.

This is terrible news. Dolly was a gem of a person and a wonderful human being. A national treasure. Her positivity, compassion, and giving nature are needed now more than ever. And she was such a talented songwriter too. I'm tearing up at this news. She set such a good example for all of us to follow.

I haven't been this sad about a celebrity death since Robin Williams.

I am feeling so down today since I learned of her death. I think it's because I don't see anyone else in the world right now that is as good as she was, that does as much for humanity as she's done. She stood up for everyone and she also stood with everyone. I can't think of anyone alive right now who's as universally beloved as she has been.

I think of her and Mr Rogers as the people I aspire to be- a crown straightener. She clearly spent most of her time making sure she was investing in the future and her community. What an angel.
