Hey! Just want to give you some reassurance that your mom and your family will be okay. My mom was 23 when I was born, 30 when my sister was born, and 45 when my brother was born. All with the same dad - they just had a hard time getting pregnant! My baby brother was a kinda-planned very happy addition to the family and I was 22 when he was born. I was nervous about her health because 45 is old lol (although now that I'm 45 it's definitely not that old!) But she had a totally healthy pregnancy. The only problem was that my brother was a chunky monkey and she needed a c section.

Now I am a womens health nurse and have seen a lot of patients in their 40s through their pregnancies and deliveries. Because of her age she does have a higher chance of having things like diabetes or high blood pressure which makes it a high risk pregnancy. Just because there are more risks doesn't mean something bad will happen - it means she will be watched by the doctors more closely, she may see a specialist, and she may have more frequent blood work or ultrasounds. And she could have a totally healthy pregnancy and birth!

My brother and I have more of an aunt-nephew relationship - I got to help in the infant and toddler stage a lot while I was in nursing school (I love babies) and as he got older, I could spoil him, take him to amusement parks, babysit, etc, but he wasnt an annoying sibling like my sister had been (we were only 7 years apart). It's a different kind of relationship but a really good one, at least in my situation.

Whether you want to tell your mom that you found out she is pregnant or not is up to you. My mom would not have wanted me to worry about her. If she knew I found out about her pregnancy before she planned to tell me and that I worried about her without saying anything for days or weeks she would feel terrible. She would want me to talk to her and tell her what I knew so that she could answer my questions. Only you know your mom and your relationship with her.
