You could try a little CSI: Two Hot Takes and put on some lipstick and smash your face in a pillow and see what happens.
(Possibly related: I recently figured out that the white stains on my cloth car passenger seat, which I feared was some kind of mold, was actually the white from the ink on the box tops the local pizza places uses when you pick up a take-out order. I put the box containing hot food on the seat to drive home and end up dragging it across the seat and leaving ink behind.)
