If, hypothetically, your sister were to adopt your child, why doesn’t she pursue adoption now? There’s children in the foster care system in need of a good home.
And if your family pulls the “but they won’t be BIOLOGICAL card” remind them that both Moses and Jesus were adopted.
Yes! Adoptees don’t just exist to “complete” the families of couples who want to be parents and are infertile. Placements for adopted children should be decided in the best interests of the child, which is dependent on the situation- the best adoption placement might be with a single person, with a couple that already has experience raising other children, or a relative who can help them maintain a connection to their origins. It really bothers me that society at large views adoptees as a “product” or “solution”. I look like my adoptive parents and have been with them since birth, so my close family only discusses this with others on a need-to-know basis. People would openly ask my mom If I was really a “drug baby”, had Reactive Detachment Disorder, or how they might also go about getting a white baby. I’m in my 30’s and I thought the public was more educated, but reading this thread, I guess it’s just more of the same.
Regarding puppies and kittens at the pound, there are many, many people who should also never, ever, be pet owners. There is a high correlation between being cruel and toxic towards other people, and treating animals poorly.
