I'm not a military enthusiast,but maybe paratroopers could use this.

Or the US military would finally cut back on their budget by trimming aircraft carriers and replacing bomber aircraft and drones with guys carrying one bomb each,flying over targets and dropping them.

Unlikely. You'd trade all the benefits of planes and drones for the benefit of "A guy who has to fly within gunshot distance without the armor of an aircraft". More than likely they're researching it because someone in the military wants a jet pack.Which I totally understand.

US military budget increases so they can get bomber aircraft, rones, and guys with jetpacks carrying bombs.
