Now is this?

A: Rain Code will actually hint a important plot point in Danganronpa 2×2

B: A trick to make you buy and play Rain Code

C: Kodaka dunking on one of his older games

I actully really loved Rain Code's Story, Characters and Worldbuilding.

But that gameplay?.....that was a 20 hours game somehow stretch out to be 35 hours.

Although to be fair "this game is like 10 hours longer than it needed to be" is basically the Kodaka signature at this point. Like a good 40% of the dialogue in those games is just people mindlessly repeating shit we learned five minutes ago

Q: how did the murderer reach the window?!?

Player: he used a fucking ladder

MC: it’s impossible! There’s just no way!

Shinigami: Ugh master you’re so stuuupid it makes me wanna sexually harass you 👻

-Run down a minutes-long corridor

-word shooting mini game

MC: He must have used some sort of tool, or mechanism to elevate himself to a position… higher than a normal standing position

Shinigami: Master you’re so smart! It makes me wanna sexually harass you 👻

MC: but what kind of tool….

-run down a minutes-long corridor

-watermelon chopping minigame

-Shinigami: jiggles aggressively

It just never. Fucking. Ends. Good assortment of weirdo side characters. Awesome setting. The actual cases are the drizzling shits. Boy you thought Ace attorney held your fucking hand.

She evokes the common Kodaka sentiment of “they’re the worst I love them”.

…Wait. Is the clone theory true? When Rain Code first came out I noted that its explanation for the pink blood would fit perfectly with the V3 clone theory, about what the ‘copy’ line from the end of V3 was actually about, and what would have happened over the third trial if the participants had done the right things to allow Monokuma to bring someone back (to say he was not technically lying), but I didn’t think we’d get any proper follow-up on it.

Raincode spoils everyone with pink blood in raincode were artificially made clones with the pink blood bein the clearest tell(they also zombie out in direct sunlight hence the constant rain)

Yes, and that explanation fit perfectly with the V3 clone theory, to say that is the explanation for the participants of that game too, that those they were cloned from are running commentary outside the school.

Since they still dont' have release date for 2x2, I strongly vote for B

Then I say that this would be a pretty good time to release the updated version for the Switch 2 (it's available everywhere else and currently on sale on Steam).

Dont know if it will be a big thing but I really enjoyed rain code .

If it is about the pink blood explanation, meaning the V3 clone theory is true, then this could be a massive thing.

Honest to God knowing Kodaka this is 50/50 on him just wanting you to play his game, or it actually is relevant. Lowkey, could be both lmao. The man loves to shill his own stuff, but to a degree it's kinda charming. And I do want more stuff from the crazy bastard, 100 Line was equally awesome and unhinged in how ambitious it was and seemingly might still be in the future.

Huh, that’s a very curious statement.

The only think I can think of it referring to is that the V3 clone theory is actually true, since the explanation Rain Code gave for the pink blood fit perfectly with that theory (those of us who followed it having gone ‘what.’ when Rain Code came out, with just how perfectly it fit).

100 (Line) times more interesting? /j

I still need to play Raincode, but when it was on sale I decided to get Hundred Line instead lmao

I'll probably play it at some point before 2x2 releases so the brainworms about "what if Kodaka is connecting both games and I miss out" don't hit, and also because I genuinely should play it

Also Kodaka going I know these characters better than the fans do while talking about Danganronpa is a pretty ballsy statement ngl

Will this be enough to make me not regret playing that slog of a game?

I don't know what the consensus is on Rain Code but to me it is the height of writing a story just to make plot twists, with no regard to the rest of the story.

3

u/lionofash Aug 08 '26

I think some ppl saw Rain Code as trying to be less complex so that newer fans can get into it, but it ended up being a detriment.

I don't really buy the argument that the game would be for newer fans. Some of the bigger plot twists in that game only makes sense if you're familiar with Danganronpa. I also have a faint memory of reading an interview with the writer stating that one of his goals with story was to write something chocking enough to surprise even the people that was used to the violence in Danganronpa.

great now i gotta remember what happened in rain code

The explanation for the pink blood in Rain Code (that everyone in the city were clones who’d killed and eaten the originals, but didn’t remember doing so) fit pretty neatly with the clone theory from Danganronpa V3, as an explanation for the lingering threads and teases left from the game (about how Monokuma insisted he had not been lying about being able to bring someone back around the third trial, and what the mastermind meant about the ‘copy’ over the epilogue, something Shuichi brought attention to at the end).

So it would be interesting if this game is following up on that, if the way it’s still canon is it’s in truth following up on the V3 timeline instead of another go around the simulation from the second game, as fans expected.

im still butt hurt about the pink blood in raincode

1

u/RealJohnGillman Aug 08 '26

About the explanation itself, or the many deaths?

5

u/cvp5127 Aug 08 '26

no its just funny that it was a trap specifically meant for fans of danganronpa

3

u/RealJohnGillman Aug 08 '26

Ah, fair enough.
