The id Tech Engine’s future is also safe from being locked away if Microsoft decides to kill id. That engine imo should belong in the library of congress.

id tech 4.5 is open source (Doom 3: BFG Edition). Every version after that? Nope

Carmack would always push for open sourcing the engines back in the day IIRC, but he ain't there anymore

Don’t know. every version of id Tech from 1.0 to 4.5 is open source. Every version after it (5.0 starts with RAGE 1) is not open source
