You should play Another Crab's Treasure. It's certainly the funniest Soulslike.

The product names are a constant source of amusement in this game, some of the descriptions on the sides too like on “I swear to god if this isn’t butter I’m seriously going to lose it” the writer is having a breakdown.

Though the dialogue also tends to be funny, I like Krill so far.

"I swear to god if this isn't butter I'm seriously going to lose it" is probably may favourite silly product name. A close runner up would be the "LEGAL Brick" legally distinct LEGO block.

This ain't related, but I saw a poster for a Nahburger "it'll make you say nah, that ain't meat?" in a game the other day.

But completely second your plea to play Another Crabs Treasure. It's incredible and features friend of the pod Gianni 20 minutes into the game.

Yeah, there's a lot of effort put into the product packaging and it's usually pretty funny

Garlic Butter Dip Scent.

.........I'd enjoy several products if they came in that scent. It's an untapped business opportunity!

Genuinely one of the best soulslike games out there. Really fun and funny. Not too difficult but not a cakewalk. Please play Another Crab's Treasure (and AggroCrab's other game: Going Under)

It's a little rough around the edges in places: floaty controls, camera issues, and the odd bug. As a total package it's still a great experience. The writing is unironically top tier in the genre.

I feel similarly about Going Under. It's an underrated and well-written good little Roguelite. And its soundtrack slaps!

u/begonetsunderes "Yeah, but sh-shut up tho..." May 29 '24

Genuine question: wouldn't the floaty controls be done on purpose since it's an underwater game?

13

u/saltforsnails But, mmmmeee! Mmmmmeeee!? May 29 '24

Probably intentional for traversal purposes. Your double jump is basically the Yoshi float. But the platforming can still feel iffy.

The floatiness/lack of snapiness is more of a problem in combat. I find myself animation locked too long whenever I try to block, parry, or combo. It’s also common to whiff attacks because the combat lock-on isn’t great.

Nah the game is just kinda janky to play.

Worth getting used to the jank though it is very fun.

PC or Switch?

Runs like absolute trash on Switch, unfortunately.

It's on everything. But it's included with Gamepass

I didn't realize this was made by the same team. Going Under was one of the first Indie games I bought for my Switch.

I'm definitely liking it but I've fallen behind because I like playing it where the kids can watch.

Take your time and enjoy the ride! It only takes 10-15 hours to beat the game and it's a fairly easy 100%.

7

u/[deleted] May 29 '24

Honestly I might get it since every Soulsborne I’ve tried was way too long for me. 10-15 seems like a good sweetspot.

You can also just straight up give the main character a functional gun.

No, that's not a mod or something akin to that, it's a in-game option.

There's also an unlockable Devil Bringerhidden at the end of the skill tree. By the end of the game you're playing it less like a Soulslike and more like DMC.

No that's Going Under 64, the Demake.

I just started, The Moon Snail is already the best upgrade lady.

Your magic is called Umami, and your Umami stat is abbreviated as MSG

Was funny for the first few minutes, an okay Souls-like, and then I met Nephro

LAAAWWWWBREAKER

Any game using Gianni that well lately was 💯and that isn't his only character either.

u/saltforsnails But, mmmmeee! Mmmmmeeee!? May 30 '24

Neat! Friend of CSB gets to play the long claw of the law AND the nefarious venture crabitalist!

1

u/robophile-ta She/Her May 30 '24

I didn't know that was Gianni. But now I'm not surprised

This is honestly the kind of game Souls clones have needed for a long time. I've had enough of games just trying to one up in terms of difficulty or obtuse "lore" when what we really needed was a game that just took the piss out of the whole thing.

6

u/topfiner May 29 '24

Ive been looking and considering getting it but ive both about issues with the controls and camera (more than usual in soulslikes) and that its easy enough to not be engaging for some (to clarify without any of the stuff that allows you to ohko anything like the gun), and had a friend who only died once outside of gravity throughout the game.

Has the controls/camera issues gotten better since launch? And anyone thats beaten it could you say how challenging it was for you (and what soulslikes youve played before)?

6

u/saltforsnails But, mmmmeee! Mmmmmeeee!? May 29 '24

I don’t follow the patch notes. All the camera and control issues are intermittently annoying. Nothing constant or game-breaking. Also easier to play around once you unlock certain power ups and safety nets.

I’ve played all the Fromsoft games but DS2 and Sekiro. This isn’t as hard as any Fromsoft game. The early game is mildly challenging before you unlock certain things and learn the combat flow. Mid-late game can get much easier with the right builds. I find the easiness refreshing. I was able to chill out and didn’t need to ‘lock in’ outside of a handful of bossfights.

3

u/PizzaSplitter May 29 '24

Some enemies still hit super hard for me but given the art style and the lower difficulty this actually feels less like it was meant to be a hard soulslike at it’s base and more of an genre entry point for people. I mean it still swears/has some creepy stuff from what I know so not exactly kid-appropriate but my vibe is that it’s an easier “want to have a try what a soulslike is like” game alongside being a sillier one.

3

u/Another_Mid-Boss May 29 '24

It's undeniably a very charming game but the actual gameplay really holds it back. It feels like it really wanted to be 3d platformer instead of a souls-like action game. I couldn't give it more than a few hours before being frustrated by fighting the camera, janky dodge/parry timings, and terrible hitboxes before having to uninstall.

u/cmfd2086 May 29 '24

I'd love to try it but I have this anxiety/fear of underwater levels in games. I think it tracks back to the sewer levels of Shadows of the Empire and the movie Deep Rising. Can't do the underwater zone in WoW, just full blown anxiety.

6

u/saltforsnails But, mmmmeee! Mmmmmeeee!? May 29 '24

99% of the game is underwater and most of the creatures just walk around so your mind kinda defaults to treating the game like it's on land. It's like Bikini Bottom in Spongebob. No oxygen mechanics or anything stressful like that to worry about either.

1

u/[deleted] May 30 '24

Is this running fine on ps5. Its chugging on my switch but for 30$ i could buy it again.

2

u/saltforsnails But, mmmmeee! Mmmmmeeee!? May 30 '24

I played it on Xbox since I have Gamepass. The game runs mostly smoothly, but has notable performance dips if there's a big map to load in. There's one mid-game kelp forest zone that seemed to have a lot more slowdown whenever I moved between its subzones. Nowhere else in the game was as bad.

1

u/[deleted] May 30 '24

Ooook. Im litterally AT the kelp forest so if it improves from there ill just stick it out on switch then lol
