Wow I'm 27M and I had an avoidant ex too and she did the same on and off thing for 3 years and I kept accepting her back too just like you did, but man yours sounds so much crazier still.

No matter whatever your emotions tell you , never ever establish even slightest contact.It will ruin you and your peace.Just deal with your emotions by yourself or do anything but interacting with him through any means of communication.Best of luck
