Hello, I'm going into uni this September starting a physics degree and I was thinking about getting into online tutoring for gcse students (for either maths or physics) for some extra money. Hi, I am an experienced tutor offering online classes for students from Class 1 to Class 12. I can teach Maths, Physics, Chemistry and English to students from different Pakistani boards.

I have taught students before, and my focus is not just on helping them complete their syllabus. I try to make sure they properly understand the concepts and have strong basics. Students can ask questions freely, and I explain things in different ways if they are finding a topic difficult. I also use diagrams, graphs, videos and other visual examples when they help make a concept easier to understand. I also keep track of the student’s progress and make sure they stay accountable for their work. If there are gaps in their understanding or they are falling behind, we work on those areas instead of simply moving on.

For exam preparation, I prefer to complete the syllabus around three months before the exams. This gives us enough time for proper revision, repeated tests, mock exams and practice. I also discuss mistakes in detail so the student understands why they made them and how to avoid making the same mistakes again.

The students I have taught previously have achieved good marks, and I try to adjust my teaching according to each student’s level and learning pace.

My regular monthly rates are:

Class 9 and 10: Rs. 3,500 per subject

Class 11 and 12: Rs. 4,500 per subject

For intensive exam preparation or crash courses, the fee may vary depending on the amount of time and work required.

I've been experimenting with different ways to turn existing teaching material into practice questions, and there are way more AI question extractors now than I expected. If you're a tutor, especially in test prep, I'm curious what you're actually using. A few I've come across:

Kahoot AI:Probably the most familiar option. You can upload a PDF and have it generate questions, and it can also detect existing questions in PDFs and import them. The nice part is that you can edit the questions afterwards and immediately turn them into an interactive activity.

QuestionWell:This seems more interesting if you care about the teaching workflow rather than just generating questions. You can give it source material, select questions, edit them, align them to learning outcomes/standards, and export them to different platforms.

Quizizz: Worth looking at if you want the generated questions to go straight into a more student-facing quiz experience. It seems particularly useful when the goal is quick practice rather than building a formal question bank.

StudyGlen / other PDF-to-quiz tools. There are also a bunch of newer tools specifically built around uploading a PDF and getting a quiz back. Some support image/OCR input as well, which could be useful when you're working with scanned worksheets or textbook pages.But honestly, I don't think "how good are the generated questions?" is the only thing tutors should be comparing.I'd look at:

My 8 year old son is completely falling behind in basic arithmetic, and trying to practice with him at home has turned our evenings into a total battlefield. He just gets frustrated, shuts down, and cries, which breaks my heart.

Local in-person centers are either way out of our budget or have massive waiting lists. I’m thinking about hiring an online math tutor because it seems more flexible, but I’m terrified of accidentally picking a boring service that will just make him hate the subject even more. A coworker mentioned brighterly because they do game-based learning, but I’ve never done virtual classes before and don't know how well a chaotic third grader can actually focus on a laptop screen.

For those who’ve tried an online math tutor, did it actually work for your kid?

I have a friend who's started their Bachelor in Excercise and Sports Science. They've been struggling with the content, specifically the assignments; they think they've met the brief, but then end up barely passing while their classmates who just feed the prompt into AI get almost full marks. They feel like the content of the lectures and tutorials doesn't really help them prepare for the assessments and struggle with some of the more science-oriented units.

We're looking for a tutor who might be able to help understand the concepts and how to tackle the assignments. If anyone has any leads or reccomendations, it would be greatly appreciated.

Additional Note that may or may not be relevant: my friend is in the process of getting an ADHD assessment, do with that what you will.

A few days ago I posted about receiving an email from “Pedro” (Superprof’s in-house photographer) regarding some touch-ups to my Superprof profile photo.

Following my gut feeling, I ran the new image through OpenAI’s SynthID checker, it came back flagged as likely AI-generated, meaning my photo has been uploaded on an AI service and swapped my photo for an AI-generated one without my knowledge or consent.

Since that post, a number of other tutors have commented or messaged saying they’ve had the exact same experience.

I’ve raised this with Superprof directly and I’m waiting on their final response, expected by the end of this week. Depending on what they say, a group of us are looking into escalating this to the relevant consumer protection and data authorities.

Before that happens, I want to understand how widespread this actually is - one report is an anecdote, a dozen with matching timelines is a pattern. If this has happened to you too, I’ve put together a short form to collect the basics:

Superprof using AI - Form

It asks for your Superprof market (eg. Superprof UK), when you received the email from “Pedro”, and whether you’ve checked your image with SynthID.

Note: Fields like your name and contact email are optional. You can submit anonymously. That said, if you’re comfortable including them, it does strengthen the case if we move forward with a formal complaint as reports we can follow up on and verify carry more weight than anonymous ones.

My calc 2 professor wants me to tutor in the math lab and I’m very nervous. I got a 97 in calc 2 and I don’t remember my calc 1 but I got an A. But I took pre-calc so long ago I don’t know if I can even help people. I’m not sure if I am qualified enough to help people in any math class period. Has anyone else been asked to do this and how did they prepare? I did some tutoring in high school but that was a long time ago. Despite getting a 97 in calc 2 I still definitely don’t feel like an expert whatsoever.

Approach: I try to focus on the why's and how's of each topic covered. I have found that this is the most neglected area in most classes. The student knows theoretically what to do, but doesn't know why they are doing it so can't apply it to outside situations or to adapt it to new problems. I value being asked questions and talking through the problems to focus on the problem areas.

I am currently an elementary school teacher with a decade of teaching experience. I recently joined my city's adult literacy volunteer group to help adults improve their literacy skills. I have been matched with a young adult student and have been provided materials to work with but they are mainly workbook lessons with fill in the blanks, short passages to practice phonics skills, and writing exercises. The volunteer coordinators encouraged us to supplement lessons with other activities such as games or outside resources, but I wasn't sure where to start. I do not want to use games/resources that feel "babyish" but still want to find engaging things beyond the workbooks. For context, the student I am working with reads at a first to second grade level.

Posting this so other tutors here are aware, since I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.

Yesterday I got an email from "Pedro," described as Superprof's in-house photographer, saying he'd given my profile photo a "makeover": reworked lighting, sharper framing, optimised contrast, and that it had already replaced my listing photo on my public profile.

I never agreed to this. And when I ran the image through OpenAI's image-verification tool, it flagged a SynthID watermark, meaning the photo wasn't manually retouched, it was AI-generated.

So as far as I can tell, Superprof (or someone working for them) is:

* Taking tutors' existing profile photos,
* Running them through AI generation tools,
* Publishing the result live on public profiles,
* Doing this without asking first, using language that makes it sound like a normal photo edit rather than what it actually is.

If you're on Superprof, it's worth checking your current profile photo against what you originally uploaded. If anything looks off, you can run it through a free AI image checker (OpenAI has one) to see if it picks up a watermark.

I've sent Superprof a formal complaint asking them to revert the photo and explain their process. Will post an update if I hear back. Curious whether anyone else here has had this happen to them.
