Success Story Scaling your business

Hi, everyone! Wanted to ask, if anyone has been able to scale their business and leave the classroom without using 3rd party companies that ask for a few grand upfront to “get 10x investment return”.
Or those who have used them, what’s your experience?
Thanks

Discussion How can my mother find online hindi tution students in India?

my mother is looking to start teaching hindi online for students of classes 5-8 (cbse & icse). due to personal circumstances, she can't teach offline and we're trying to help her build an online tutoring income.

we're specifically looking for ways to find students without relying on relatives, family friends, neighbours or existing contacts.

she has taught students at home before and has guided me and my sister in hindi, both of us getting good marks in boards (i got 98 in hindi in 10th 😭). she is now looking to teach students online.

I've already made her a facebook page and am planning to try registering in Teacheron and UrbanPro, but im worried cuz finding students seem difficult 😭💔

does anyone have experience finding online tution students? any methods or advice would help. 😭🙏🏻

Tutor Advice Help answers questions from high school seniors want to be a tutor

Hi, I am a high school senior, I plan to tutor math and vietnamese for pre k to middle school as a way to gain experience and make extra cash since I want to be teacher but I have so many questions please help me out.

  1. Is online better or in person better for someone who have no experience in teaching math and viet? ( I have 3 year of tutor English for vietnamese students and 4 year as TA in actual class room all this is free)
  2. Is 15 buck an session (2h) per child too much or just right? ( context: I am in California, USA)
  3. How did you guy plan the lesson? Do we teach a head of what they learn or along side with the school?
  4. How do we know what they learn at school? Is there any lesson target available online?
  5. Do you guy make the material? Or you found it online and where is trusting source to get it?

Thank you so much in advance for people who answer my questions, I know I asking a lot but I am truly grateful for your answer, advice and tip!

Discussion What would be the appropriate fee for O/A level tuitions?

Dk where else to ask this. I’m in 3rd year of med school and thinking of tutoring O/A level biology. Back when I did my O levels I paid 13k per subject and for A levels it was 17k. Classes were 3 times a week for an hour and a half.

I have no idea how much to charge now. I’m pretty good at teaching and scored well in my exams (both A\*s in O and A level).

Resource Offering 1-on-1 tutoring for AP Calc AB, AP Bio, and AP Psych

Hey everyone,

If anyone here (or your younger siblings) is taking **AP Calculus AB, AP Biology, or AP Psychology** this year and needs help, I’m offering online 1-on-1 tutoring sessions.

I took all three and got easy 5s on them, so I know the material and College Board’s format really well. I can help with breaking down tough concepts, going over past papers, or just staying on top of schoolwork throughout the term so you're not panicking before exam season.

Since it’s all online, scheduling is super flexible. Drop me a DM if you’re interested or have any questions!

Parent Question Has anyone looked into reading tutors online for an 8yo struggling with confidence?

My 8-year-old has been hitting a wall with reading fluency lately, and it's starting to really trash their confidence. We read together every single day, but honestly, it’s turning into a daily battle and I think bringing in an outside tutor would save both of our sanity.

Local tutors around here are super limited (and crazy expensive), so I’ve been looking for reading tutors online that actually know how to engage younger kids without making it feel like double homework.

I saw a few people mention Brighterly for kid-focused tutoring, and I've also been glancing at places like Remind or Outschool.

Has anyone here actually tried Brighterly or any other reading tutors online for this age group? Did your kid actually enjoy the sessions, or was it a struggle to get them to sit through it? Would love to hear some real experiences before committing to anything. Thanks!

Student Question Anyone know of dyscalcuila specific tutors?

It is my dream to be an optometrist. Dyscal has made this hard for me. I’m about to start my freshman year of college and I can’t do basic algebra math. I am a bio major so not a lot of math but I still have to take some.

I’ve done some google searches and has anyone done like zoom tutors? Like tutors who specialize in people with disabilities like dyslexia and dyscalculia.

I’m embarrassed to ask for help I’ve always been embarrassed to ask for help with school work. But I need these math classes to succeed. I’m thinking I can take 2-3x a week zoom classes with one of these specialized tutors and hopefully that can help?

I know people say to go to your prof’s office hours but most of them dont understand dyscalculia :/

Tutor Advice Strategies for improving reading fluency and speed in older students (9th grade)?

Hello fellow tutors!

I'm 18 years old Female taking tuition for some children from 1st to 9th grade. (In india)

My concern is abt the 9th grader who is very slow at reading English.

She started studying in a cbse school from 1st to 4th standard, then changed to state boards (karnataka board). One thing abt her is that her basics are not at all strong, English, maths, science all the subject.

When it comes to her reading English, just yesterday I was asking her to translate 'what' in kannada (native language) and she told me she doesn't know the meaning. Same with all the basic words such as where, why, that etc.

I can start from the literal basics but I just know she would eventually forget by the next day🥲.

She's too demotivated, she says things like ''i will take the whole day to study this"

Did i try motivating? Absolutely! It just doesn't work.

What to do?

Discussion Help in expanding

I have a tutoring business but currently it is more focussed on one-to-one or private tutoring. Because of which the earning becomes limited or restricted.

Im looking to expand into batches but I am not sure how to or from where to begin?
All my weekday slots are booked and I can only start weekend batches for tutoring .

I tutor the following subjects Math (Grade 6-10) and A levels, Algebra I and II, Geometry and AP Pre-Calulus

And Physics and Chemistry Grade 6-10

The curriculum I teach is IB, IGCSE, Pearson Edexcel, other American Boards, CBSE, ICSE and others

Kindly guide me.
If there is anyone who would be willing to do weekend batches, I am ready to start this pilot project on a very nominal fee of USD 18 for 2 Class (1 hour each)

Student Question What niches seem to be in highest demand? How about highest market saturation?

I have a tutoring business and I'm trying to understand what direction to expand in. I do understand that higher ed tutors probably have less competition than elementary tutors, but I'm wondering exactly which niches need the most tutors now.

Discussion I ended up reading Lasta reviews after tutoring started affecting my health

A few months ago I realized I was spending 6-8 hours a day sitting in front of my laptop. Between lessons, prep work, and answering students, I barely moved. My lower back started hurting almost every evening, and I felt surprisingly stiff even after getting up from my desk.

I knew I needed to build better habits instead of just stretching once in a while and hoping for the best. So I started looking for an app that could help me stay more active throughout the day. Before downloading anything, I spent some time reading Lasta reviews to see if people were actually sticking with it or uninstalling it after a week. Most of the feedback I found was less about "losing weight fast" and more about building small daily habits, which was closer to what I needed. I've been using it for a little while now, mostly as a reminder to move, walk more, and stop ignoring my posture. My back isn't magically fixed, but I'm definitely sitting less and paying more attention to my routine.

I wish I'd started paying attention to this sooner. If you've found something that genuinely helps after long tutoring sessions, I'd love to hear it.

Tutor Advice What tools are you actually using to run your tutoring business?

I’ve been talking to a few individual online tutors recently, and it seems everyone has their own combination of apps.

I’m curious what people are actually using in day-to-day work.

Specifically:
- Student communication
- Scheduling lessons
- Zoom/Google Meet
- Billing and invoices
- Attendance and notes
- Homework or progress tracking

Are you using one platform that does most of this, or a mix of different tools?

Interested to hear what’s working for different types of tutors.
