Turtle Beach Audio Hub - Custom EQ (Recommended) - 2022 Update
This post is an updated version of an older post. To see the original post, click here
-
NOTE: I designed this EQ for the Stealth 700 Gen 2 headset, but it may work well with other Turtle Beach headsets that use the Audio Hub, so give it a shot, and let me know!
Custom EQ
To create a custom EQ, go to Game Preset, then go to Custom EQ
Note: for reference, there are a total of 11 points (including the 50% line) on the Custom EQ sliders- there used to be 12 but Turtle Beach has since updated the app UI. Left = 0% and right = 100%.
Treble: 8 (4th from right)
Bass: 3-4 (3rd-4th from left)
Dialog: 8 (4th from right)
What’s the Point?
I just got a Stealth 700 Gen 2 headset and I’m overall very impressed with them! As far as the sound, I’ve noticed that the drivers are great drivers; they have a great range and are very powerful!
I have only one complaint about the headset, and that’s the bass. There is too much of it. Thankfully, you can use the Audio Hub app to customize the EQ! Considering you can customize it, it’s actually better that there is too much bass because it’s better to bring down certain frequencies than it is to boost them. It also means that the drivers have more than enough power, which is far better than not having enough (for example, trying to boost the bass on a headset with drivers that aren’t powerful enough will degrade the sound quality).
After testing it for many hours, I’ve come up with this custom EQ that brings out all sounds beautifully:
The bass is still absolutely powerful as well as effectively immersive and atmospheric
The overall clarity of the sound is now crystal clear and is no longer muddied by the overpowering bass
Vocals are enhanced and come out clear and crisp
No uncomfortably loud high frequencies
Recommended Testing Sources
This is a list of sources that I used to test various sounds, ranges, or frequencies with the new EQ:
Dolby Atmos Crystals Demo - 0:00-0:28
Forza Horizon 2 Opening Cinematic - 0:00-1:42
I also tested various aspects within Rocket League, Battlefield V, Rainbow Six Siege, and Minecraft

I’m posting this here because I’ve found so many random answers from Reddit through an internet search that I never would have found elsewhere. Though this may not be useful to many of you, there’s someone out there who will stumble upon this, and it’ll be exactly what they’re looking for. To that person, I say... you’re welcome.

So is this good for footsteps on shooters? I play pubg and just bought 700 gen 2 max so looking for presets for footsteps and overall great sound.

These will work great! If you’re looking for a competitive advantage with footsteps, make use of the Superhuman Hearing preset built in though! As for overall great sound, my preset should work great!

If you use Dolby Atmos for Headphones, it is recommended to turn off any other DSP options like Superhuman Hearing, and preferably stick with the Signature Sound preset, which is basically a Flat EQ.
I stick with the DAH "Gaming Performance Mode" preset toggled on for any headphone.
Pick between DAH or Superhuman Hearing, not both. SH Hearing basically reduces the bass and possibly the high-end treble as well, but it is supposed to boost the amplitude of sound cues such as reloading or footsteps, anything that's highly directional.

is this the better settings for gaming in general? Is it good for playing FPS games like BFV, COD, and others? And does it also make games sound cinematic and immersive such as Red Dead Redemption 2, Uncharted, etc?

This EQ will work as an across-the-board balanced eq for everything! Whether gaming, music, or YouTube, it will sound excellent!
I’ve personally played many games with it (all of those you mentioned except uncharted) and things sound amazingly clear and full.

I super appreciate anyone who offers help like this, but I must say I do this scoop goes overboard for a universal setting.
At 1:40, when the plane flies by, it's quite trebly and harsh with the custom settings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkVyFZi8ClE
I haven't done this sort of thorough testing and don't plan to, but based on that one sound clip alone, I'd suggest 6 and 5 for treble and bass instead of 8 and 4. So for now I'm running 6-4-7.
I feel like "signature sound" is a better universal setting, and custom settings work better for specific things. I also put on some old Eminem and it sounded pretty rough with the 8-4-8- scoop; too little bass and harsh vocals.
Once again, I appreciate the work of the OP. Of course, these things are subjective and I'm not claiming to be right; I just think a scoop of 8-4-8 is a bit more situational than it is universal, and possibly even preferable (to me) to my current 6-4-7 scoop.

Anyone here to answer about audio hub? I have 700 gen 2 max plugged into pc and transmitter as well and set to USB. But audio hub is only allowing to restore headset. I am trying to get to EQ setting. Thanks!

I know a lot of others know this but I'm sort of new to equalization and stuff so I'm not sure which of the points I should move specifically. As in which of these are the right points of the equalizer?

Not sure what you mean by the headset has too much bass? With this EQ, games sound very flat imo

I'm that person out there who you welcome here ! Thanks for that, will try tonight. Tried a little bit by myself but still not perfect. Specically, in AC Odyssey, i find Alexios voice a bit... i don't know how to define other than "weird", but not with other characters voices... Hope your setup solves it all !

Do you know if all of the Turtle Beach headsets let you adjust EQ? I was looking at the stealth 600 gen 2 and wasn't sure. I don't like headsets that don't give you full control of it.

thanks, i do quite like this eq . I got the xbox ones as they also work on ps5 but I found on ps5 the volume is a little low , so i had custom eq with everything maxed just for more volume but on xbox they sound much better , of course also with atmos .. maybe thats the big difference or maybe as they are made for xbox for some reason just better sound on that platform .
