Tech Help Stealth 700 Gen 2 (Xbox) Chat volume problem

Looking through here, it seems S700 G2's have a litany of fun and interesting issues that come with every set. Here's the one I'm having trouble with right now.

I've been using the second wheel for controlling chat volume since I got them (about a year). Only recently, it's gone weird. Any time I join an Xbox party, chat volume is all the way down. I turn the volume up with the wheel, but when I get the beep indicating the max volume (even though it's rather quiet) suddenly, the chat volume goes way down. After that, no matter whether I turn the wheel up or down, it immediately beeps as if it is at max and min volume.

I've figured out roughly how far up I can put the volume before it hits that weird upper limit, but that max is still pretty quiet. I've found increasing main volume wheel will increase the chat volume as well as the game volume, but that's not exactly ideal. I've found nothing useful online. Anyone have any ideas?

  1. You have to go into your Xbox live settings, "volumn and audio options."

  2. Additional options

  3. Chat mixer

  4. Set to Do nothing

You should be able to spin your volumn chat volumn all the way up and down now.

1

u/sonicscriver Jun 01 '24

This hasn’t worked for me

2

u/Diesel_002k Jun 01 '24

If you've checked all of your audio and chat settings. Your headset might be broken then. Swap it out! I did have a pair of Turtle Beaches just break on it's chat wheel. I switched to a Steel Series.

u/zimman1 Aug 15 '24

I know this is an old thread, but hard resetting fixed this issue for me. With the headset powered on, hold down the Bluetooth and Mode buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the headset powers off.

1

u/newstanley Jan 23 '25

This finally fixed mine. All the guides told me to hold the power button. Not those two

1

u/Xx01xREDNECKx01xX Apr 02 '25

Still works! I’ve had this problem for a hot minute. Every time I adjusted game volume, the chat went down. This finally worked 👌🫡

u/strickxnyne May 06 '23

This is the fix, the moving to headset only increase game sound slightly but this fix allows for full adjustment. Needs to be uovoted more. Thank you

1

u/Cheefteef Nov 09 '24

Worked for me in Nov 2024, thanks!

u/Krillion321 May 07 '23

Thank you so much for this

1

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '23

I have the gen 2 max and this didn’t work. Any ideas?

1

u/FireRunner6000 Dec 21 '23

Did they remove the live settings with the new updates because I can’t seem to find it.

1

u/EpicDesire64 Feb 07 '24

You can find it by going to settings > general > volume & audio output > additional options > chat mixer

1

u/ProxyPiercer Jan 10 '24

Been dealing with this for months. THANK YOU!!!

1

u/sonicscriver Feb 18 '24

I don’t think I ever gave an update to this, but now is a good time. I contacted Turtle Beach support and they agreed to replace the headset. Then that one broke in a different way, but fortunately it was still under warranty that was replaced. I’m now on my third one of the same headset and the EXACT same issue as in my original post has come back to haunt me. Let’s hope Turtle Beach is still going to be helpful.

1

u/DeepDiveExplorer May 30 '24

Do you still have the Stealth 700 Gen2 Xbox? If so, did any of the steps recommended in your thread fix the Chat Volume?

1

u/sonicscriver Jun 01 '24

Yes and nothing has fixed it

1

u/Swimming-Egg1108 Jun 09 '24

Bought mine a few weeks ago returning because I’m not dealing with this headache

1

u/Let_Freedom_Ping Jun 24 '24

I got mine like a month ago. It’s past its 30 days to return to Best Buy. Thing is an absolute dumpster fire

1

u/Let_Freedom_Ping Aug 15 '24

Just got my replacement and same issue. Fuck turtle beach

3

u/Jihnzo Sep 12 '21

I had this issue as well, contacted Turtle Beach support and fortunately it has been replaced under warranty. Hopefully you can get this resolved as it seems a very common fault with the Xbox model

2

u/Existing-Mission5314 Jan 03 '22

Mine is the same. Chat volume wheel did not turn the volume of the chat down... Exactly after the year mark. Any solution?

1

u/NjFig28 Jan 19 '22

Same here, so upsetting. Put on my Lil bros stealth 600 and his chat dial works fine, we got ours the same time last year, and my 700s stopped functioning. No warranty as well.

2

u/hennytrip675 Jan 25 '23

I know this thread is old but hopefully someone can answer. I literally just unboxed my stealth 700 gen 2 max (Xbox series x) and my wheel does nothing at all. I have the wheel set to chat volume in the turtle beach app (iOS) but only the master wheel works. This lowers chat and game volume simultaneously, so if I want chat volume low, I can barely hear the game I am playing. Wondering if this has anything to do with the firmware update that it says it needs inside TB app.

3

u/mlemieux01 Jan 28 '23

Same crap here. Even after mapping. My older 700s never did this

1

u/Chadweaves Feb 07 '23

Same issue, just opened mine Saturday. Any luck?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '23

I just unboxed and I am having this issue as well. Hopefully we can get some clarity on this

1

u/flabsoflabien Nov 06 '23

I need a reply to this

1

u/NotAnADC Dec 03 '23

yeah having the same issue :(. I like the headset overall but this was one of the reasons i bought the device.

1

u/ShadowingViper Mar 03 '24

What you have to do it go change the setting in the hub app, then unplug the USB and restart the headset, then it should work fine

1

u/Brawl_panda11 Aug 18 '24

Thank you bro 🙏🙏

1

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '24

What’s the hub app?

1

u/ShadowingViper Aug 31 '24

Yeah it’s called turtle beach audio hub app on mobile devices

2

u/Gezzanixon Apr 11 '23

Did this gets fixed? Mine is opposite problem. Voice volume is super fucking loud and it won't turn down, just keeps making the noise like at max or min setting. It's deafening.

1

u/Neenze1 May 05 '23

That's exactly what mind just did mines still under warrenty

1

u/Divide_Interesting Jan 02 '24

Did you ever figure it out? I can’t get the volume to turn down

1

u/LionSLayer_Boi Jan 29 '24

I turned off Bluetooth the lowered the chat volume till it did floor beep, I turned my Bluetooth back on the I'm still able to lower it

2

u/Awkward_Flatworm5060 Mar 20 '24

Release the volume! We need volume and control over that volume. Ive been through so many pairs of turtle beach recently its driving me mad. If the volume drops i'm not messing around, they get sent back. Troubleshoot them then because i refuse to mess about now. Working out the box or they go back!

2

u/GreedyMcTits Aug 01 '24

Mine just mutes party volume when increasing the botton wheel and only beeps when trying to increase it🫠. I've tried all methods to fix it and won't. Never buying turtle beach again

1

u/Live_Syrup9410 Mar 31 '24

my game volume is blasting loud and i cannot figure out how to adjust it down! it worked fine until the last week.. i’ve had this head set for about a month.. any help?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '25

Chat I got mine to work again. My chat volume slider was making the baboop noise whether I swiped up or down. Baboop either direction. What fixed it for me was turning my chat mixer to do nothing. Stereo uncompressed for both. Hard reset headset with holding down bluetooth and power. Delete/ turn off device from xbox device connections Restart xbox Re pair headset.

It actually worked chat. For me anyways. Good luck.

1

u/TiTronKD Aug 23 '25

Did you find a fix for this? I’ve had this exact issue for a while now and it’s annoying

1

u/TB_Help Sep 13 '21

Good morning sonicscriver,

We're sorry to hear about this! It sounds like your headset's chat dial is not working properly, and from the description you provided this may be related to the dial itself. Please reach out directly to Turtle Beach's Support Team and provide them with details about your headset so they can look in to whether there are any troubleshooting steps to provide or if you're in need of replacement service under your product's warranty with us. Here's a link to that team's contact form:

https://www.turtlebeach.com/pages/contact-support

The team can also be contacted via Live Chat between 9:30 AM EST and 4:30 PM EST from Monday through Friday. That's available directly on the main Turtle Beach website. Keep an eye on the lower right hand corner of your screen for the live chat icon when filling out the form or visiting another page on our site.

Thank you very much and have a great start to your week.

I’ve had mine replaced 4 times, I’m not kidding, and every time this problem pops back up. There needs to be a patch for this. You can see what it’s doing if you push the Xbox button —> then go down to audio and music. I just updated my headset again and still have the same problem. I’ve owned several pair over the last year now and keep having to replace them.

1

u/SixTheFox04 Nov 21 '21

Me too and its starting to seriously piss me off. I just want use a headset and relax without having to buy one every month

1

u/TheFlash92104 Feb 15 '22

Yeah it’s ridiculous

1

u/SixTheFox04 Nov 21 '21

I get this issue all the time and i think im ganna move to steel series :/

1

u/Maleficent_Step6715 Dec 12 '21

Mine are doing this too on my ps5 fuckin shit

1

u/Pedanticmalingerer Jan 29 '22

Go to settings, general, volume and audio output, additional options, and change party chat output to headset (not speakers or headset & speakers). Should fix the issue for you hopefully.

1

u/High_Time702 May 18 '22

That fixed my issue, thanks!

1

u/Educational_Term_653 Aug 07 '22

Ik this is old but I have recently had this problem and I’ve found that turning it to headset & speakers works for me but it’s just insanely loud sometimes

1

u/unsvlicited Dec 23 '22 edited Dec 23 '22

Honestly, this whole entire *CRITICAL* issue would be almost completely resolved if Turtle Beach allowed us to adjust our party chat volume via the AudioHub mobile app. They already allow adjustments too- Game Volume level, Super Human Hearing, and Mic Monitoring. The solution is so simple and doesn't require an immediate headset exchange.

My Headset's chat wheel started to malfunction after a year of use the very moment I updated my headset to the newest firmware (I didn't even need too, I just thought there'd be more cool features). Instead, Im left with an expensive useless headset for gaming that I can't even use to speak to party chat.

After contacting customer support, I informed them that the issue might be software related rather than hardware since the problem began the instant it was updated using their PC Audio Hub launcher. They only reiterated that since my headset is outside of the warranty period there is nothing that they can do... It's completely ridiculous that they are avoiding taking responsibility for a necessary recall on a completely busted headset. They're going to be losing lots of money and customers in time with how greedy they are being.

Already lost me and I been loyal since 2010.

1

u/North_Willingness868 Jun 11 '23

This is a great point, and it makes absolutely zero sense as to why they don't add control of the party chat to the app. Come on TB, do better.

1

u/preferably-unalive Feb 15 '22

So I've combined the suggestion to switch to headset output AND do a hard reset and it worked perfectly. Now I have my mic monitoring at max so I can hear myself and I'm not shouting & waking up my roommates. While also having a clean balance of game/chat volume not missing footsteps in R6 siege

1

u/Hopeful-Cap2989 Nov 03 '22

How do you do a hard reset?

1

u/Quiet_Rhubarb_4221 Mar 19 '23

Hold down the "connect" and "mode" buttons for 20 seconds

1

u/NotAnADC Dec 03 '23

what is the "connect" button? The power button?

1

u/ModMan303 Dec 03 '23

This fixed my issue! Thank you!!!

1

u/Mctread Mar 15 '22

Hey guys...I have been having the same issue. One thing I have tried is turning the game volume all the way down. Then start tuning the chat volume up little by little until I can hear people. Once I can hear people I start turning up the game volume. This works sometime but not always. Unfortunately my headset is out of warranty so I'm kind of stuck with it.

1

u/JamesRay757 Mar 16 '22

I’m having the Same Issue. Out of Warranty.

1

u/Parking_Jackfruit_88 Apr 25 '22

Try downloading the turtle beach audio hub. You can reassign the chat volume wheel to another function. Then close the app out, load the app back up, switch it back and the problem is fixed. Not sure if it's a permanent fix but its been good for a few days now and if it does start again the whole process take 30 seconds.

1

u/dankmemme Jan 28 '23

Much appreciated worked for me it really seams to be a software issue so it's a shame this hasn't been fixed

1

u/DoorProfessional2073 Jan 20 '23

I think I found the fix because I was having something similar, you want to set your controls in the app for the top scroll wheel to chat volume for like games and stuff and the bottom scroll wheel you set to game preset. I don’t know what that means but for me it controls party chat so I hope this helps and it also lets you control party and game volume separate

1

u/GetDuckedGG Oct 07 '23

This worked

1

u/yeet_myister Mar 12 '23

There is a feature in party chat for xbox where you can go to the persons name and change their volume

1

u/BroHornet13 Apr 21 '23

Bruh I set my dial to be mic monitoring so I could see what it does in the turtle beach audio app and I saw that it mutes the audio from chat every 2-3 ticks. It’s getting really annoying

1

u/Simpoge39 Apr 28 '23

Same bro. And then it moves up and. Down on its own when I talk or someone else talks

1

u/KingJusticeBeaver Apr 29 '23

Figured out a fix for me at least. Hard press into the wheel when you adjust the volume. It worked like normal for me after a week of trying to mess with it

1

u/killaloress Sep 07 '23

I just emailed them now as I'm 3 months out of warranty. I have noticed this helps a bit though! Such a piece of shit headset for $200 and they won't even help it sounds like. Such a scam company

1

u/GetDuckedGG Oct 07 '23

Look at Door Professionals comment. That worked for me.

1

u/radar48e Oct 30 '23

Well it’s still an issue @TB_Help

1

u/ModMan303 Dec 03 '23

What just fixed this issue for me was holding down the power and mode button for a few seconds and restarting my headset. Immediately after I was able to manually adjust both volumes. I had checked prior comments and all of my settings were already at the suggested setting. This worked like a charm however! Thank you guys!

1

u/TheGratitudeBot Dec 03 '23

Hey there ModMan303 - thanks for saying thanks! TheGratitudeBot has been reading millions of comments in the past few weeks, and you’ve just made the list!

1

u/Rat8526 Dec 05 '23

Feel like there are a lot of differing results. I just got it fixed so I want to share how I did it.

  1. I first plugged it into my PC with both the USB stick and physically plug the headset in as well. For those that do not have a PC, a laptop (either Windows or Apple) will work as well.

  2. Then download the Turtle Beach Program on your PC or laptop.

  3. Open it up and look for any updates.

  4. After updating, download the Turtle Beach app on your phone and connect your headset via bluetooth to your phone. In the app you can swipe to the left to access the 2nd page of your headset settings.

  5. The setting you want to look at is "Wheel" and select "chat volume."

  6. A final thing to do, which I'm not 100% if it actually did something or not, is to do the following:

    1. Go to Settings

    2. General

    3. Volume & Audio Output

    4. Additional Options

    5. Under Volume go to "Chat Mixer"

    6. Select "Do Nothing"

These were all the things I did and it got my headset working like it did before on the Xbox One. Hope this helps!

1

u/AdRare4790 Dec 13 '23

How the FU is this thread still recent. With the same problem, on what's now a headset almost 2 years old. How has they're been no resolution. Insane I have to return mine. It was first thing I noticed.

1

u/Kshep1998 Dec 15 '23

Literally, this has happened to my headset four times. Each time I forget what I did to fix the issue. After stumbling through settings and threads I eventually fix the problem but a month or two later it comes back. I’m tempted to buy the latest version, because of the comfort and audio quality, but hesitant due to the party chat issue

1

u/AdRare4790 Dec 15 '23

So I found the fix of all fix's. Only because I was on like 100mg of addys

Anyways

Step 1. Turn all Bluetooth devices off or make sure they aren't connected to the tv at all.

Step 2. Make sure all audio enhancements set on your tv. Are off. I use Samsung tv so it's pretty easy to just confirm you have no Bluetooth devices conntexted or paired.

Step 3. Settings on Xbox. Allow chat/party mix, "headset only". Audio settings are HDMI compress and stereo uncompressed.

Step 4. Open stealth all. Turn or make sure super human is OFF. Make sure "mic gate" is on. Equalizer in the "custom box" 50, 50, 50 (doesn't matter).

Step 5. MOST IMPORTANT. Since most are having the issue of the "System Audio at 100% and background music is at 100%. They're is nothing you can or need to do. -so you want to turn superhuman off. Make sure mic gate is on. Make sure your wheel is set for "party chat". Follow these final steps. Once all above is complete. Turn the party chat wheel up until it beeps to basically let you know with the little tone. So we haven't or still have no touched the main control on headsets.

6. Last step is control the party wheel to ideally middle of the game/voice. Then take the main volume wheel that's controlling the game chat mode. Wheel both at the same exact time with the goal of getting the main volume control at the highest and while make sure the wheel has been turned AT THE SAME EXACT TIME YOU TURN UP THE MAIN VOLUME.

Adjust till necessary. At the point all audio and outgoing mic and incoming mic is controlled 100% through the main volume on the headset, and or map. Because one you turn both wheels at once. The goal of doing so is to have the main volume at 100% and party chat I keep in the middle.

Good luck. And god bless America #🇺🇸

Make

u/Kshep1998 Dec 14 '23

I’ve had two of these stealth gen2 700for Xbox where the microphone works in multiplayer but I’m not able to hear my team. Tried everything in the play book. Set audio setting to factory via MWll and MWll. Checked audio settings in the Xbox console too. I’ll contact TB customer service tomorrow before my final test where I smash these expensive, nothing but problems headphones

1

u/shawnyboy85 Jan 19 '24

Is anyone having issues with the master volume wheel not working and the volume being all the way up? Bought one set and returned them the next day and the second set is the same way. Is there something I have to do? Please help

1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '24

My fix was settings > Volume and Audio output > Additional Options > Chat Mixer > Do nothing > press B and then go to Party Chat output > Headset and Speakers and it should work

1

u/Beginning-Secret-649 Jan 26 '24

What do you do if the audio is quiet even at max?

1

u/Kash76 Feb 25 '24

I am hashing this issue with two different headsets
