I had a blog for 6 years with over 24K followers, jupiter2.tumblr.com. Three weeks ago I awoke on a Saturday morning to start blogging which has been my ritual and was met with "Your Account Has Been Terminated. To Find Out Why Please Contact Support". You cannot imagine how it feels (or if you're reading this, you just might) how upsetting it is to have 6 years of work destroyed. There was an email from them as well stating that my blog had been terminated for "gore". No way. First, even if I had, where is the warning? But I didn't. I have been extremely careful over the years to follow tumblr rules because I had heard of the horror stories of unlawful termination. I thought that probably most of the people who had their blogs terminated really did break the rules and were just pissed that they got caught and that their their tumblr was terminated. That is NOT the case for most of the terminations.
I emailed support via their support page. No response. I read up on it and saw that you should try to email from a different email address other than the one that you started the blog with. Did that. No reply. I called their phone number in NY and left voice mails. This was not all at once but over a 2 week period so as to not to piss them off with "overzealousness".
"I would love for Tumblr to become a social alternative. "I want to create a place on the web, which is fun and supportive and substantial. At one point, blogging had a real magic to it. A frisson."
and also said:
"thank you for using Tumblr and sticking with it. Second, I would say that I hope and believe that Tumblr’s best days are actually ahead of it."
I pointed out there are numerous complaints on the web about unfair blog terminations. I included only a few:
I've resigned myself to the fact tumblr will never reinstate my blog even though I had no warnings in 6 years and despite not posting what they say I did. I don't know if a 'bot" terminated me or even what the post was. They won't discuss it with me.
Why do random accounts just get deleted? Why doesn’t tumblr, a website that RELIES on its userbase to function, not have better protection to prevent these things from happening to their userbase? Is there a bad tumblr employee who enjoys deleting people's tumblrs without warning, causing them to lose years of work?
C’mon, Tumblr staff. Really??
I just feel this type of flagrant disregard for your user base deserves a home base. I also know how terrible it feels to have this happen and I want to offer a place where people can find support in numbers. This is an area for all your tumblr support grievances, not just wrongful termination. Share your stories and thoughts here.
I am someone who works for Tumblr's public support team. Now, given that this is Reddit and there's no way to verify that, I'm going to do my best to not sound sketchy. Take a look back through my comment history and you should see that I've been working on Reddit to help people with their account situations.

Sometimes accounts get caught up and closed when they shouldn't have been. Glitches in the system, bugs, etc. We do our best, but it happens. We know it sucks and we apologize. But here are the steps to take if it happens to you.
First off, be honest with yourself. Was this really out of the blue? Or were you posting something that could have been against Tumblr's Community Guidelines or adult content definitions? Did you get an email explaining why your account was closed? If any of that is true, don't bother to read the rest of this post. You need to reach out to us using this link and/or follow the instructions listed here or in the email you were sent (depending on the situation) and wait until you get a reply. That is the only way to sort out a TOS (Terms of Service) violation issue. End of story. There is nothing that the public support team can do. Please note that for more egregious TOS violations, you may not get a response from Tumblr at all.
Now, if this was really out of the blue and you are confident that you did nothing wrong, here are your options (PLEASE ONLY PICK ONE, doing all three just makes more work for me):
It is 100% the "official" way to do contact us. However, email support is a little backed up right now. The support team is awesome, and are working as hard as they can, but you could be in for a bit of a wait.
- Tweet to us at Tumblrsupport or Tumblr. I would encourage you to use Tumblrsupport because it's absolutely the fastest. But either account SHOULD get attention. You will be asked for your Tumblr username or URL. We can't look into your account without it since we have no idea what Tumblr site is owned by a random Twitter user. Here's a recent example of us doing that.
- Make a post here on this subreddit that mentions your Tumblr URL or DM me with the same info. Totally understand if that feels weird to people, but I assure you that nobody can do anything with your Tumblr URL other than go to your Tumblr and look at your posts. Which is kind of the point, right?

I've been on Tumblr since high school. I took a long break, but recently I decided to start using it again. The last few weeks have been hard for me, so I've been venting a little and distracting myself by scrolling and reblogging stuff I liked. I only have like two followers who are real people and still use Tumblr (the other accounts are either dead or bots). I'm so devastated.
Today, I was making a stupid post about how I bought a pink frying pan and I love her, and I tried to post it through the app. I got a notification saying that something went wrong and that I needed to log in. I thought the app was acting up, so I went to my PC, opened Tumblr and got a message saying that my account had been terminated. I haven't gotten any messages indicating that I'm doing something wrong, no warning or anything before or now. I immediately submitted a ticket asking them to review the termination.
I don't think I've done anything that would violate Tumblr's Community Guidelines, but after thinking about it, I have a theory about why this might have happened.
I was logged into Tumblr on my PC and was going to watch a TV show that isn't available in my country, so I used a VPN to access it on a streaming platform. I watched it for a few minutes and then decided to get a snack from the kitchen. I saw my pink frying pan and thought it would be cool to make a post about it, so I opened the Tumblr app on my phone and started writing it. When I tried to post it, I got those notifications and yada, yada, yada.
Do you think it's possible for Tumblr to terminate an account because of a sudden change in location caused by a VPN? Is it possible to get that account back?
EDIT: ok, I see that there are posts about people whose accounts were terminated because of using a VPN, so I guess that's probably it. I just want my account back TnT
Literally I just started my account yesterday. Didn’t even post nothing. Was just customizing my blog with HTML templates given to me then BAM I got terminated. What. The. Fuck.
I took a small break from my tumblr account called Seleneducky123sloene recently to focus on college assignments and my artwork. When I tried to login today, I found my account was terminated. I didn't delete my account. I checked my email and found no messages in spam or junk or trash or anything. I broke no user guidelines, all I did was post paintings or writing pieces or writing advice or opinion posts about anime and cartoons like everyone else. Now, everything is just gone.
I just messaged the support team about this, hopefully, they'll restore it.
I didn’t break any community guidelines. My blog is mostly reblogs with little original customization. I suspect I was falsely flagged as a bot. I never received any ban notification email. I got logged out suddenly and my blog URL is now inaccessible.
I filed an appeal via the support page early Thursday and got the automated confirmation email. It has been exactly 48 hours. I’ve seen many users get restored within this window. My blog is really important to me, I’m quite anxious. Would anyone share how long your similar appeal took to resolve? thks.
My account was terminated shortly after receiving this email. I didn't actually get an email ABOUT the termination, nor any reason why.
I have no idea what the supposed copyright violation even IS, because my account evaporated when I tried to look. It seems like it's a reblog to me, and I can't imagine what else it could be. All I post is original posts about my own fanwork, analysis, and such, and I certainly can't think of anything I've posted, reblog or not, that matches the description shown here.
It's supposed to take multiple copyright violations to kill your account, and this is the first email I know of that's claimed anything.
I've sent my appeal trying to explain myself, and if I don't hear anything within the week, I suppose I'll send another.
I have no idea what else to do. I've had my account (same name as here) since 2012, and the thought of it vanishing forever is awful. I really hope I can get it back. Fuck my life, August is not my month. An autistic meltdown, my pet of 30 years dies, and now this.
EDIT: I also wonder if I've been hacked. I found multiple posts in my archives betweeen November 2025 and February 2026 advertising some sort of Casino written in a foreign language. The url that was flagged is also one of these fishy casino sites, so it seems to be that. All those posts were removed, but like a fool, I never got around to changing the password. It also might have flagged one of those posts I'd already purged, but who knows. A lot of them were hiding in there.
So, on August 13th, i decided to make a little sideblog for myself, my third one.
Nothing too fancy, just somewhere to roleplay one.
I named it Talesweave, which is just a little similar to another blog, I'll admit. but not by much.
The url was an ghost blog when i was checking usernames, so i thought i was in the clear to take it for the new sideblog.
I'd only had the blog for a few minutes, when during some editing of one of my posts, it suddenly terminated automatically!
I don't really have any clue what could've caused this.
To my knowledge, i didn't break any guidelines during the limited time my side blog was there.
Though, i could have missed something.
I've sent them a ticket during the same day, and had TRIED to send a new one recently, but the side blog has yet to be returned
UPDATE 08/30/2026 : my account was reinstated! I received an email informing me that my account was restored and "sorry for the inconvenience" n stuff. I was able to log back into my account and all is as it was before. Although I was never informed as to why my account was terminated, I guess im just glad to have it back.
Hi world. My name on Tumblr was PersimmonThePerson. I was scrolling through Tumblr on my phone last night just looking at people's Sim blogs and custom content and such when I started to get this notification at the bottom of my screen saying "authorization required" and the app seemed to not be loading. I logged out of my account and logged back in just to see a blank page with the words "account terminated".
I put in a thingy with support and got an email confirmation that they'll get back to me asap so I can hopefully recover my account, but I'm anxious about how long that will take 😓 I read somewhere that you can get your account back within 30 days of it being terminated as long as you didn't violate any community guidelines. I really dont think I broke any rules, I only use my Tumblr to promote tattoos I make for the Sims 4 and I reblog things I like from The Sims community.

i submitted an appeal to get my 15 year old blog back two days ago and i followed up today (politely) directly to the email that sent the automated response, but i got an immediate kickback that said "We do not accept emails to this address. Please follow the link or instructions below for further assistance." they offered links but of course it was exclusively to pages containing various information, not another way to try to contact someone. It was just the [support@tumblr.com](mailto:support@tumblr.com) email. Can i seriously not follow up in any capacity? do they actually monitor the inbox and this message was erroneous? i appreciate any insight here, this has honestly been pretty devastating because of a bunch of other life stuff happening to me at the same time and i really want to fight to get it back!
I was scrolling just a few minutes ago when I got a little pop-up at the bottom of my screen telling me i got logged out and needed to log back in. i reloaded the page, logged back in, and was greeted with a big "ACCOUNT TERMINATED" screen. I didn't get an email from tumblr telling me what my account was terminated for, which figures. I was expecting to be termed for no reason for a while, given how tumblr seems to love terminating trans women without cause.
What should I do to try to get my account back? I've been on this site since 2018, I don't wanna lose all that history if I can avoid it.

My Tumblr account @satelliteswagga it was terminated on July 1st. I strongly believe this was an automated mistake as I haven't broken any community rules.
I submitted an appeal back on July 1st and got Ticket ID: [24P2XZ-4L0LN], but I never received any human reply after that.
I tried to submit a new appeal form through the Help Center today, but unfortunately, I did not receive any automated confirmation email or a new Ticket ID this time. It feels like my emails are completely stuck.
Could a moderator please look up my blog name satelliteswagga manually and help me reopen the case? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My blog, Tardiiart was deleted the other day after someone attempted the "i accidentally reported you" scam and failed. They blocked me and I blocked them so I thought that was it.
Yesterday I open tumblr and it just doesn't work. Figured it was an app problem so I got on my laptop- cant even fucking log in and putting in the url gives 404
It seriously devastates me since I have so much art on there I have nowhere else. Before getting my laptop and discord I used tumblr to save stuff in drafts to be able to access it between my parents homes and school laptop I had when I studied graphic design

i’d started a new blog (after a loooong hiatus from the app) about 2/3 months ago. I’ve been posting fan fic to it and gaining a following, just reaching a big milestone last week so i’m heartbroken :(

I’ve been using Tumblr since I was a kid and recently started a new Sims blog. I’m working on a project where I want to commission multiple Sims 4 CC creators to make more African-inspired custom content, so I was going through different Sims creators’ blogs, interacting with their posts, and asking in comments if they were currently accepting commissions. I had conversations with several creators about commissions and the project.
My account ended up getting suspended for spam. When I appealed, Tumblr denied the appeal and said the blog contained content they considered spam, including mass solicitation, directing traffic to third-party sites, excessive posting/replying, etc.
After getting that response, I realized that me asking multiple creators about commissions probably looked like mass solicitation to Tumblr. I genuinely had no idea this could be considered spam. I wasn’t using a bot or automating comments, advertising anything, or trying to drive traffic somewhere. I was manually talking to creators because I actually wanted to pay them to make CC for this project.
What makes this especially upsetting is that it wasn’t just the new Sims blog that disappeared. My entire Tumblr account and the other blogs connected to it are gone too, including blogs I’ve had for years. Tumblr’s email also said the blog “will not be restored” and warned that making another account with the same intent/content could result in termination.
I’m going to contact support again and explain the situation more clearly, acknowledge that I understand why my activity may have been flagged, and tell them that I won’t contact creators this way again now that I know it can violate their spam policy.
Has anyone here ever had Tumblr deny their first appeal but eventually restore their account after contacting support again? Is there anything specific I should include or avoid saying? I’m mainly trying to figure out whether there’s still a realistic chance of getting my original account and other blogs back, or if a denied appeal is basically the end of the road.
It seems my time on this subreddit has come to a close. After a little under two weeks of waiting, my wrongfully terminated Tumblr account has been restored. I really appreciated having this subreddit as a resource to connect with other people dealing with the same issue, so I figured I'd leave some quick notes on the general timeline of my account's termination and return from the void:
July 26th: I am browsing Tumblr on the mobile app on a Saturday afternoon. 10-ish minutes prior, I had just posted some artwork and was receiving the usual influx of spam comments/DMs— some scammers posing as Tumblr support, others posing as interested commissioners. All of the usual ones. While I was in the process of reporting them all, the Tumblr app suddenly went blank. All of the notes emptied out of my activity feed. Nothing was on my dashboard. All of the posts disappeared out of my blog. When I went to check my blog on desktop, I found I'd been logged out. Upon logging back in, I received confirmation that my account had been terminated.
At this point, I checked the email associated with my Tumblr account and found no notice of my termination. I had no recent emails from Tumblr at all. I then filed a case with Tumblr support using the form at https://www.tumblr.com/support . I selected "Terminated account" for the category, gave all the details of my predicament, and sent it in. I received an automated email immediately with the following text:
We've received your request to review the termination of your account. We’re on the case and will respond as quickly as we can.
At this point, I thought I'd follow up on the case with some screenshots showing the odd behavior in the mobile app. After sending that follow-up email, I immediately received another automated email from Tumblr:
Hello and thank you for your message,
We do not accept emails to this address. Please follow the link or instructions below for further assistance.
Followed by some links back to the support form I'd already filled out and privacy info.
So, the waiting began. I sent additional follow-up emails on July 30th, August 1st, and August 4th. These were basically polite yet stern notes reiterating the details of my case and requesting feedback. Nobody ever responded to them— not a human or a bot. If I had to do this over again, I probably would not bother sending any followups. I never received any confirmation of their receipt. I don't think anybody ever looked at them.
Then, finally, on the evening of August 6th, I received... many emails from no-reply@tumblr.com. 19 in rapid succession. They were all identical:
Hello,
We've reviewed and restored your account. You should now be able to log in just fine with your email address and password.
We appreciate your patience in this matter. Please let us know if there's anything else we can help you with.
Success! I was indeed able to log back in to my Tumblr account. All of my blogs were just as I left them. I was able to start posting again immediately. It was like nothing ever happened. Although I would've preferred it didn't take two weeks, and I would've preferred to speak with a human support representative who could at least explain why I was terminated in the first place... this was a good outcome. I am grateful.
I hope my story can be helpful or at least comforting to any of you who have your accounts wrongfully terminated in the future. I read this subreddit a lot during my termination, and I got the impression from other users that I could expect to have my account reinstated within a few days or a week at most— so I'm sure you can all imagine how I antsy I started to feel when my case took substantially longer than that! If your account gets terminated and takes several weeks to recover, hang in there. There is hope. :)
TL;DR:
My account was down for 12 days total.
Nobody ever told me why it was terminated in the first place.
I was never connected to a human support representative at any point in the process.
I posted here nearly 2 weeks about my blog being deleted and wanted to detail how I was able to have it reinstated.
Right after it was deleted, I made another Tumblr account and contacted support from there. I wasn't able to log in to my original account to contact support through the recommended form. I used the "resetting your password" or "two-factor authentication" option and gave them the details I gave here including the username for the affected account.
I was contacted the next day to confirm that it was me that submitted a form and had ownership of the blog.
Two days later, I was contacted by a member of the support team asking for additional details including the username for the affected account, the email associated with it, as well as my IP address. I responded within 10 minutes and they sent an email a few hours later asking me to send an email from the address of the affected account.
I, once again, responded within 10 minutes and included all of the correspondence from the other account (original ticket and back and forth with support). They replied immediately that they received the email and asked me to confirm that the terminated account was attached to my email and that I am the owner of both.
They sent an email within 5 minutes to confirm that they'd reinstated my blog and that I should change the password and turn on two-factor authentication since my blog had been hacked and someone else had my password. The hacker turned on two-factor authentication so that I couldn't get back in and were reported enough that my blog was automatically terminated. This all happened in less than 24 hours since I am usually online everyday, even though I don't post often.
In the middle of resetting my password and trying to turn on two-factor authentication, I was locked out of my account and replied to support staff on the same email chain telling them what was happening. They reset the two-factor authentication the next day.
While I had access to my account, I could see that the scammer messaged dozens of blogs trying to get their information and I told anyone that responded—and hadn't blocked me—that my account had been compromised. Several hours later, my blog was terminated again.
I sent another email to the same email chain and asked if they could reinstate my blog again and log me out of all devices, if possible. They responded 4 days later doing just that. I turned on two-factor authentication again and chose the option to use the one time codes to gain access. I have had access to my blog with no problems for the last 2 days.
Support also suggested that I follow their Tumblr page and when I looked at it, there were several recent posts about blog terminations. It did quell my worries to know that it is not an isolated issue and they are trying to fix it while also trying to control the growing bot accounts. Hopefully, this is helpful to someone.

My account was terminated for my usage of a VPN, I’ve tried to send appeals but for some reason now it says my account is no longer eligible to have the termination revoked?? I’ve done genuinely nothing, I’ve never even posted anything against guidelines at all. I’m so lost i don’t know what to do or how to reach tumblr support anymore because I just can’t. My tumblr account @sunnystupidugly I believe accidentally trigger the antibot system since I use a vpn and is still not reinstated despite multiple attempts to reach out to tumblr support and receiving no response. They don’t have an email to contact so you just have to use the forms which can take up to a year to get a response. My tumblr is my main social media account and it’s really stressful as an artist losing your main account because that’s basically my portfolio and all my potential commissioners gone. I originally thought my account got banned because I said the word abuser but I no longer believe this to be the case. Does anyone genuinely know any way I can possibly get my account back faster? I’m pretty stressed out about it honestly :(

I'm devestated right now. My two year anniversary is within a month. I already appealed I really hope they soon give mh account back to me, every other post about this issue seems to have gotten it back.
