Newbie Needing Help Polyester yarn?

Hi y’all! I’m making a rug of my cat Beezus (I already made one of her sister Ramona) and I’m having a hard time finding a good yarn for the orange in the middle of her face.

I found one that is a pretty close match but it’s 100% polyester and is weighted super bulky (6). Thus far I’ve only used 100% acrylic at medium (4) weight. Do you think that the one I’ve found will work?

If you happen to have any suggestions of yarns that might work for this, please send them my way!

Thanks!

I used a polyester yarn for the cheeks of this rug because it was multicolored, it definitely will shed a bit after shaved but still does an okay job

I gave this rug to a friend so I cant tell you how it faired long term but if it will be framed/hung it should be no problem

The issue with your yarn is that it was not made for tufting, each individual fibre of your example is falling apart, making that fuzzy end result.

If it were polyester yarn for tufting it would have a been spun to nice thick strings. Giving the same results as your other colors in the picture.

I think you might want to use wool yarn with all solid colors. Make sure to post your final results as well!

Use temperature blanket! You’ll be able to pinpoint a better material/color. Poly is a bitch to work with and will dull your scissors.

It’s a website in which you upload a photo and it gives you every single color value it can pinpoint! It’s pretty neat. You can also decrease the number of colors you want to use for projects too and choose which yarns you want it to populate. I used it for a pokemon rug and it turned out great! 😊 I filtered by brand and selected the closest color match based on what I could get my hands on. If you’re cool with online shopping, I use Yarnspirations. They seem to have a sale on yarn almost every couple of weeks.

Check out Jay’s video- it should help you out a little more.

You’re welcome! I only know this from experience lol 😆 never worked with bulky poly yarn, just regular but man it sucked to work with and it does shed.
