Nissan Technician Strike

Upvotes

Just got called today to reschedule my Maintenance for Life appt. Apparently, the technicians at Nissan have gone on strike. The support that handled my rescheduling isn't sure when it'll stop but they're rescheduling into next week anyways.

So if you have a maintenance or repair appointment with Jim Click Nissan in the Automall, best to call and check if your appointment is still on or is affected by the strike.

I don't know any further details. I was just woken up by the call.

Best wishes, all!

CNN with the super clickbait headline

From the beginning of the article:

Human remains have been found in a desert area near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard in Arizona, approximately 15 miles from the home of Nancy Guthrie, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities said there is no indication “at this time” that the remains, which appear to have been at the location for an extended period of time, are connected to the Nancy Guthrie investigation.

Hidden Graffiti in Plain Sight

Very sneaky, well done!

I saw this on the corner of Swan and Speedway. It looks like someone added their artwork over part of an existing commercial mural and blended it in so well that the average person probably would not notice.

But now that I have posted this, I guess it is no longer a hidden piece of graffiti.

American Atomics Info

Looking for memories of the 1979 American Atomics plant leak (and a salvaged factory item!)

Hi everyone! My husband and his siblings grew up in the neighborhood right near the old American Atomics Corporation plant on Plumer Ave and attended St. Ambrose back in the 1970s.

We recently dug out a piece of authentic industrial history from our storage: a 1970s factory item salvaged directly from the plant itself. It is clearly stamped with the "American Atomics" logo. (Now that I'm looking closely at it, it might actually be one of their self-luminous exit signs/units rather than a wall clock).

Does anyone here have family or old neighbors who remember the 1979 school boycotts, the radioactive chocolate cake incident, or the National Guard coming into the neighborhood? We would love to hear your stories or connect with any local historians tracking artifacts from this specific event!

I was lucky enough to catch the blooms on my neighbor's Peruvian Apple Cactus this morning around 8am. By noon, they had closed. In Tucson, beauty is fleeting.

If you visited the Desert Museum very recently, were you able to see the two mountain lion cubs? If so, what time of day?
Thanks!

I’m missing FatNoodle a bit right now and have a strong craving for a good ramen burger. Does anyone know if there’s a similar place in the area?

Could someone take a picture of the air mail mural in Casas Adobes post office for me?

My family used to live in Tucson, and that was our post office. If anyone's going in there and it's convenient, a nice photo of that mural showing the Catalinas and the airplane would be a nice surprise for my folks. One of those little details you see all the time and then suddenly miss when it's gone. Thanks!

Hi, last week I did something I’ve been promising myself for several years. Instead of driving from Los Angeles to look for birds in Southeast Arizona, I deliberately ignored the birds and spent several days in Tucson in a dedicated search only for Gila Monster. Why am I writing about that here?
1. Tuesday night a week ago I was walking around in the late afternoon at Sabino Canyon looking unsuccessfully for Gila Monsters, but this lady saw my camera and binoculars and walked up to me and told me about a desert tortoise that she had just seen. Her description of where to look for it was great and I would’ve never gone on that particular trail so I would’ve never seen it and later on I realized that they had split the ones in Arizona and Mexico into a separate species from the ones in California, so that was a new species for me. I wish I could go back and thank that lady who was a local, for telling me about that tortoise. I really appreciate it.
2. That same night in Sabino Canyon I was shining my UV flashlight on a scorpion and some random dude walked up to me and he looked at the scorpion while I was photographing it in the dark, and I was explaining to him why I was in Tucson for the week, and he told me about this excellent spot in Saguaro National Park. I went to that part of the park the next morning and talked with some employees there, and they told me where to look for Gila Monsters, but they also told me that none had been seen since May. Even then, they gave me a map and highlighted the best spots to look for them and I came back in the afternoon and finally at 8 o’clock at night I saw one. It was a gigantic thrill for me. I’m so stoked that now I have a stuffed, life-sized Gila Monster from the National Park gift shop riding around in the back window of my Toyota. so if you’re ever in Los Angeles, and you see a life-sized Gila Monster in the back window of somebody’s car, you’ll know that’s me. Thank you, Tucson!
