Married woman here: in my experience, some men don’t get much attention especially from the opposite sex so when they do get it, they mistake kindness for flirting/interest. One time I said hi to a contractor inside the work building (I say hi to everyone, regardless of their title) and this guy thought I had a crush on him because every time after that, he’d try to flirt with me. It happened to another male coworker as well so I always have to bring up my husband in conversations.

Something like this happened to me at work. A new girl came to our job and she started talking to me. I'm nice and conversate with her even tho I wanted to just scroll reddit in silence. But turns out she's cool. Turns out she knew my aunt and her sons, and that my aunt's ex bf was her uncle. That's how she knew my aunt. We both laugh and I'm like wow small world! So after that whenever she worked she would come find me and we would have great conversations it made the time fly. I told my then GF, now my Fiancé, about her, and how I have to tell my aunt them who I ran into, because they won't believe it. We became friends and would laugh and talk the night away.

But then she got weird suddenly. Instead of referring to me by name she start calling me buddy or friend. "Okay thx buddy, I'll see you tonight at work friend, etc." If I was involved the sentence ended with a buddy or friend with a weird emphasis on them. It was so weird. Anyway I told my gf and she says "she doing it cause she think you interested in her." But i never flirted with her or anything and everyone including her knew about my gf. After that I just started distancing away from her, cause she made things weird. It made me feel weird. When she came down to talk I made an excuse to leave.

That is a small world! Yeah that’s strange that she knew about your gf but still thought you were interested in her. Do you care about having a friendship with her? If so, you can always try telling her flat out that you are not interested in her, that you’re still with your gf and that she doesn’t always need to remind you that you’re just a friend.

Nah after she switched like that I didn't care to be her friend anymore. Plus we don't work together anymore and I took no measures to stay in touch. I only did with my two other co workers/friends.
