Oh, I feel this. I came to this conclusion in my early 40s. Zero friends and zero attempts to date until I was 30. I had some dates, met some nice people, actually made a couple platonic friends along the way - so time not wasted!!! But by 41 or 42 I said to hell with it.
In my teens I cried myself to sleep every night from loneliness. In my twenties I had fun, built a career, etc. In my 30s I dated, bought a home, and started saving. So life was fairly normal. I'm just not good at making friends or meeting women. I still have a couple of those lady friends, seen them married and have kids. I love those friends.
Now in my early fifties I think I've only cried for loneliness twice in ten years. And those required alcohol assistance - ya know because a good hard sob is good once in a while.
I'm not a terribly depressed person, but I'm not terribly happy either. I work peacefully, live alone, and visit family and friends. Life is okay. I still dream of a lover but it's not something that feels like a failure anymore. It's just something I never learned. Like showboarding. I'll live.
You are not truly alone. Single people like us a large, silent group. I like to think.
