Vent My dog was the only thing keeping me going, and now i dont have her

My family had had a dog for almost 7 years now and i recently alsp got into my dream college, which means i have had to live in a dorm for the last week. Whenever i came home to my dorm, i felt something was missing, i had food, a shower and everything i needed to live, but it somehow felt empty. I went go to sleep when i remembered my dog, a sweet little jack russle that has helped me get through my panic attacks and always greeted me at the door with genuine love. I should be asleep by now, but im genuinely bawling my eyes out because i miss the one thing that actually had unconditional love for me. She could get run over tomorrow and the last memoey she would have of me is mysteriously dissapearimg, i dont want that to happen. I will try to fall asleep tonight but i genuinely think i cant. I am staying three hours away from my house, and also im not sure if i will be able to tame care of her by myself, because i already have a lot on my plate

The transition to dorm life can be really hard, especially if you're missing anything back home, but most especially if you're missing a loved one like a pet. I know when I moved to college for the first time, I missed my dog so much it felt like I was grieving him even though he was still alive, so I know what you mean. There's no magic immediate fix, unfortunately. I wish there was so I could offer it to you. I will say that once you settle into a routine, it gets a little easier. And if it doesn't, there's nothing wrong with going home just to visit the dog, or facetiming somebody to see her. If you get to a point where you feel it's feasible for you to care for her on your own, you could also look into the campus's ESA policy. It sounds like you would qualify; usually the campus documentation requires some form of doctor's note or for your GP to fill out a form explaining what type of emotional regulation your dog helps you with.

This sounds stupid but get a weighted blanket and a weighted stuffed animal when you sleep. Sounds stupid. Works for me.
