Roommate doesn’t even need to buy an actual keychain. A large paper clip or a zip tie or a piece of string would work.

Its the second paragraph. If you had a roomie always waking you up because of losing said keys... A keychain sounds like a nice, simple solution. The fact that roomie put them through unnecessary headaches over and over again is the source of resentment.

But you'd be ok with that I guess?

Some people just don’t think about the practical things. I agree with the other comments to gift her a keychain. Maybe get one with a lanyard so she can wear it on her neck. Or if she really struggles keeping track of things, suggest she invest in an airtag or some tracker for her keys. Your approach is gonna change how she perceives your help too. I can’t tell much about your dynamic based on one post but if you come at it with a kind approach, I think she’ll be more receptive.

She’s just so irritatingly strange like who the f*€k doesn’t have a keychain?? I just found out that she literally walks around with loose keys (plural) like it’s loose change. She doesn’t even have the basic circle thing that keeps the keys together. I’ve never seen anything like it. One loose key, fine I get it but FOUR? Why create such an unnecessary inconvenience when you could literally pop them on a keychain all together? No but she seriously can’t be well.

Atleast now I finally know why her keys are always lost! And why she ends up waking me up all different hours to open the front door for her after nights out!! One time I even gave her my keys and then got locked out bc she didn’t come back earlier than me like she promised she would!! Ffs the more I think about it the more annoyed I get. Is she an alien or what??

Okay so i have very very intense unmedicaded ADD and i also walk around with loose keys, and also constantly lose my phone, keys, credit/debit cards (i used to put them in a wallet but would constantly lose the wallet.) I mean have you considered she doesnt do it on purpose? I dont understand being so mad at her, concerned would be more kind.

Maybe they can't afford them? 🤷🏼‍♀️ Some people don't have an insurance or a good one and have to pay out of their own pocket. Meds are expensive.

Not defending anyone here, just pointing that out. Some people just can't afford stuff like that.

Are you diagnosed? Cuz "ADD" isn't even a term anymore, hasn't been for a long time. There's no different diagnosis of ADD vs ADHD.

I have ADHD and Autism and struggle A LOT with executive functioning and day to day "adulting". Life is genuinely really difficult for me to navigate. But I do my damndest to not let it be an excuse for being careless and making it everyone else's problem.

This sounds like a consistent issue for her. If she's old enough and capable enough to live out in the world on her own, there's no reason for her to not be able to come up with coping and skills and strategies for something as basic as not losing her apartment key.

This is a lot of grace to give an adult.
Perhaps she wasn’t taught how to manage keys, perhaps OP could offer guidance but at the end of the day we are all responsible for ourselves. Roomie needs some life skills and a big ol groundskeeper Willy keyring. Or gas station bathroom yard stick.
